Searching for better car insurance rates for your BMW 5 Series? Being forced to pay for high-priced car insurance premiums can dwindle your budget and force you to tighten up your finances. Doing a price comparison is an excellent way to ensure you are getting the best deal.
Many car insurance companies vie for your insurance dollar, so it can be very hard to choose a company to get the lowest rate
You should make it a habit to compare rates once or twice a year because prices are rarely the same from one policy term to another. If you had the best price for 5 Series coverage a couple years back you may be paying too much now. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about car insurance because you’re about to learn the best way to reduce your cost while improving coverage.
If you have insurance now or are shopping for new coverage, you can follow these tips to find better prices and possibly find even better coverage. Finding the best rates is not that difficult. Drivers just need to know the best way to get comparison rates on the web.
Where can I get the cheapest insurance?
There are several ways to shop for insurance, but there is one way that is less time-consuming than others. You could spend your day talking to local insurance agents in your area, or you can stay home and use online quotes to get rates in a matter of minutes.
Most of the larger companies belong to an insurance system that enables customers to only type in their quote data once, and each participating company then returns a price quote. This eliminates the need for repetitive form submissions for each company you want a rate for.

The single downside to using this type of system is buyers cannot specifically choose which carriers to get pricing from. So if you want to select specific providers to compare prices, we have assembled a list of low cost insurance companies in your area. View list of insurance companies.
Which method you use is up to you, but make sure you compare exactly the same coverage data on every price quote you get. If each company quotes different values for each quote you will not be able to make a fair comparison for your BMW 5 Series.

Tailor your car insurance coverage to you
When choosing adequate coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is not a best way to insure your cars. Each situation is unique and your policy should reflect that. For example, these questions might help in determining if you would benefit from an agent’s advice.
- What can I do if my company won’t pay a claim?
- Does my insurance cover damage caused when ticketed for reckless driving?
- Do all my vehicles need collision coverage?
- If I drive on a suspended license am I covered?
- Am I covered if I hit a deer?
- Is a fancy paint job covered?
- I have good health insurance, so how much medical payments coverage do I need?
- Am I covered by my employer’s commercial auto policy when driving my personal car for business?
- Do I need an umbrella policy?
- I don’t drive much so do I pay less?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions but one or more may apply to you, you may need to chat with a licensed insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, fill out this quick form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area. It is quick, free and you can get the answers you need.
What insurance coverages do you need?
Knowing the specifics of your insurance policy can help you determine appropriate coverage for your vehicles. Insurance terms can be impossible to understand and coverage can change by endorsement. Shown next are the usual coverages found on most insurance policies.
Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers
Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants when other motorists do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered claims include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your BMW 5 Series.
Because many people carry very low liability coverage limits, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family.
Coverage for liability
This coverage protects you from damage or injury you incur to people or other property that is your fault. It protects YOU against claims from other people, and doesn’t cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. You commonly see limits of 50/100/50 which means a limit of $50,000 per injured person, a per accident bodily injury limit of $100,000, and a limit of $50,000 paid for damaged property.
Liability coverage pays for things such as pain and suffering, court costs and emergency aid. How much coverage you buy is a decision to put some thought into, but buy as high a limit as you can afford.
Medical expense insurance
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage kick in for bills for things like surgery, pain medications and funeral costs. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance plan or if you lack health insurance entirely. Coverage applies to you and your occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not available in all states and may carry a deductible
Collision coverage
This covers damage to your 5 Series resulting from a collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. You have to pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage protects against claims like sideswiping another vehicle, crashing into a ditch and hitting a mailbox. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are older. It’s also possible to choose a higher deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Comprehensive (Other than Collision)
Comprehensive insurance coverage pays for damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive insurance covers things such as damage from flooding, hitting a deer and falling objects. The most your insurance company will pay is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
