Want lower insurance rates for your GMC Acadia? Did you fall for a flashy sales pitch and buy an underperforming, overpriced insurance policy? It’s a common feeling and many consumers feel financially strained by their insurance policy.
Because there are so many choices of insurance companies, it can be diffult for drivers to locate the most affordable insurance company.
How much is insurance?
When looking for the cheapest insurance quotes, there are a couple ways to obtain and compare prices from insurance companies in your area. The simplest method to comparison shop is to use the internet to compare rates. This is quite simple and can be completed in a couple of different ways.
- The simplest way to find low rates is a comparison rater form (click to open form in new window). This type of form keeps you from doing repetitive form entry to each individual insurance company. A single form gets you coverage quotes from all major companies.
- A more difficult way to obtain and compare quotes online consists of visiting each company’s website and repeat the quote process. For sake of this example, we’ll assume you need rates from Farmers, 21st Century and Liberty Mutual. To get rate quotes you would need to go to every website to input your insurance information, and that explains why we recommend the first method.

You can choose any of those ways to find more affodable coverage, but ensure you’re using the same information with every price quote. If the quotes have different limits and deductibles on each one it’s not possible to determine which company has the best rates. Quoting even small variations in insurance coverages or limits could mean much higher rates. And when price shopping your coverage, getting more free quotes will improve the odds of getting a lower rate.

What is the best insurance coverage?
When it comes to choosing adequate coverage, there is no cookie cutter policy. Everyone’s situation is unique and your policy should reflect that. For instance, these questions may help highlight whether your personal situation will benefit from professional help.
- Can I make deliveries for my home business?
- I don’t drive much so do I pay less?
- Do I really need UM/UIM coverage?
- Do I have newly-aquired coverage?
- Am I covered by my employer’s commercial auto policy when driving my personal car for business?
- Why does it cost so much to insure a teen driver?
- Where can I find high-risk insurance?
- Do I have coverage when pulling a U-Haul trailer?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions but one or more may apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies.
Auto insurance coverage information
Having a good grasp of your policy can be of help when determining the right coverages for your vehicles. Policy terminology can be difficult to understand and coverage can change by endorsement. Listed below are typical coverage types offered by insurance companies.
Comprehensive insurance – This coverage covers damage from a wide range of events other than collision. A deductible will apply and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive insurance covers things such as vandalism, damage from a tornado or hurricane, damage from flooding, theft and falling objects. The highest amount you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – Med pay and PIP coverage reimburse you for immediate expenses for prosthetic devices, dental work and EMT expenses. They are often used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if you do not have health coverage. They cover you and your occupants and will also cover being hit by a car walking across the street. Personal Injury Protection is not an option in every state but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Collision coverage – This will pay to fix damage to your Acadia caused by collision with an object or car. You first must pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision coverage protects against things such as crashing into a ditch, sideswiping another vehicle and scraping a guard rail. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so consider removing coverage from lower value vehicles. Another option is to increase the deductible to bring the cost down.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) – Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other drivers when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered losses include injuries to you and your family as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Because many people have only the minimum liability required by law, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is important protection for you and your family.
Liability – This provides protection from injuries or damage you cause to people or other property by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU from legal claims by others, and doesn’t cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. Your policy might show policy limits of 25/50/25 which means a limit of $25,000 per injured person, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and $25,000 of coverage for damaged propery.
Liability coverage pays for things such as legal defense fees, repair bills for other people’s vehicles and court costs. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is up to you, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase higher limits if possible.
