There is a right way and a wrong way to shop for car insurance and we’ll show you the quickest way to get price quotes for your Volvo and obtain the cheapest rates.

Even if you think you had the lowest rates for S70 insurance six months ago you may be paying too much now. Forget all the misinformation about car insurance because we’re going to demonstrate the things you must know in order to get good coverage at a lower rate.
If you have a current insurance policy or need a new policy, you can use this information to find better prices and still get good coverage. The purpose of this article is to introduce you to how to get online quotes and some money-saving tips. Vehicle owners only need an understanding of the proper way to compare price quotes online.
Insurance quotes comparison
There are a lot of ways to compare insurance quotes, and some are more efficient than others. You could spend the better part of a day discussing policy coverages with insurance companies in your area, or you could save time and use the web to get pricing more quickly.
All the larger companies belong to a marketplace that enables customers to submit one quote, and each company then returns a price quote based on that information. This saves time by eliminating quote requests for each company you want a rate for. To compare rates using this form now click here to open in new window.
The one downside to using this type of system is you don’t know exactly which companies you will receive quotes from. If you prefer to choose individual companies to compare, we put together a list of insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.
How you compare quotes is your choice, just make sure you use nearly identical quote information for each price quote. If you compare unequal deductibles or liability limits it will be nearly impossible to get a fair rate comparison.

Car insurance quotes and discounts
Car insurance is neither fun to buy or cheap, but there could be available discounts that can dramatically reduce your bill. Some of these disounts will be visible when you complete an application, but less common discounts must be manually applied prior to receiving the credit.
- Braking Control Discount – Cars and trucks that have anti-lock braking systems have fewer accidents so companies give up to a 10% discount.
- Telematics Devices – Drivers who agree to allow their car insurance company to spy on driving manner by using a telematics device such as In-Drive from State Farm or Allstate’s Drivewise system might see lower rates if they have good driving habits.
- Seat Belt Usage – Drivers who require all vehicle occupants to buckle their seat belts could save 15% on medical payment and PIP coverage.
- Accident-Free Discounts – Insureds with no claims or accidents have much lower rates compared to drivers who are more careless.
- Multiple Policy Discount – If you can bundle your auto and home insurance and place coverage with the same company you could get a discount of up to 20% off your total premium.
- College Student – College-age children who are enrolled in higher education away from home and do not take a car to college can receive lower rates.
We need to note that some credits don’t apply to the entire cost. Some only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like physical damage coverage or medical payments. Despite the appearance that you would end up receiving a 100% discount, that’s just not realistic.
Larger car insurance companies and some of their more popular discounts are shown below.
- State Farm includes discounts for good driver, safe vehicle, defensive driving training, driver’s education, accident-free, and student away at school.
- Farmers Insurance offers premium reductions for early shopping, switch companies, alternative fuel, distant student, and electronic funds transfer.
- Progressive has discounts for online quote discount, multi-policy, online signing, homeowner, good student, continuous coverage, and multi-vehicle.
- Geico offers discounts including defensive driver, daytime running lights, anti-theft, anti-lock brakes, emergency military deployment, and five-year accident-free.

Situations that may require an agent’s advice
When it comes to buying adequate coverage for your vehicles, there really is no cookie cutter policy. Every situation is different.
These are some specific questions can help discover whether you may require specific advice.
- Am I insured when driving a different vehicle?
- Do I get a pro-rated refund if I cancel my policy early?
- Is business equipment covered while in my vehicle?
- Should I buy more coverage than the required minimum liability coverage?
- I have a DUI can I still get coverage?
- Should I get collision insurance on every vehicle?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions but a few of them apply then you might want to talk to a licensed agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, fill out this quick form. It’s fast, doesn’t cost anything and you can get the answers you need.
What auto insurance coverages do you need?
Having a good grasp of a auto insurance policy can help you determine which coverages you need at the best deductibles and correct limits. Policy terminology can be ambiguous and nobody wants to actually read their policy.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage – This coverage provides protection from other motorists when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. It can pay for hospital bills for your injuries as well as damage to your Volvo S70.
Since a lot of drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, their limits can quickly be used up. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is very important. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Comprehensive coverage – Comprehensive insurance will pay to fix damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first must pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive can pay for things such as fire damage, theft, falling objects and rock chips in glass. The maximum amount your auto insurance company will pay is the cash value of the vehicle, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Auto liability insurance – This coverage provides protection from damages or injuries you inflict on other people or property that is your fault. It protects YOU against other people’s claims, and does not provide coverage for damage to your own property or vehicle.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. You commonly see liability limits of 50/100/50 which stand for $50,000 bodily injury coverage, a total of $100,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a total limit of $50,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Occasionally you may see a combined limit which limits claims to one amount without having the split limit caps.
Liability coverage protects against claims such as medical expenses, bail bonds, medical services, court costs and pain and suffering. How much liability should you purchase? That is your choice, but buy higher limits if possible.
Medical payments coverage and PIP – Med pay and PIP coverage reimburse you for short-term medical expenses like nursing services, X-ray expenses, chiropractic care, hospital visits and prosthetic devices. The coverages can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if you lack health insurance entirely. Coverage applies to all vehicle occupants and will also cover if you are hit as a while walking down the street. PIP is not universally available and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Collision coverage – This pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision can pay for claims like sustaining damage from a pot hole, crashing into a building, colliding with a tree and crashing into a ditch. This coverage can be expensive, so consider removing coverage from lower value vehicles. Drivers also have the option to bump up the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
