There isn’t a single person who enjoys paying for insurance coverage, especially when they are aware that they are paying too much. Because you have many insurance providers from which to choose, it can be diffult for drivers to find the most affordable insurance coverage provider.
It’s important to get comparison quotes before your next renewal because rates change frequently. If you had the best premium rates on H1 insurance six months ago there is a good chance you can find better prices now. Block out anything you think you know about insurance coverage because you’re about to learn one of the quickest ways to save money, get proper coverage and the best rates.
Lower rates by qualifying for discounts
Not too many consumers would say insurance is affordable, but you may be missing some discounts to help offset the cost. Certain discounts will be triggered automatically at the time of quoting, but a few need to be manually applied prior to receiving the credit.
- Safe Driver Discounts – Accident-free drivers could pay up to 40% less on H1 insurance than less cautious drivers.
- Driver’s Ed – Reduce the cost of insurance for teen drivers by having them enroll and complete driver’s education if offered at their school.
- Government Employee Discount – Employees or retirees of the government may reduce rates when you quote insurance on H1 insurance with certain companies.
- Air Bags and Passive Restraints – Vehicles equipped with air bags or automatic seat belts could see savings as much as 30%.
- No Charge for an Accident – This one isn’t a discount, but companies like Liberty Mutual and Geico permit an accident without getting socked with a rate hike so long as you are claim-free for a certain period of time.
- Multi-car Discount – Purchasing coverage when you have primary and secondary vehicles on one policy may reduce the rate for each vehicle.
- Seat Belt Discounts – Forcing all vehicle occupants to buckle up before driving can save up to 15% on medical payment and PIP coverage.
- Discount for Life Insurance – Not every insurance company offers life insurance, but if they do you may earn a small discount if you purchase a life policy as well.
- Anti-lock Brake System – Anti-lock brake equipped vehicles can avoid accidents so companies give up to a 10% discount.
A quick disclaimer, some credits don’t apply to all coverage premiums. The majority will only reduce specific coverage prices like medical payments or collision. Just because it seems like you would end up receiving a 100% discount, that’s just not realistic.
Companies and a summarized list of policyholder discounts are detailed below.
- American Family has savings for TimeAway discount, accident-free, mySafetyValet, multi-vehicle, good student, and early bird.
- Nationwide has discounts for family plan, accident-free, easy pay, multi-policy, Farm Bureau membership, business or organization, and good student.
- MetLife discounts include multi-policy, defensive driver, good driver, accident-free, claim-free, good student

Buy car insurance online
Performing a rate comparison can take time and effort if you don’t know the most efficient way to do it. You can waste hours talking to insurance companies in your area, or you could save time and use the web to get rate comparisons in just a few minutes.
Many insurance companies participate in an industry program where prospective buyers enter their coverage request one time, and every company then returns a price quote based on that data. This eliminates the need for quote forms for each company.
To compare rates using this form now click here (opens in new window).
The one downside to using this type of form is you can’t choose which insurance companies you want pricing from. So if you want to choose specific providers to compare prices, we have assembled a list of the cheapest car insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.
However you get your quotes, ensure you’re using equivalent coverage data on every price quote you get. If each company quotes differing limits it’s not possible to determine the best price for your HUMMER H1.
Insurance is unique, just like you
When choosing adequate coverage for your vehicles, there is no cookie cutter policy. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s so your insurance needs to address that. These are some specific questions may help you determine if your insurance needs might need an agent’s assistance.
- Am I covered when driving someone else’s vehicle?
- What are the best liability limits?
- Will filing a claim cost me more?
- Can I make deliveries for my home business?
- Do I need special endorsements for business use of my vehicle?
- Am I covered if I wreck a rental car?
If you’re not sure about those questions, you may need to chat with an agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, simply complete this short form or click here for a list of insurance companies in your area. It only takes a few minutes and can provide invaluable advice.
Auto insurance coverage information
Having a good grasp of your insurance policy can help you determine the right coverages and the correct deductibles and limits. The terms used in a policy can be impossible to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy. Below you’ll find typical coverages found on most insurance policies.
Uninsured or underinsured coverage
Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage protects you and your vehicle from other drivers when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries and also any damage incurred to your HUMMER H1.
Since a lot of drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. So UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Usually these limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Auto collision coverage
Collision insurance covers damage to your H1 resulting from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. You first must pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision coverage protects against things such as sideswiping another vehicle, colliding with a tree, backing into a parked car, damaging your car on a curb and hitting a mailbox. This coverage can be expensive, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are 8 years or older. Drivers also have the option to choose a higher deductible to save money on collision insurance.
Comprehensive protection
This covers damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for things such as vandalism, falling objects, rock chips in glass and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The highest amount you’ll receive from a claim is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Coverage for liability
This coverage provides protection from damage or injury you incur to a person or their property by causing an accident. It protects you from legal claims by others. It does not cover damage to your own property or vehicle.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You might see liability limits of 100/300/100 that means you have a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a per accident bodily injury limit of $300,000, and a total limit of $100,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Some companies may use a combined limit that pays claims from the same limit with no separate limits for injury or property damage.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as pain and suffering, medical services, funeral expenses, repair bills for other people’s vehicles and bail bonds. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase higher limits if possible.
Medical expense coverage
Med pay and PIP coverage reimburse you for expenses like pain medications, ambulance fees and nursing services. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance program or if there is no health insurance coverage. Coverage applies to not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not available in all states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Be a smart shopper
As you restructure your insurance plan, do not skimp on coverage in order to save money. There are a lot of situations where consumers will sacrifice comprehensive coverage or liability limits only to discover later they didn’t purchase enough coverage. Your goal is to purchase a proper amount of coverage at the best cost, but don’t skip important coverages to save money.
You just learned some good ideas how to save on 2001 HUMMER H1 insurance. The key concept to understand is the more rate comparisons you have, the more likely it is that you will get a better rate. Consumers could even find that the biggest savings come from some of the smallest insurance companies. Some small companies may have significantly lower premium rates on certain market segments as compared to the big name companies such as State Farm or Progressive.
