Looking for better auto insurance rates? Shoppers have a choice when shopping for affordable Volkswagen GTI insurance. You can either waste hours calling around getting price quotes or use the internet to compare rates. There are more efficient ways to shop for auto insurance and we’ll show you the proper way to get price quotes on a Volkswagen and find the cheapest rates from both online companies and local agents.
Buy car insurance online
There are a variety of methods to compare car insurance prices but there is one way that is less time-consuming than others. You could waste a few hours discussing policy coverages with insurance companies in your area, or you can stay home and use online quotes to get rates in a matter of minutes.
Most of the larger companies belong to an insurance system that enables customers to send in one quote, and every company then returns a price quote for coverage. This saves time by eliminating quotation requests for each company you want a rate for.
To fill out one form to compare multiple rates now click here to open in new window.
The only drawback to comparing rates this way is you don’t know exactly the insurers to receive prices from. If you would rather choose specific providers to receive pricing from, we have assembled a list of companies who write car insurance in your area. Click here to view list.
Whichever way you choose to compare rates, try to use equivalent coverage information for each quote you get. If your comparisons have unequal deductibles or liability limits it’s not possible to determine which company has the best rates.

You may qualify for discounts
Some insurers do not list every discount they offer in a way that’s easy to find, so we researched some of the best known and the more hidden discounts that you may qualify for.
- Federal Government Employee – Federal government employees could provide a small rate reduction for GTI coverage but check with your company.
- Theft Deterent – Vehicles that have factory alarm systems and tracking devices help deter theft so companies will give you a small discount.
- Lower Rates for Military – Having an actively deployed family member may qualify for rate reductions.
- Student Driver Training – Require your teen driver to take driver’s ed class in school.
- Renewal Discounts – A few insurance companies allow discounts for switching to them before your current expiration date. The savings is around 10%.
- Accident Forgiveness Coverage – Not really a discount, but certain companies will forgive one accident without the usual rate increase if you are claim-free prior to being involved in the accident.
- Multiple Policy Discount – If you can combine your homeowners and auto policy with one company they may give you a discount of nearly 15% which can help you find low cost auto insurance.
- Accident Free – Insureds with no claims or accidents pay much less in comparison with drivers who are more careless.
We need to note that some credits don’t apply to all coverage premiums. A few only apply to the price of certain insurance coverages like liability, collision or medical payments. So when it seems like all the discounts add up to a free policy, insurance companies aren’t that generous.
A list of companies and some of the premium reductions they offer are detailed below.
- State Farm policyholders can earn discounts including student away at school, passive restraint, Steer Clear safe driver discount, multiple policy, and multiple autos.
- Geico offers discounts for defensive driver, membership and employees, emergency military deployment, good student, anti-theft, and multi-vehicle.
- SAFECO offers discounts including bundle discounts, teen safe driver, homeowner, anti-lock brakes, and teen safety rewards.
- Farmers Insurance has savings for alternative fuel, bundle discounts, good student, distant student, and pay in full.
- AAA has discounts for good student, good driver, multi-policy, AAA membership discount, multi-car, and pay-in-full.
- USAA includes discounts for good student, loyalty savings, driver training, new vehicle, defensive driver, and multi-vehicle.
If you need affordable auto insurance quotes, ask every company which discounts can lower your rates. All car insurance discounts might not be available to policyholders in your area. To choose insurance companies who offer insurance discounts, click here to view.
There’s no such thing as the perfect car insurance policy
When choosing adequate coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is not a “perfect” insurance plan. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs.
For example, these questions might point out whether you would benefit from professional advice.
- Can I make deliveries for my home business?
- Why does it cost so much to insure a teen driver?
- I don’t drive much so do I pay less?
- Are rock chip repairs covered?
- Is my dog or cat covered if injured in an accident?
- Am I covered if hit by an uninsured driver?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions but you know they apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to an agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, complete this form. It’s fast, doesn’t cost anything and can provide invaluable advice.
What car insurance coverages do you need?
Knowing the specifics of car insurance can help you determine the best coverages and proper limits and deductibles. The terms used in a policy can be ambiguous and reading a policy is terribly boring.
Auto liability insurance
Liability coverage provides protection from damage or injury you incur to other people or property by causing an accident. It protects YOU against claims from other people, and does not provide coverage for damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
It consists of three limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. You commonly see policy limits of 25/50/25 which stand for a limit of $25,000 per injured person, $50,000 for the entire accident, and $25,000 of coverage for damaged propery.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as attorney fees, medical services, legal defense fees and bail bonds. How much liability coverage do you need? That is up to you, but you should buy as large an amount as possible.
Coverage for medical payments
Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance kick in for immediate expenses for dental work, prosthetic devices, surgery, doctor visits and X-ray expenses. They can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover both the driver and occupants as well as if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal Injury Protection is not an option in every state and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Collision protection
This coverage pays for damage to your GTI caused by collision with another car or object. You first must pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision insurance covers claims like colliding with another moving vehicle, hitting a parking meter, crashing into a building and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to increase the deductible to save money on collision insurance.
Comprehensive coverages
This coverage will pay to fix damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first must pay your deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for claims such as a broken windshield, damage from getting keyed and hitting a bird. The maximum payout a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Uninsured and underinsured coverage
Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage protects you and your vehicle when other motorists are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Since a lot of drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their limits can quickly be used up. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is very important.

Power to the consumer
Cheaper 1997 Volkswagen GTI insurance can be bought on the web in addition to many insurance agents, and you need to comparison shop both in order to have the best chance of saving money. There are still a few companies who do not offer rates over the internet and most of the time these smaller companies work with independent insurance agents.
You just read quite a bit of information on how to lower your 1997 Volkswagen GTI insurance premium rates. The key concept to understand is the more rate quotes you have, the more likely it is that you will get a better rate. Drivers may discover the lowest priced auto insurance comes from a small mutual company.
Drivers who switch companies do it for any number of reasons including poor customer service, high rates after DUI convictions, denial of a claim or even policy non-renewal. Regardless of your reason, choosing a new insurance company can be easier than you think.
