Want cheaper car insurance rates for your Mercury Sable? I really doubt anyone looks forward to paying premiums for car insurance, especially when it costs too dang much. There is such a variety of auto insurance companies to purchase coverage from, and although it’s nice to have multiple companies, it can be more challenging to find a good deal.
Low cost auto insurance prices
There are a variety of methods to compare auto insurance prices but there is one way that is less time-consuming than others. You could waste a few hours talking about coverages with insurance agencies in your area, or you could save time and use online quotes to get the quickest rates.
Many of the larger companies are enrolled in a marketplace that allows shoppers to complete one form, and every company then returns a price quote. This system prevents you from having to do quote forms to every company.

The only drawback to doing it this way is you can’t choose which insurance companies to get pricing from. So if you prefer to pick individual companies to receive pricing from, we have assembled a list of low cost auto insurance companies in your area. View list of insurance companies.
You can use whichever method you prefer to find lower rates, just be certain you are entering equivalent coverage information for every company. If you compare different liability limits it will be next to impossible to make an equal comparison.

Buy more affordable insurance with these tips
Lots of factors are part of the calculation when premium rates are determined. Some of the criteria are obvious like your driving record, although others are less obvious such as whether you are married or how financially stable you are.
The list below includes some of the items insurance companies consider when setting your rates.
- Consider raising comp and collision deductibles – Coverage for physical damage, also known as collision and other-than-collision, protects your Mercury from damage. Examples of some claims that would be covered could be a dented fender, damage from fire, and rolling your vehicle. Your deductibles are how much you are required to spend if the claim is covered. The more expense the insured is willing to pay, the lower your rates will be on Sable coverage.
- Insurance rates can be impacted by your vocation – Did you know your occupation can influence how much you pay for insurance? Careers like military personnel, architects and dentists tend to pay the highest rates due to high stress levels and lots of time spent away from family. On the other hand, careers like actors, athletes and the unemployed have lower than average premiums on Sable coverage.
- Safer the car lower the rate – Vehicles with good safety scores can get you lower premiums. Vehicles built for safety protect occupants better and any reduction in injury severity translates into savings for insurance companies and thus lower rates. If your Mercury has ratings of a minimum four stars on Safercar.gov or an “acceptable” rating on iihs.org it is probably cheaper to insure.
- Commute or pleasure use – Driving more miles in a year the more you’ll pay to insure it. The majority of insurers calculate rates determined by how the vehicle is used. Cars that have low annual miles receive better premium rates than vehicles that have high annual mileage. It’s a good idea to make sure your insurance policy reflects annual mileage, because it can save money. An improperly rated Sable can result in significantly higher rates.
More discounts mean cheaper premiums
Companies don’t always publicize every available discount in an easy-to-find place, so here is a list a few of the more common and the harder-to-find discounts that you may qualify for.
- Service Members Pay Less – Being on active deployment in the military may qualify for rate reductions.
- Air Bag Discount – Vehicles with factory air bags and/or automatic seat belt systems may earn rate discounts up to 30%.
- Theft Deterent – Anti-theft and alarm system equipped vehicles can help prevent theft and will qualify for a discount on a car insurance quote.
- Discounts for Government Workers – Active or former government employment could cut as much as 10% off on Sable coverage with select insurance companies.
- Early Switch Discount – A few insurance companies give discounts for renewing your policy prior to the expiration date on your current policy. The savings is around 10%.
- Payment Discounts – If you pay your entire premium ahead of time rather than spreading payments over time you can avoid the installment charge.
- Discounts for Multiple Vehicles – Having multiple vehicles with the same company qualifies for this discount.
- Paperless Signup – A handful of larger companies will provide an incentive for completing your application on the internet.
Don’t be shocked that most of the big mark downs will not be given to the overall cost of the policy. Most only cut individual premiums such as liability and collision coverage. Even though the math looks like all the discounts add up to a free policy, that’s just not realistic. But all discounts will lower your policy premiums.

When getting a coverage quote, ask each company what discounts are available to you. Some discounts listed above may not be available in your area. If you would like to view car insurance companies with the best discounts, click here to view.
It’s not one size fits all
When choosing the right insurance coverage for your vehicles, there really is no one size fits all plan. Every insured’s situation is different so your insurance should reflect that These are some specific questions may help you determine if your situation could use an agent’s help.
- What vehicles should carry emergency assistance coverage?
- Does my insurance cover my expensive audio equipment?
- What are the financial responsibility laws in my state?
- Should I waive the damage coverage when renting a car?
- Where can I find high-risk insurance?
- Is my teen driver covered when they drive my company car?
- Does having multiple vehicles earn me a discount?
- Is my vehicle covered by my employer’s policy when using it for work?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions but you know they apply to you then you might want to talk to a licensed insurance agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, simply complete this short form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area. It’s fast, doesn’t cost anything and you can get the answers you need.

Auto insurance 101
Understanding the coverages of auto insurance helps when choosing the right coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. Auto insurance terms can be confusing and nobody wants to actually read their policy. Listed below are the normal coverages found on most auto insurance policies.
Liability coverages
This coverage protects you from injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people by causing an accident. It protects YOU against other people’s claims, and doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have liability limits of 25/50/25 that means you have $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $50,000, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property. Alternatively, you may have one number which is a combined single limit which limits claims to one amount without having the split limit caps.
Liability coverage pays for things like repair costs for stationary objects, funeral expenses, loss of income, medical expenses and emergency aid. How much liability should you purchase? That is your choice, but you should buy higher limits if possible.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage
Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection when the “other guys” are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered losses include medical payments for you and your occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Due to the fact that many drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages should not be overlooked. Frequently these limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.
Comprehensive coverage
This pays for damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first have to pay a deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive can pay for claims such as falling objects, vandalism, rock chips in glass, a broken windshield and hitting a deer. The maximum amount you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Medical payments coverage and PIP
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage reimburse you for immediate expenses for things like prosthetic devices, rehabilitation expenses and hospital visits. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance plan or if there is no health insurance coverage. They cover not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not available in all states and may carry a deductible
Collision protection
This coverage covers damage to your Sable from colliding with an object or car. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision insurance covers things like rolling your car, crashing into a building, damaging your car on a curb, colliding with another moving vehicle and hitting a mailbox. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider dropping it from older vehicles. Another option is to increase the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Don’t throw your cash in the trash
When searching for cheaper car insurance quotes, it’s very important that you do not buy poor coverage just to save money. Too many times, an insured dropped collision coverage to discover at claim time that the savings was not a smart move. The aim is to buy the best coverage you can find at an affordable rate, but do not sacrifice coverage to save money.
In this article, we covered a lot of tips how to reduce 1998 Mercury Sable insurance rates online. The key concept to understand is the more times you quote, the more likely it is that you will get a better rate. You may even discover the most savings is with the smaller companies. These companies can often provide lower car insurance rates in certain areas than their larger competitors like Allstate or State Farm.
