Trying to find the cheapest insurance for a Mercedes-Benz S-Class can turn out to be an all-consuming task, but you can use our insurance buying tips to save time. There is a better way to find insurance online and you need to know the quickest way to price shop coverage for your Mercedes-Benz and get the lowest price from local insurance agents and online providers.
It’s important to price shop coverage before your next renewal because insurance prices change quite often. Just because you had the best deal on S-Class insurance last year the chances are good that you can find a lower rate quote today. There is too much inaccurate information about insurance online but you can learn some good information on how to save money.
How to compare free auto insurance quotes
Comparing auto insurance rates can be exhausting if you don’t utilize the best way to get rate quotes. You can waste a few hours (or days) talking to local insurance agents in your area, or you can utilize the web to achieve your goal.
Many of the larger companies belong to an insurance system that enables customers to enter their policy data once, and every company can provide price quotes based on that data. This eliminates the need for repetitive form submissions to every company.
To participate in this free quote system, click here to open in new window.
The one disadvantage to comparing rates this way is you are unable to specify the insurers to get pricing from. So if you want to select from a list of companies to compare prices, we have a listing of the cheapest auto insurance companies in your area. Click here to view list.
Take whichever approach you prefer, but compare apples-to-apples coverage limits and deductibles for every quote you compare. If you enter higher or lower deductibles it will be nearly impossible to determine the best price for your Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Do you qualify for discounts?
The cost of insuring your cars can be expensive, but you may qualify for discounts to reduce the price significantly. Some of these disounts will be visible at the time you complete a quote, but some discounts are required to be manually applied in order for you to get them.
- E-sign Discounts – A few larger online companies will discount your bill up to fifty bucks for buying your policy online.
- Defensive Driving Course – Passing a defensive driver course could possibly earn you a 5% discount and easily pay for the cost of the class.
- College Student – Children who are enrolled in higher education away from home and don’t have a car may qualify for this discount.
- Claim Free – Drivers with accident-free driving histories pay much less as compared to drivers who are more careless.
- Driving Data Discount – Drivers who elect to allow companies to spy on vehicle usage by using a telematic data system like In-Drive from State Farm and Progressive’s Snapshot might get better premium rates if they have good driving habits.
- Air Bags and Passive Restraints – Vehicles equipped with air bags and/or automatic seat belt systems can get savings of 20% or more.
- Auto/Life Discount – Not every insurance company offers life insurance, but if they do you may earn lower premium rates if you buy auto and life insurance together.
- Good Student Discount – A discount for being a good student may save you up to 25%. Most companies allow this discount up to age 25.
- Bundled Policy Discount – If you have multiple policies and insure them both with the same insurance company they may give you a discount of approximately 10% to 15%.
As a sidenote, some of the credits will not apply to the entire cost. Most cut specific coverage prices like medical payments or collision. If you do the math and it seems like you could get a free car insurance policy, you aren’t that lucky.
Auto insurance companies that have some of the discounts shown above include:
When getting a coverage quote, ask each company or agent which discounts they offer. Some discounts might not be available to policyholders in your area. To see insurers that offer many of these discounts, click here to view.
Don’t assume everyone needs the same auto insurance coverage
When it comes to buying the best auto insurance coverage, there is no cookie cutter policy. Everyone’s situation is a little different.
For instance, these questions might help in determining if you will benefit from professional help.
- Does my policy cover my teen driver if they drive my company car?
- Do I pay less for low miles?
- What companies insure drivers after a DUI or DWI?
- Is other people’s property covered if stolen from my vehicle?
- Does my policy cover me when driving someone else’s vehicle?
- Am I covered when renting a car or should I buy coverage from the car rental agency?
- Am I covered when using my vehicle for business?
- Why am I required to buy liability insurance?
- How does medical payments coverage work?
If you’re not sure about those questions but one or more may apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to a licensed insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, fill out this quick form. It’s fast, doesn’t cost anything and you can get the answers you need.
Coverages available on your policy
Understanding the coverages of a car insurance policy can be of help when determining the best coverages and proper limits and deductibles. The coverage terms in a policy can be difficult to understand and coverage can change by endorsement.
Collision protection
This coverage covers damage to your S-Class from colliding with an object or car. You will need to pay your deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision insurance covers claims such as sustaining damage from a pot hole, hitting a parking meter, rolling your car, crashing into a building and driving through your garage door. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so you might think about dropping it from older vehicles. Another option is to raise the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision)
This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage from a wide range of events other than collision. A deductible will apply then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against things like falling objects, rock chips in glass, theft, a tree branch falling on your vehicle and a broken windshield. The maximum amount a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the cash value of the vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance
This coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants when other motorists either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is very important.
Insurance for medical payments
Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP reimburse you for short-term medical expenses for things like ambulance fees, rehabilitation expenses, X-ray expenses and EMT expenses. The coverages can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if there is no health insurance coverage. It covers you and your occupants and will also cover getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not universally available but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Auto liability insurance
Liability insurance can cover injuries or damage you cause to people or other property by causing an accident. This coverage protects you against claims from other people, and doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You might see policy limits of 100/300/100 that means you have a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a limit of $300,000 in injury protection per accident, and $100,000 of coverage for damaged propery.
Liability insurance covers things such as bail bonds, repair costs for stationary objects, medical services and legal defense fees. How much liability should you purchase? That is a decision to put some thought into, but consider buying as much as you can afford.
