Looking for cheaper car insurance rates for your GMC S-15? I really doubt anyone gets a kick out of paying for car insurance, especially when they are aware that they could lower their rates if they shopped around.
Online insurance companies like Allstate, Progressive and Geico promote their brand names with TV and radio ads and it is difficult to sift through the bull and do the work needed to find the best deal.
Which auto insurance is cheapest?
There are a lot of ways you can shop for auto insurance but there is one way that is less labor-intensive and much quicker. You could spend the better part of a day talking about coverages with agents in your area, or you could use online quotes to get the quickest rates.
Most of the larger companies belong to an insurance system that enables customers to complete one form, and at least one company can give them a price. This saves time by eliminating repetitive form submissions for every auto insurance company.

The only downside to comparing rates this way is you are unable to specify the providers you will receive quotes from. So if you want to select specific providers for rate comparison, we have a page of companies who write auto insurance in your area. View list of insurance companies.
How you compare quotes is your choice, just ensure you’re using identical quote information on every quote. If the quotes have higher or lower deductibles you can’t possibly truly determine the lowest rate. Just a small difference in insurance coverages may result in a large different in cost. It’s important to know that more quotes gives you a better chance of getting the best price.

Tailor your car insurance coverage to you
When choosing coverage for your vehicles, there is no perfect coverage plan. Every insured’s situation is different and your policy should reflect that. These are some specific questions could help you determine if your insurance needs would benefit from an agent’s advice.
- What is covered by UM/UIM coverage?
- Why am I required to buy high-risk coverage?
- Will my vehicle be repaired with OEM or aftermarket parts?
- Will I lose any money if I cancel my policy before it expires?
- Does car insurance cover theft of personal property?
- Do I have any recourse if my insurance company denies a claim?
- Should I buy only the required minimum liability coverage?
If you’re not sure about those questions then you might want to talk to a licensed insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, fill out this quick form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area.
Coverages available on your insurance policy
Knowing the specifics of your policy can be of help when determining appropriate coverage at the best deductibles and correct limits. The terms used in a policy can be ambiguous and nobody wants to actually read their policy. These are the usual coverages offered by insurance companies.
Comprehensive protection
Comprehensive insurance coverage pays for damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You first have to pay a deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive insurance covers claims such as hail damage, a broken windshield, theft, vandalism and hitting a bird. The most you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Uninsured or underinsured coverage
This protects you and your vehicle from other drivers when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered claims include hospital bills for your injuries and damage to your 1990 GMC S-15.
Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, their limits can quickly be used up. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a good idea. Frequently these coverages do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Medical expense coverage
Med pay and PIP coverage pay for expenses such as hospital visits, dental work and prosthetic devices. They can be used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. It covers all vehicle occupants in addition to any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not an option in every state and may carry a deductible
Liability coverages
This coverage can cover injuries or damage you cause to people or other property. It protects YOU from legal claims by others. It does not cover damage to your own property or vehicle.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. Your policy might show values of 25/50/25 that means you have $25,000 bodily injury coverage, a per accident bodily injury limit of $50,000, and $25,000 of coverage for damaged propery. Occasionally you may see one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which provides one coverage limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as pain and suffering, medical services, bail bonds and repair costs for stationary objects. How much liability coverage do you need? That is up to you, but consider buying as large an amount as possible.
Collision insurance
Collision coverage will pay to fix damage to your S-15 resulting from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision can pay for claims like damaging your car on a curb, hitting a parking meter, crashing into a ditch, driving through your garage door and colliding with a tree. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from older vehicles. Drivers also have the option to choose a higher deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
