Trying to find the cheapest auto insurance rates for your Isuzu Ascender? Do you get exhausted from scraping nickels together to pay your auto insurance bill each month? Your situation is no different than the majority of other people.
Multiple insurers compete for your hard-earned dollar, so it can be very hard to choose a company to find the absolute lowest cost out there.
It’s smart to take a look at other company’s rates every six months because auto insurance prices change frequently. Just because you found the lowest price on Ascender insurance at your last renewal you can probably find a better rate now. Block out anything you think you know about auto insurance because it’s time to teach you one of the easiest ways to remove unneeded coverages and save money.
Ways to get auto insurance rate quotes
There are a lot of ways you can shop for auto insurance but one way is less labor-intensive and much quicker. You could spend your day driving to insurance companies in your area, or you can utilize online quoting to accomplish the same thing much quicker.
Many insurance companies belong to an insurance system that enables customers to complete one form, and each company can give them a price. This saves time by eliminating quote forms for each company you want a rate for.
To compare rates now click here to open in new window.
The only drawback to pricing coverage this way is that consumers can’t choose which insurance companies you want to price. If you prefer to choose specific insurance companies for rate comparison, we put together a list of low cost auto insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.
How you compare quotes is your choice, just make sure you are using exactly the same coverage information on every quote you get. If you use different values for each quote it’s not possible to make a fair rate comparison. Even a minor difference in coverages may result in large price differences. Keep in mind that obtaining a wide range of quotes will increase your chances of finding better pricing. Not every company does price estimates online, so you also need to get price quotes from the smaller companies as well.

Save a ton with these eight auto insurance discounts
Companies that sell car insurance don’t necessarily list every disount available very clearly, so the following is a list of both the well known in addition to some of the lesser obvious credits available to you.
- Paperless Signup – A few companies will discount your bill up to fifty bucks for completing your application over the internet.
- Sign Early and Save – A few larger companies give discounts for renewing your policy before your current expiration date. Ten percent is about the average savings.
- Claim Free – Claim-free drivers pay much less as compared to policyholders that have many claims.
- Active Service Discounts – Being deployed in the military may lower your prices slightly.
- Multiple Cars – Purchasing coverage when you have more than one vehicle on one policy can reduce rates for all insured vehicles.
- One Accident Forgiven – This isn’t a discount exactly, but a few companies such as Geico, State Farm, and Progressive allow you one accident before hitting you with a surcharge with the catch being you have to be claim-free prior to being involved in the accident.
- Discount for Life Insurance – Not all auto insurance companies offer life insurance, but some may give you a break if you buy some life insurance too.
- Driver Safety – Taking time to complete a course that instructs on driving safety could cut 5% off your bill and easily recoup the cost of the course.
We need to note that most of the big mark downs will not be given to the overall cost of the policy. Most only apply to individual premiums such as comprehensive or collision. Just because it seems like you would end up receiving a 100% discount, you aren’t that lucky.
Popular auto insurance companies and some of the discounts are outlined below.
- Progressive policyholders can earn discounts including online quote discount, homeowner, continuous coverage, multi-policy, online signing, good student, and multi-vehicle.
- MetLife may have discounts that include accident-free, defensive driver, multi-policy, good student, claim-free, good driver
- Mercury Insurance offers discounts including accident-free, annual mileage, good student, anti-theft, age of vehicle, multi-policy, and professional/association.
- Nationwide offers premium reductions for business or organization, Farm Bureau membership, easy pay, good student, anti-theft, multi-policy, and defensive driving.
- Geico may offer discounts for emergency military deployment, seat belt use, driver training, air bags, anti-lock brakes, and multi-vehicle.
- AAA discounts include multi-car, education and occupation, good driver, good student, and pay-in-full.
When getting a coverage quote, ask every company to give you their best rates. Depending on the company, some discounts may not apply in your area. If you would like to choose from a list of providers who offer auto insurance discounts, follow this link.
Insurance coverage can get complicated
When it comes to buying coverage for your vehicles, there is no “perfect” insurance plan. Every situation is different so your insurance needs to address that. These are some specific questions might help in determining if your insurance needs would benefit from an agent’s advice.
- How can I get my company to pay me more for my totalled car?
- Why do I only qualify for high-risk insurance?
- What is UM/UIM insurance?
- How much can I save by bundling my policies?
- How can I find cheaper teen driver insurance?
- If my pet gets injured in an accident are they covered?
- Should I have combined single limit or split liability limits?
- I don’t drive much so do I pay less?
- Does my policy cover me when driving someone else’s vehicle?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions but you think they might apply to your situation, you might consider talking to a licensed agent. To find an agent in your area, simply complete this short form or you can also visit this page to select a carrier
Specifics of your auto insurance policy
Knowing the specifics of auto insurance helps when choosing appropriate coverage and proper limits and deductibles. Policy terminology can be impossible to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring. Shown next are the usual coverages found on most auto insurance policies.
Comprehensive coverage – This coverage covers damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first have to pay a deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive can pay for things such as damage from getting keyed, hail damage, rock chips in glass, hitting a bird and hitting a deer. The highest amount you’ll receive from a claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Collision coverages – This pays for damage to your Ascender resulting from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision insurance covers things like hitting a mailbox, crashing into a building and hitting a parking meter. This coverage can be expensive, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are older. It’s also possible to raise the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Liability auto insurance – This protects you from damage that occurs to other’s property or people by causing an accident. This coverage protects you from claims by other people, and does not provide coverage for damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
It consists of three limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have values of 25/50/25 which stand for $25,000 bodily injury coverage, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Another option is one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which provides one coverage limit rather than limiting it on a per person basis.
Liability can pay for claims like emergency aid, repair costs for stationary objects, attorney fees and funeral expenses. How much liability coverage do you need? That is your choice, but consider buying as high a limit as you can afford.
Medical payments coverage and PIP – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP provide coverage for bills such as pain medications, dental work and hospital visits. They can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance plan or if you are not covered by health insurance. It covers not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and also covers being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP coverage is not available in all states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage – Your UM/UIM coverage gives you protection when the “other guys” do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered claims include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your Isuzu Ascender.
Because many people carry very low liability coverage limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Normally these coverages are set the same as your liablity limits.
