There is a better way to compare insurance coverage rates and we’ll show you the best way to get price quotes for a new or used Acura and get the lowest possible price from local insurance agents and online providers.
It is always a good idea to shop coverage around once or twice a year because insurance coverage prices go up and down regularly. Do you qualify for discount auto insurance?
Auto insurance is not an enjoyable expense, but you may find discounts that you may not even be aware of. Most are applied at quote time, but a few need to be specially asked for prior to receiving the credit.
- Safety Restraint Discount – Drivers who require all occupants to buckle up can save 10% or more off the PIP or medical payment premium.
- Multi-car Discount – Drivers who insure primary and secondary vehicles with the same company qualifies for this discount.
- Discount for Passive Restraints – Vehicles with factory air bags or motorized seat belts may earn rate discounts of 20 to 30 percent.
- Home Ownership Discount – Owning a home can save a few bucks since home ownership is proof that your finances are in order.
- Defensive Driving Course – Passing a course teaching driver safety skills could save 5% or more and easily pay for the cost of the class.
- Discounts for Responsible Drivers – Drivers who avoid accidents can save as much as half off their rates on Legend insurance compared to rates paid by drivers with frequent claims.
Don’t be surprised that most discount credits are not given to all coverage premiums. Most cut individual premiums such as medical payments or collision. So even though it sounds like you could get a free auto insurance policy, nobody gets a free ride. Any amount of discount will bring down your overall bill.
A list of auto insurance companies and a selection of discounts are:
- Geico offers discounts including driver training, anti-theft, anti-lock brakes, federal employee, military active duty, multi-vehicle, and air bags.
- MetLife offers premium reductions for good student, defensive driver, multi-policy, accident-free, good driver, claim-free
- State Farm may have discounts that include defensive driving training, good student, accident-free, driver’s education, and student away at school.
- Progressive offers discounts for multi-policy, continuous coverage, multi-vehicle, homeowner, good student, and online signing.

What insurance coverages do I need?
When it comes to buying the best auto insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there is no “best” method to buy coverage. Each situation is unique.
For example, these questions may help highlight whether you would benefit from an agent’s advice.
- What exactly is covered by my policy?
- What are the financial responsibility laws in my state?
- Is my 1991 Acura Legend covered for smoke damage?
- Can I get a multi-policy discount for packaging my home and auto coverage?
- How do I insure my teen driver?
- Does my policy cover me when driving someone else’s vehicle?
- Is there coverage for injuries to my pets?
- How high should my medical payments coverage be?
- When should I drop full coverage on my 1991 Acura Legend?
- What is roadside assistance coverage?
If you’re not sure about those questions but you think they might apply to your situation, then you may want to think about talking to a licensed insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form. It’s fast, free and may give you better protection.
Big brands don’t always mean big savings
Consumers can’t get away from ads that promise big savings by companies like Allstate, Geico and Progressive. They all seem to make an identical promise about how much you will save if you just switch your policy.
How do they all save you money? It’s all in the wording.
Auto insurance companies have a certain “appetite” for the driver that will not have excessive claims. A good example of a driver they prefer might be described as over the age of 45, carries full coverage, and drives newer vehicles. A driver that fits those parameters is entitled to the best price as well as save quite a bit of money when switching.
Potential insureds who do not meet this ideal profile may be forced to pay higher rates and this results in business not being written. The ads say “people who switch” but not “everyone who gets a quote” can save as much as they claim. This is how insurance companies can make those claims.
Because every company is different, you really should do a rate comparison at every renewal. It is impossible to guess with any certainty which company will be your best fit.
Auto insurance 101
Knowing the specifics of insurance aids in choosing the right coverages and proper limits and deductibles. The coverage terms in a policy can be ambiguous and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording.
UM/UIM (Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist) coverage – Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle from other drivers when they are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered claims include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as damage to your Acura Legend.
Since a lot of drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Most of the time your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages are set the same as your liablity limits.
Liability insurance – Liability coverage provides protection from damage that occurs to other people or property. Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. As an example, you may have limits of 25/50/25 which means $25,000 bodily injury coverage, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property. Occasionally you may see one number which is a combined single limit which provides one coverage limit rather than limiting it on a per person basis.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as pain and suffering, medical expenses, emergency aid, structural damage and attorney fees. How much coverage you buy is up to you, but you should buy as large an amount as possible.
Comprehensive auto coverage – This coverage covers damage from a wide range of events other than collision. A deductible will apply and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive can pay for things such as rock chips in glass, fire damage, damage from getting keyed, hail damage and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The maximum payout your insurance company will pay is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Collision coverage – Collision insurance pays for damage to your Legend resulting from colliding with an object or car. You will need to pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision coverage protects against things such as rolling your car, crashing into a building and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from vehicles that are 8 years or older. It’s also possible to bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Medical payments and PIP coverage – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP reimburse you for short-term medical expenses for things like prosthetic devices, EMT expenses and pain medications. They can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. It covers both the driver and occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP is not available in all states and may carry a deductible

Do the work, save more money
We covered many ways to shop for 1991 Acura Legend insurance online. The key concept to understand is the more quotes you get, the better likelihood of getting the cheapest car insurance. You may be surprised to find that the most savings is with the smaller companies.
When shopping online for insurance coverage, you should never skimp on coverage in order to save money. In too many instances, someone sacrificed physical damage coverage to discover at claim time that the savings was not a smart move. The ultimate goal is to get the best coverage possible for the lowest cost.
Affordable 1991 Acura Legend insurance can be sourced from both online companies as well as from independent agents, and you need to price shop both to have the best selection. Some insurance companies don’t offer rates over the internet and most of the time these small insurance companies provide coverage only through local independent agencies.
