Overwhelmed by the sheer number of auto insurance sources? People have such a vast assortment of sources available that it can really be a difficult mission to find the lowest price.
Take policy discounts and save
Car insurance can cost a lot, but you might find some hidden discounts that many people don’t even know exist. A few discounts will automatically apply when you complete an application, but a few must be specifically requested before being credited.
- 55 and Retired – If you’re over the age of 55, you can possibly qualify for a slight reduction on a insurance coverage quote on X5 insurance.
- Multiple Vehicles – Buying insurance for all your vehicles on a single policy can reduce rates for all insured vehicles.
- Home Ownership Discount – Being a homeowner can save a few bucks due to the fact that maintaining a home shows financial diligence.
- Driver’s Education for Students – It’s a good idea to have your young drivers take driver’s ed class as it can save substantially.
- Military Rewards – Having a family member in the military can result in better prices.
- Include Life Insurance and Save – Larger car insurance companies have a lower premium rate if you buy a life insurance policy as well.
- Pay Upfront and Save – By making one initial payment instead of monthly or quarterly installments you may reduce your total bill.
Just know that some credits don’t apply to all coverage premiums. Some only apply to specific coverage prices like collision or personal injury protection. Despite the appearance that you would end up receiving a 100% discount, insurance companies wouldn’t stay in business. Any amount of discount will cut the cost of your policy.
A few of the larger companies and some of the discounts are outlined below.
- Progressive may include discounts for continuous coverage, multi-policy, homeowner, online signing, good student, and multi-vehicle.
- Geico has savings for federal employee, defensive driver, driver training, daytime running lights, and anti-lock brakes.
- State Farm discounts include Steer Clear safe driver discount, accident-free, student away at school, Drive Safe & Save, and multiple autos.
- Esurance offers discounts for renters, anti-lock brakes, Switch & Save, Pac-12 alumni, online shopper, and homeowner.
- The Hartford includes discounts for defensive driver, vehicle fuel type, bundle, anti-theft, driver training, good student, and air bag.
Check with each company or agent what discounts are available to you. Some discounts listed above may not apply to policyholders in your area. For a list of insurance companies who offer cheap car insurance quotes, click here.

Which policy gives me the best coverage?
When choosing proper insurance coverage, there is no best way to insure your cars. Everyone’s situation is unique.
Here are some questions about coverages that might point out whether your personal situation would benefit from an agent’s advice.
- Does car insurance cover theft of personal property?
- Is rental equipment covered for theft or damage?
- Should I file a claim if it’s only slightly more than my deductible?
- Do I need motorclub coverage?
- Does coverage extend to my business vehicle?
- Can my teen drive my company car?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions but you know they apply to you, you might consider talking to a licensed agent. To find an agent in your area, simply complete this short form.
Auto insurance coverage basics
Having a good grasp of your auto insurance policy can be of help when determining which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. Policy terminology can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement.
Collision coverages – Collision insurance will pay to fix damage to your X5 from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision can pay for claims like rolling your car, damaging your car on a curb and scraping a guard rail. This coverage can be expensive, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from older vehicles. Another option is to increase the deductible to save money on collision insurance.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage – This protects you and your vehicle from other drivers when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries and damage to your 2010 BMW X5.
Due to the fact that many drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is very important.
Coverage for liability – This coverage provides protection from damage that occurs to people or other property that is your fault. It protects YOU from legal claims by others, and doesn’t cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. As an example, you may have values of 50/100/50 which stand for a limit of $50,000 per injured person, a per accident bodily injury limit of $100,000, and $50,000 of coverage for damaged propery.
Liability coverage pays for things like medical services, attorney fees and court costs. How much liability should you purchase? That is your choice, but consider buying as high a limit as you can afford.
Comprehensive coverage – This coverage covers damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first must pay your deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive coverage pays for things like theft, damage from a tornado or hurricane, vandalism and fire damage. The maximum payout you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Medical payments coverage and PIP – Med pay and PIP coverage kick in for expenses for things like prosthetic devices, chiropractic care, surgery and rehabilitation expenses. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance program or if you are not covered by health insurance. They cover both the driver and occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is only offered in select states and may carry a deductible
Smart shoppers get results
When trying to cut insurance costs, it’s very important that you do not reduce needed coverages to save money. In many cases, someone dropped liability limits or collision coverage only to discover later that it was a big error on their part. The ultimate goal is to buy the best coverage you can find at a price you can afford, but do not skimp to save money.
Cheaper 2010 BMW X5 insurance can be sourced on the web and with local insurance agents, so you should compare both in order to have the best chance of saving money. Some insurance companies do not provide internet price quotes and most of the time these small insurance companies work with independent agencies.
Drivers change insurance companies for a variety of reasons including unfair underwriting practices, being labeled a high risk driver, questionable increases in premium or even poor customer service. Whatever your reason, finding a new car insurance company can be easier than you think.
