Want the cheapest insurance coverage rates for your Ford Expedition? Finding more affordable insurance coverage is difficult for drivers who have little experience quoting and comparing prices online. There are so many different companies and agents to choose from that it can quickly become hard work to find better prices.
It’s a great practice to shop coverage around before your next renewal because insurance coverage prices fluctuate regularly. Even if you got the lowest price on Expedition coverage a few years ago the chances are good that you can find a lower rate today. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about insurance coverage because you’re going to learn one of the easiest ways to find better rates and still maintain coverage.
The easiest way to compare policy rates is to take advantage of the fact most larger insurance companies participate in online systems to give rate comparisons. The one thing you need to do is provide the companies a bit of rating information like if a SR-22 is required, if you lease or own, how much you drive, and how much coverage you want. Your insurance information is instantly submitted to insurance carriers in your area and you should receive rate quotes with very little delay.

Don’t miss with these discounts
Not too many consumers would say auto insurance is affordable, but you might already qualify for some discounts that may help make it more affordable. Larger premium reductions will be automatically applied at the time of quoting, but a few must be manually applied in order for you to get them.
- Safe Drivers – Insureds who avoid accidents can save as much as half off their rates on Expedition coverage than drivers with accidents.
- Discount for Home Ownership – Just owning your own home can save a few bucks since owning and maintaining a home demonstrates responsibility.
- Theft Prevention Discount – Cars equipped with anti-theft or alarm systems help deter theft so companies will give you a small discount.
- More Vehicles More Savings – Drivers who insure several vehicles on one policy could earn a price break for each car.
- Active Military Service – Being on active duty in the military could trigger a small discount.
Don’t be surprised that most discount credits are not given to the entire cost. Some only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like physical damage coverage or medical payments. Even though the math looks like you could get a free auto insurance policy, it just doesn’t work that way. But all discounts will definitely lower the cost of your policy.
Some of the insurance companies that may offer most of the discounts above include:
If you need lower rates, check with each insurance company which discounts you may be entitled to. Some credits may not apply to policyholders in your area.

Lower your insurance costs
Many different elements are considered when quoting car insurance. Some of the criteria are obvious like your driving record, but other criteria are less apparent like where you live or your vehicle rating. The best way to find cheaper insurance is to take a look at the rating factors that play a part in calculating your insurance rates. When you know what positively or negatively impacts premium levels, this enables informed choices that could help you find big savings.
- Too many claims drive up rates – Insurance companies award the lowest premiums to drivers who file claims infrequently. If you file claims often, you can expect much higher rates or policy non-renewal. Your car insurance is intended to be relied upon for major claims that would cause financial hardship.
- Save by driving cars with good safety ratings – Vehicles with good safety scores are cheaper to insure. These vehicles protect occupants better and better occupant protection translates directly to fewer claims and more competitive rates for policyholders. If your Ford scored at minimum four stars on Safercar.gov you are probably receiving a discount.
- Single drivers take more risk – Having a significant other can actually save you money on your policy. Having a spouse generally demonstrates drivers are less irresponsible and statistics prove drivers who are married file infrequent claims.
- Higher deductibles are cheaper – The deductibles are how much you are willing to pay if the claim is covered. Physical damage protection, also known as collision and other-than-collision, insures against damage to your car. Examples of some claims that would be covered are collision with another vehicle, animal collisions, and having a roll-over accident. The higher the amount the insured is willing to pay, the bigger discount you will receive on Expedition coverage.
- Combine and save – Most major insurance companies will award discounts to buyers that purchase more than one policy such as combining an auto and homeowners policy. The discount can be ten or even up to twenty percent in some cases. Even though this discount sounds good, you may still want to get quotes from other companies to help guarantee you have the best rates. There is a chance you can save money by splitting coverages up.
- Save money by eliminating add-on coverages – There are quite a few additional coverages that sound like a good idea at the time on your Expedition policy. Coverages for coverage for rental cars, high-cost glass coverage, and extra equipment coverage may not be needed and are just wasting money. They may seem good when you first buy your policy, but your money might be better spent on other coverage so remove them from your policy.
Your situation helps dictate your coverage
When choosing coverage for your vehicles, there really is not a cookie cutter policy. Each situation is unique.
These are some specific questions may help you determine if your situation will benefit from professional help.
- How do I file an SR-22 for a DUI in my state?
- Am I covered when delivering products for my home-based business?
- How high should my medical payments coverage be?
- What are the best liability limits?
- Am I covered if I wreck a rental car?
- Does my policy cover me when driving someone else’s vehicle?
- Are my friends covered when driving my 1997 Ford Expedition?
- I have a DUI can I still get coverage?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions but you know they apply to you then you might want to talk to a licensed insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, simply complete this short form.
Auto insurance coverage information
Understanding the coverages of insurance can be of help when determining the right coverages for your vehicles. The coverage terms in a policy can be difficult to understand and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording.
Medical payments coverage and PIP – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP kick in for bills such as nursing services, ambulance fees and rehabilitation expenses. They are used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. It covers all vehicle occupants as well as any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not available in all states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Comprehensive coverage – This coverage covers damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. A deductible will apply and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive can pay for claims like damage from flooding, theft, a tree branch falling on your vehicle, damage from a tornado or hurricane and a broken windshield. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider dropping full coverage.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage – This coverage provides protection when other motorists are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. It can pay for injuries to you and your family and damage to your Ford Expedition.
Since many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. So UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family. Most of the time these limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Liability insurance – Liability insurance will cover damage or injury you incur to other’s property or people in an accident. It protects YOU against claims from other people. It does not cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You commonly see policy limits of 50/100/50 that translate to a $50,000 limit per person for injuries, a limit of $100,000 in injury protection per accident, and $50,000 of coverage for damaged propery. Another option is one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which provides one coverage limit without having the split limit caps.
Liability can pay for claims like bail bonds, funeral expenses and court costs. How much liability should you purchase? That is up to you, but buy higher limits if possible.
Collision coverage – Collision coverage will pay to fix damage to your Expedition resulting from a collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision insurance covers things such as driving through your garage door, colliding with another moving vehicle and damaging your car on a curb. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. Another option is to raise the deductible to bring the cost down.

Compare but don’t skimp
Insureds leave their current company for many reasons like being labeled a high risk driver, extreme rates for teen drivers, an unsatisfactory settlement offer and poor customer service. It doesn’t matter why you want to switch finding a new insurance company can be less work than you think.
More affordable insurance is attainable both online in addition to local insurance agencies, and you should compare price quotes from both to get a complete price analysis. Some companies do not provide the ability to get a quote online and many times these small insurance companies only sell coverage through independent agents.
As you shop your coverage around, it’s not a good idea to buy less coverage just to save a little money. In many instances, an insured cut liability limits or collision coverage only to discover later that their decision to reduce coverage ended up costing them more. Your goal is to find the BEST coverage at the best cost while still protecting your assets.
