There are both good and bad ways to find insurance coverage online so we’re going to tell you the proper way to price shop coverage on a Toyota and locate the lowest possible price either online or from local insurance agents.
If you have a current insurance coverage policy or need a new policy, you can use this information to cut your premiums and possibly find even better coverage. This information will teach you how to effectively get price quotes and some money-saving tips. Drivers just need to understand the best way to compare price quotes online.
How much does insurance cost?
Reducing your 1991 Toyota Camry insurance rates isn’t really that difficult. The only thing you need to do is spend a few minutes to compare free car insurance quotes online from several insurance companies. This can easily be done using one of these methods.
- Probably the best way to get quotes is to use a rate comparison form (click to open form in new window). This type of form prevents you from having to do boring form submissions for each price estimate. Filling out one form gets you coverage quotes from multiple low-cost companies. It’s the fastest way to compare.
- A harder way to shop for insurance online is to take the time to go to the website for every company you want to comare to complete a price quote. For examples sake, we’ll assume you are doing a rate comparison from Auto-Owners, State Farm and Liberty Mutual. To get each rate you have to spend time on each company’s site to input your insurance information, which can get rather old. For a list of links to insurance companies in your area, click here.
It’s up to you how you get prices quotes, just ensure you’re using identical information for each price quote. If you enter different values for each quote you will not be able to decipher which rate is best.

Get affordable rates with these insurance coverage discounts
Car insurance companies don’t list every discount they offer very clearly, so the list below gives a summary of some of the more common and also the lesser-known credits available to bring down your rates.
- ABS and Traction Control Discounts – Anti-lock brake equipped vehicles can reduce accidents and therefore earn up to a 10% discount.
- Driver’s Education for Students – Require your teen driver to take driver’s ed class if it’s offered in school.
- Early Signing – A few insurance coverage companies offer discounts for switching companies prior to your current policy expiring. You could save around 10% when you buy car insurance online.
- Multiple Cars – Buying insurance for all your vehicles with one company can reduce rates for all insured vehicles.
- Theft Deterent System – Cars equipped with tracking devices and advanced anti-theft systems can help prevent theft and that can save you a little bit as well.
- Discount for Low Mileage – Low mileage vehicles can qualify you for substantially lower insurance coveragerates.
- Senior Citizen Discount – Drivers over the age of 55 can possibly qualify for a small discount on rates on Camry coverage.
Don’t be surprised that most discount credits are not given to all coverage premiums. Most only apply to the cost of specific coverages such as liability, collision or medical payments. Even though it appears you can get free auto insurance, it doesn’t quite work that way.
A few of the larger companies and some of the premium reductions they offer are shown below.
- State Farm has savings for good student, passive restraint, Steer Clear safe driver discount, multiple autos, student away at school, accident-free, and defensive driving training.
- Progressive offers premium reductions for good student, multi-vehicle, multi-policy, homeowner, continuous coverage, and online signing.
- Progressive discounts include continuous coverage, multi-vehicle, good student, homeowner, multi-policy, and online signing.
- MetLife policyholders can earn discounts including claim-free, good driver, accident-free, defensive driver, and good student.
- Farm Bureau may have discounts that include multi-policy, renewal discount, youthful driver, 55 and retired, driver training, multi-vehicle, and safe driver.
- Geico has discounts for emergency military deployment, daytime running lights, federal employee, air bags, and military active duty.

Check with every prospective company which discounts can lower your rates. Some discounts may not apply in your area. To see providers that can offer you the previously mentioned discounts, click here.
Car insurance can get complicated
When choosing the right insurance coverage, there isn’t really a one size fits all plan. Every insured’s situation is different.
For instance, these questions might point out if you might need professional guidance.
- Do I need replacement cost coverage?
- What is PIP insurance?
- I have good health insurance, so how much medical payments coverage do I need?
- Is my ex-spouse still covered by my policy?
- When should I not file a claim?
- How much can I save by bundling my policies?
If you can’t answer these questions but you know they apply to you then you might want to talk to an agent. If you don’t have a local agent, complete this form. It only takes a few minutes and can provide invaluable advice.
Auto insurance 101
Knowing the specifics of a car insurance policy aids in choosing the best coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. Car insurance terms can be difficult to understand and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording.
Collision coverage – This covers damage to your Camry from colliding with an object or car. A deductible applies then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision coverage pays for things like hitting a mailbox, colliding with another moving vehicle, scraping a guard rail, rolling your car and colliding with a tree. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. You can also bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Insurance for medical payments – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage reimburse you for immediate expenses for ambulance fees, X-ray expenses, EMT expenses, chiropractic care and hospital visits. They are often used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if you are not covered by health insurance. It covers you and your occupants and will also cover being hit by a car walking across the street. Personal Injury Protection is not available in all states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision) – Comprehensive insurance will pay to fix damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first must pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against claims such as a broken windshield, rock chips in glass and hitting a bird. The maximum amount you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance – This provides protection when the “other guys” do not carry enough liability coverage. This coverage pays for injuries to you and your family and also any damage incurred to your Toyota Camry.
Since many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is important protection for you and your family. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.
Auto liability – This provides protection from damage that occurs to other’s property or people in an accident. This insurance protects YOU against other people’s claims, and does not provide coverage for your injuries or vehicle damage.
Coverage consists of three different limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have values of 50/100/50 which means a $50,000 limit per person for injuries, a total of $100,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a total limit of $50,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Some companies may use one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which provides one coverage limit without having the split limit caps.
Liability can pay for things like repair costs for stationary objects, repair bills for other people’s vehicles and loss of income. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but buy as much as you can afford.
