Compare free car insurance rate quotes
Performing a rate comparison can be challenging if you aren’t aware of the fastest way to get free quotes. You can spend countless hours driving to insurance companies in your area, or you could save time and use the web to get prices fast.
Most of the larger companies enroll in a system that enables customers to submit their information once, and each participating company can provide price quotes for coverage. This saves time by eliminating repetitive form submissions for every car insurance company.
To compare rates using this form now click here to open in new window.
The one disadvantage to using this type of form is you are unable to specify the providers to get pricing from. If you prefer to choose individual companies to receive pricing from, we have assembled a list of companies who write car insurance in your area. Click here for list of insurance companies.
How you compare quotes is your choice, just make sure you use the exact same coverage limits with each company. If you enter different data you can’t possibly decipher which rate is best.

Discounts for cheap insurance coverage rates
Companies offering auto insurance don’t list all available discounts very well, so the following list contains both well-publicized and also the more inconspicuous credits available to lower your premiums when you buy car insurance online.
- Employee of Federal Government – Employees or retirees of the government could cut as much as 10% off on T100 insurance depending on your insurance coverage provider.
- Discount for Life Insurance – Some insurance companies give a small discount if you purchase a life insurance policy as well.
- Renewal Discounts – Some larger companies provide a discount for buying a new policy prior to your current policy expiring. You can save around 10% with this discount.
- Pay Upfront and Save – By paying your entire bill at once as opposed to paying monthly you can avoid the installment charge.
- Onboard Data Collection – Insureds who allow companies to spy on driving patterns by using a small device installed in their vehicle such as Allstate’s Drivewise and State Farm’s In-Drive system may get a rate reduction if they exhibit good driving behavior.
- Homeowners Discount – Owning a house may trigger a policy discount on insurance coverage since owning and maintaining a home is proof that your finances are in order.
- Student Driver Training – Reduce the cost of insurance for teen drivers by having them successfully complete driver’s ed class in school.
We need to note that most discounts do not apply to the entire cost. Most cut the price of certain insurance coverages like medical payments or collision. So when the math indicates you would end up receiving a 100% discount, companies don’t profit that way.
Popular insurance coverage companies and a selection of discounts can be read below.
- AAA discounts include multi-policy, good student, good driver, AAA membership discount, anti-theft, education and occupation, and pay-in-full.
- Progressive offers discounts including continuous coverage, multi-policy, online quote discount, online signing, good student, and multi-vehicle.
- State Farm may offer discounts for anti-theft, accident-free, good driver, multiple policy, good student, and Steer Clear safe driver discount.
- Esurance has discounts for online quote, anti-theft, paid-in-full, Pac-12 alumni, and DriveSense.
- Nationwide may have discounts that include multi-policy, anti-theft, accident-free, business or organization, and family plan.
Before buying, ask every insurance company what discounts are available to you. Savings may not be offered everywhere. To see a list of companies with discount rates, follow this link.
Tailor your insurance coverage coverage to you
When choosing the right insurance coverage, there really is not a single plan that fits everyone. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. Here are some questions about coverages that might point out whether your personal situation could use an agent’s help.
- Am I covered if I hit my neighbor’s mailbox?
- What is no-fault insurance?
- I don’t drive much so do I pay less?
- Who is covered when they drive my 1996 Toyota T100?
- Which is better, split liability limits or combined limits?
- Am I covered when renting a car or should I buy coverage from the car rental agency?
- What if I total my 1996 Toyota T100 and owe more than it’s worth?
- Will filing a claim cost me more?
- Do I need PIP (personal injury protection) coverage in my state?
If you can’t answer these questions then you might want to talk to an agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form or click here for a list of insurance coverage companies in your area. It’s fast, free and can help protect your family.
Insurance coverage basics
Learning about specific coverages of insurance aids in choosing which coverages you need for your vehicles. The coverage terms in a policy can be confusing and coverage can change by endorsement. These are typical coverages available from insurance companies.
Liability auto insurance – This coverage provides protection from damage or injury you incur to other people or property by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU against claims from other people. Liability doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Liability coverage has three limits: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. You might see policy limits of 25/50/25 that translate to a limit of $25,000 per injured person, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and $25,000 of coverage for damaged propery. Another option is a combined single limit or CSL which combines the three limits into one amount with no separate limits for injury or property damage.
Liability coverage protects against things such as medical services, attorney fees, loss of income, medical expenses and repair bills for other people’s vehicles. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but consider buying as much as you can afford.
UM/UIM Coverage – This coverage protects you and your vehicle from other drivers when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. It can pay for injuries to you and your family as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a good idea. Usually the UM/UIM limits are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.
Collision coverage – This coverage covers damage to your T100 resulting from a collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. You have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision coverage protects against claims like sideswiping another vehicle, colliding with a tree, sustaining damage from a pot hole and scraping a guard rail. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are 8 years or older. Drivers also have the option to increase the deductible to bring the cost down.
Comprehensive or Other Than Collision – This pays for damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive insurance covers claims like a tree branch falling on your vehicle, fire damage, damage from a tornado or hurricane, theft and hitting a deer. The maximum payout a insurance company will pay at claim time is the actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider dropping full coverage.
Medical costs insurance – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage reimburse you for expenses like dental work, hospital visits and ambulance fees. The coverages can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers you and your occupants as well as any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is not an option in every state and may carry a deductible
