Finding cheaper insurance quotes online can be complicated if you’re new to online price comparisons. Don’t let that stop you because comparing rates is actually very simple.
Consumers need to price shop coverage once or twice a year because prices trend upward over time. Even if you think you had the lowest rates for XLR coverage two years ago there is a good chance you can find better rate quotes now. You can find a lot of wrong information about car insurance on the web, but I’m going to show you some great ways to save money.
The purpose of this article is to tell you how to effectively get price quotes. If you currently have car insurance, you stand a good chance to be able to lower your premiums substantially using this information. Although vehicle owners must know how the larger insurance companies price insurance differently and take advantage of how the system works.
Ways to get insurance quotes
To find more affordable prices, there are a couple of ways to compare prices from many different insurance companies. The best method to compare rates involves getting comparison quotes online. This is very easy and can be done in just a few minutes using one of these methods.
Without a doubt, the easiest way to compare a lot of rates at once would be an industry-wide quote request form click here to open form in new window. This easy form prevents you from having to do multiple quote forms for each company you want a rate for. Just one form gets prices estimates from multiple companies. It’s definitely the quickest method.
A slightly less efficient method to get comparison quotes requires a trip to the website for every company you want to comare to request a price quote. For sake of this example, let’s assume you want to compare Progressive, Allstate and Farmers. You would need to take the time to go to each site and punch in your information repeatedly, and that’s why the first method is more popular. For a list of companies in your area, click here.
You can choose any of those ways to find more affodable coverage, but do your best to use the same coverage limits and deductibles on every quote you get. If you are comparing different limits and deductibles on each one you can’t possibly determine the lowest rate for your Cadillac XLR. Slightly different coverage limits may cause a big price difference. Just remember that having more price comparisons will improve the odds of getting lower pricing.

Double check you’re getting these money-saving discounts
Companies that sell car insurance don’t always advertise every possible discount very well, so the list below details some of the best known and also the more inconspicuous discounts that may be available.
- Full Payment Discount – By paying your entire bill at once rather than spreading payments over time you can actually save on your bill.

- Drivers Ed for Students – Make teen driver coverage more affordable by requiring them to enroll and complete driver’s education in school or through a local driver safety program.

Do I need special coverages?
When it comes to buying adequate coverage, there is no perfect coverage plan. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs.
For instance, these questions can help discover if you will benefit from professional help.
- Is my Cadillac XLR covered if I use it for business?
- Does my liability insurance cover pulling a trailer or camper?
- Is my nanny covered when driving my vehicle?
- Should I have combined single limit or split liability limits?
- Does my policy cover me when driving someone else’s vehicle?
- Why is insurance for a teen driver so high?
- Do I need replacement cost coverage on my 2007 Cadillac XLR?
- What is PIP insurance?
- Can I get a multi-policy discount for packaging my home and auto coverage?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions but one or more may apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to an agent. To find an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form.
Educate yourself about car insurance coverages
Learning about specific coverages of your policy aids in choosing which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. Car insurance terms can be impossible to understand and coverage can change by endorsement.
Collision coverage
This coverage pays for damage to your XLR resulting from colliding with an object or car. You have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision coverage protects against claims such as rolling your car, colliding with another moving vehicle, crashing into a ditch, crashing into a building and hitting a mailbox. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from lower value vehicles. Drivers also have the option to raise the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Comprehensive insurance
This coverage covers damage that is not covered by collision coverage. A deductible will apply then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive insurance covers things like a broken windshield, hitting a deer, vandalism and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The highest amount your car insurance company will pay is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage pay for expenses such as pain medications, funeral costs, prosthetic devices and EMT expenses. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. It covers not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants in addition to getting struck while a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is only offered in select states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Liability auto insurance
Liability insurance provides protection from damage or injury you incur to people or other property by causing an accident. This coverage protects you from claims by other people. It does not cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.
It consists of three limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. You might see values of 50/100/50 which means $50,000 bodily injury coverage, a total of $100,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and $50,000 of coverage for damaged propery. Occasionally you may see one number which is a combined single limit which limits claims to one amount rather than limiting it on a per person basis.
Liability can pay for claims such as bail bonds, structural damage, funeral expenses, loss of income and legal defense fees. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a decision to put some thought into, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase higher limits if possible.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)
This provides protection from other drivers when they do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered losses include hospital bills for your injuries and also any damage incurred to your Cadillac XLR.
Because many people only carry the minimum required liability limits, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is very important. Most of the time these coverages are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.
