Want lower insurance coverage rates? Drivers have many options when trying to find the lowest priced Mercedes-Benz CL-Class insurance. They can either waste time struggling with agents trying to get quotes or utilize the internet to make rate comparisons.
There is a better way to compare insurance coverage rates and you need to know the best way to compare rates for a new or used Mercedes-Benz and obtain the best price possible from local insurance agents and online providers.
It is always a good idea to get comparison quotes occasionally because insurance coverage rates are usually higher with each renewal. If you had the best rate for CL-Class insurance last year there may be better deals available now. There are lots of tips to save on insurance coverage online, but I’m going to show you some great ways to quit paying high insurance coverage rates.
Cheapest auto insurance quotes
There are a variety of methods to shop for auto insurance, but one way is more efficient than others. You could waste time discussing policy coverages with agents in your area, or you can stay home and use online quoting to get rates in a matter of minutes.
Many insurance companies belong to a marketplace where prospective buyers only type in their quote data once, and each company returns a competitive quote. This saves time by eliminating quotation requests to each individual auto insurance company. To access this free quoting program, click here (opens in new window).
The one disadvantage to getting quotes like this is that you can’t choose the companies you want to price. If you prefer to choose individual companies to compare rates, we have a page of the cheapest auto insurance companies in your area. Click here for list of insurance companies.
How you compare quotes is your choice, just make darn sure you compare apples-to-apples information on every quote. If you compare different deductibles you will not be able to determine which company has the best rates.

Earn discounts on auto insurance
Some providers don’t always publicize every available discount very well, so the following is a list of some of the more common in addition to some of the lesser obvious discounts that you can inquire about if you buy auto insurance online.
- Professional Memberships – Participating in qualifying clubs or civic groups can get you a small discount on your next auto insurance statement.
- Discount for Home Ownership – Being a homeowner may trigger a policy discount on auto insurance because maintaining a house means you have a higher level of financial diligence.
- Good Student Discount – Maintaining excellent grades can earn a discount of 20% or more. The discount lasts until age 25.
- Defensive Driver Discounts – Successfully completing a safe driver course could possibly earn you a 5% discount depending on where you live.
- Air Bags and Passive Restraints – Vehicles equipped with air bags or automatic seat belts can qualify for discounts of more than 20%.
- Bundle and Save – If you have multiple policies and insure them both with the same insurance company you could save at least 10 to 15 percent or more.
- Low Mileage Discounts – Keeping the miles down on your Mercedes-Benz can qualify you for slightly better auto insurancerates than normal.
- Multiple Cars – Having more than one vehicle with the same auto insurance company could earn a price break for each car.
- Discounts for Federal Employees – Having worked for a branch of the government could provide a small rate reduction for CL-Class insurance with a few auto insurance companies.
- Save with a New Car – Buying a new car model can be considerably cheaper since new vehicles have better safety ratings.
It’s important to understand that most discounts do not apply to the overall cost of the policy. A few only apply to individual premiums such as comp or med pay. Just because you may think all the discounts add up to a free policy, insurance companies wouldn’t stay in business.
Companies that may offer most of the discounts above possibly include:
If you need the cheapest auto insurance quotes, ask every insurance company which discounts can lower your rates. Some of the earlier mentioned discounts might not be offered in your area.
Tailor your car insurance coverage to you
When buying the right insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is not a cookie cutter policy. Each situation is unique.
For example, these questions may help highlight if your insurance needs would benefit from professional advice.
- What is the rate difference between pleasure use and commuting?
- What can I do if my company denied a claim?
- Why does it cost so much to insure a teen driver?
- Does my policy pay for OEM or aftermarket parts?
- Am I covered when driving someone else’s vehicle?
- Why do I only qualify for high-risk insurance?
If you’re not sure about those questions but a few of them apply then you might want to talk to an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, take a second and complete this form. It is quick, free and can help protect your family.
Smart buyers can slash their insurance costs
It’s important that you understand some of the elements that play a part in calculating the level of your policy premiums. If you have a feel for what determines base rates, this helps enable you to make changes that could help you find lower premium levels.
The list below includes some of the items used by companies to determine your prices.
- Little extras can really add up – Insurance companies have many optional add-on coverages you can purchase if you don’t pay attention. Insurance for personal injury protection, accidental death, and motor club memberships are probably not needed. The coverages may be enticing when deciding what coverages you need, but your money might be better spent on other coverage so eliminate the coverages to reduce your premium.
- Maintain auto insurance coverage – Allowing your coverage to lapse is a sure-fire way to increase your rates. And not only will insurance be more expensive, not being able to provide proof of insurance might get you a revoked license or a big fine. You may then be required to submit proof of financial responsibility or a SR-22 with your state motor vehicle department.
- Choose high safety ratings and save – Vehicles with high crash test scores tend to have better insurance rates. Highly rated vehicles have better occupant injury protection and reduced instances of injuries means your insurance company pays less and thus lower rates. If the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is rated at least four stars on Safercar.gov or an “acceptable” rating on iihs.org it may be receiving lower rates.
- Cautious drivers pay better rates – How you drive has a big impact on rates. Drivers with clean records pay less for auto insurance compared to drivers with tickets. Even a single speeding ticket or other violation can bump up the cost by as much as thirty percent. Drivers with dangerous tickets like DUI, reckless driving or excessive speeding may find that they have to to file a SR-22 with their state motor vehicle department in order to keep their license.
- Gender and auto insurance costs – Statistics show that females take fewer risks when driving. That doesn’t necessarily mean that men are WORSE drivers than women. Men and women tend to get into auto accidents at about the same rate, but males tend to have more serious accidents. Not only that, but men also have more aggressive citations such as driving while intoxicated (DWI) or driving recklessly. Young males generally have the highest accident percentage and therefore are the most expensive to insure.

Buyer beware of insurance advertising tricks
Drivers can’t ignore all the ads that promise big savings from companies such as Progressive, Allstate and Geico. They all have a common claim that people will save if you switch your policy.
But how can every company make the same claim? This is how they do it.
Insurance companies have underwriting criteria for the driver that earns them the highest profit. An example of a desirable risk might be over the age of 40, has a clean driving record, and chooses high deductibles. Any new insured that fits those parameters will get low car insurance rates and will cut their rates substantially.
People who fall short of the ideal profile may receive more expensive rates and the prospect going elsewhere. Company advertisements say “people who switch” not “everyone that quotes” save that kind of money. That’s why insurance companies can make it sound like they have such great car insurance rates.
Each company has different criteria, so drivers should do a quote comparison often. It’s just not possible to know which company will provide the lowest rates.
Car insurance coverage information
Learning about specific coverages of a car insurance policy can help you determine the right coverages for your vehicles. Car insurance terms can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring.
Coverage for medical expenses
Med pay and PIP coverage reimburse you for bills for things like dental work, surgery, doctor visits and ambulance fees. They are used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if you do not have health coverage. Coverage applies to both the driver and occupants as well as being hit by a car walking across the street. Personal injury protection coverage is not an option in every state and may carry a deductible
Liability coverage
This coverage provides protection from damages or injuries you inflict on other people or property. It protects you from claims by other people. It does not cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have values of 50/100/50 which means a $50,000 limit per person for injuries, $100,000 for the entire accident, and a limit of $50,000 paid for damaged property. Occasionally you may see a combined limit that pays claims from the same limit rather than limiting it on a per person basis.
Liability coverage protects against claims such as medical services, emergency aid and loss of income. How much liability coverage do you need? That is up to you, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as high a limit as you can afford.
Auto collision coverage
This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage from colliding with an object or car. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision insurance covers claims such as sideswiping another vehicle, crashing into a ditch, scraping a guard rail, damaging your car on a curb and hitting a mailbox. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider removing coverage from lower value vehicles. You can also raise the deductible to save money on collision insurance.
Comprehensive car insurance
Comprehensive insurance coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You need to pay your deductible first then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive insurance covers things like damage from flooding, rock chips in glass, a broken windshield, vandalism and hail damage. The maximum payout a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the ACV or actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Coverage for uninsured or underinsured drivers
This coverage protects you and your vehicle from other motorists when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. This coverage pays for medical payments for you and your occupants and also any damage incurred to your Mercedes-Benz CL-Class.
Since many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is important protection for you and your family. Usually the UM/UIM limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
More comparisons equals lower rates
When buying insurance coverage, never reduce coverage to reduce premium. In many instances, someone dropped liability limits or collision coverage only to find out that they should have had better coverage. Your focus should be to buy enough coverage at the best cost, but do not skimp to save money.
Consumers leave their current company for a variety of reasons including extreme rates for teen drivers, delays in paying claims, questionable increases in premium or even policy cancellation. It doesn’t matter what your reason, choosing a new company can be pretty painless.
Budget-friendly auto insurance can be found both online in addition to many insurance agents, and you should compare rates from both in order to have the best price selection to choose from. Some companies don’t offer price quotes online and most of the time these smaller companies only sell coverage through independent insurance agencies.
