Getting budget-priced insurance online can appear to be problematic for people that are not comfortable with quoting and comparing and buying insurance online. With literally dozens of online companies available, how can people effectively compare the different rates to find the cheapest available price?
Finding affordable protection is not that difficult. Just about every vehicle owner who buys insurance will most likely be able to find better rates. But car owners can benefit by having an understanding of how big insurance companies price online insurance because it can help you find the best coverage.
How to find low cost auto insurance
Effectively comparing auto insurance prices can be challenging if you don’t understand the most efficient way. You could spend your day discussing policy coverages with insurance agencies in your area, or you could use online quotes to quickly compare rates.
All the larger companies enroll in a system that enables customers to submit one quote, and at least one company returns a competitive quote based on that data. This eliminates the need for quotation requests to every company.

The one downside to getting quotes like this is that you can’t choose which companies you want to price. If you wish to select specific insurance companies to request quotes from, we have a listing of auto insurance companies in your area. View list of insurance companies.
How you compare quotes is your choice, just ensure you are comparing apples-to-apples coverage limits and deductibles on every quote you get. If you compare different liability limits it will be next to impossible to decipher which rate is best. Even a minor difference in limits may result in a large different in cost. And when comparing auto insurance rates, know that quoting more increases your odds of finding a lower rate than you’re paying now. Not every company provides online quotes, so it’s recommended that you also compare price quotes from those companies as well.

Tailor your car insurance coverage to you
When buying adequate coverage for your vehicles, there isn’t really a single plan that fits everyone. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s.
These are some specific questions may help highlight whether or not you may require specific advice.
- Is business equipment covered while in my vehicle?
- Does my insurance cover damage caused when ticketed for reckless driving?
- How much can I save by bundling my policies?
- Can my teen driver be rated on a liability-only vehicle?
- Am I covered by my spouse’s policy after a separation?
- Should I sign the liability waiver when renting a car?
- Can I pay claims out-of-pocket if I buy high deductibles?
- Should I get collision insurance on every vehicle?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions then you might want to talk to a licensed insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, simply complete this short form.
Car insurance policy coverages for a Volvo V40
Knowing the specifics of your policy can be of help when determining the right coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. The terms used in a policy can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring.
Coverage for liability – Liability insurance provides protection from damage or injury you incur to a person or their property that is your fault. Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. Your policy might show liability limits of 25/50/25 which stand for $25,000 bodily injury coverage, a limit of $50,000 in injury protection per accident, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property. Occasionally you may see a combined limit which combines the three limits into one amount without having the split limit caps.
Liability coverage protects against things like bail bonds, medical services, legal defense fees and structural damage. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but buy as high a limit as you can afford.
Collision coverage – Collision insurance pays for damage to your V40 resulting from a collision with an object or car. You will need to pay your deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision coverage pays for things like crashing into a building, damaging your car on a curb and sideswiping another vehicle. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to raise the deductible to bring the cost down.
Comprehensive protection – Comprehensive insurance pays for damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You need to pay your deductible first then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive insurance covers claims like damage from getting keyed, a broken windshield, hail damage, fire damage and hitting a bird. The highest amount your car insurance company will pay is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Uninsured or underinsured coverage – Your UM/UIM coverage gives you protection from other drivers when they do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered losses include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as damage to your Volvo V40.
Because many people only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is a good idea. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Medical expense coverage – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP reimburse you for short-term medical expenses such as rehabilitation expenses, ambulance fees, nursing services and EMT expenses. They are used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if you are not covered by health insurance. Coverage applies to not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and also covers if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal injury protection coverage is not an option in every state and may carry a deductible
