Are you burned out from being strong-armed to pay your insurance bill each month? You have the same problem as millions of other vehicle owners.
Many car insurance companies vie to insure your vehicles, so it can be very hard to choose a insurer and get the definite lowest rate
The quickest method we recommend to compare insurance rates from multiple companies is to understand all the major auto insurance companies have advanced systems to give rate comparisons. To begin a comparison, all you need to do is provide a small amount of information such as if you lease or own, your education level, if you require a SR-22, and daily mileage. That rating data gets sent immediately to many highly-rated insurers and you should receive rate quotes with very little delay.
Insurance discounts help lower rates
Auto insurance companies don’t necessarily list every possible discount in a way that’s easy to find, so below is a list some of the more common and the harder-to-find savings tricks you should be using when you buy car insurance online.
- Accident Forgiveness Coverage – but certain companies will turn a blind eye to one accident without getting socked with a rate hike with the catch being you have to be claim-free prior to the accident.
- Organization Discounts – Affiliation with a civic or occupational organization could earn you a nice discount on your next renewal.
- Early Signing – Some insurance companies provide a discount for switching companies prior to your current policy expiring. You could save around 10% when you buy car insurance online.
- Savings for New Vehicles – Buying coverage on a new vehicle can get you a discount because newer models have to meet stringent safety requirements.
- Drivers Education – Cut your cost by having your teen driver enroll and complete driver’s education if it’s offered in school.
- Student in College – College-age children who live away from home at college and do not take a car to college can receive lower rates.
- Telematics Discount – People who choose to allow driving data collection to scrutinize when and where they use their vehicle by using a telematics device such as Allstate’s Drivewise and State Farm’s In-Drive system might see lower rates if they are good drivers.
Just know that most discounts do not apply to your bottom line cost. Most cut the cost of specific coverages such as medical payments or collision. Even though it appears all those discounts means the company will pay you, companies don’t profit that way.
Some of the larger companies that may offer quotes with some of the above discounts include:

Which is the best car insurance?
When buying adequate coverage, there really is no best way to insure your cars. Every situation is different so your insurance needs to address that. Here are some questions about coverages that might help in determining whether you might need professional guidance.
- Will my vehicle be repaired with OEM or aftermarket parts?
- Can I get a multi-policy discount?
- Is my dog or cat covered if injured in an accident?
- Does my insurance cover damage caused when ticketed for reckless driving?
- How much liability insurance is required?
- Can my teen drive my company car?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions, you may need to chat with an agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, complete this form or click here for a list of car insurance companies in your area.
Car insurance coverage considerations
Understanding the coverages of your policy helps when choosing the right coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be impossible to understand and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording. These are the usual coverages found on the average car insurance policy.
Liability coverages – Liability coverage provides protection from damages or injuries you inflict on other’s property or people that is your fault. It protects you from claims by other people. Liability doesn’t cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. You might see policy limits of 50/100/50 that means you have $50,000 bodily injury coverage, a total of $100,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a limit of $50,000 paid for damaged property. Occasionally you may see one number which is a combined single limit which limits claims to one amount without having the split limit caps.
Liability coverage protects against things like pain and suffering, loss of income, medical expenses, attorney fees and repair costs for stationary objects. How much liability should you purchase? That is up to you, but you should buy as much as you can afford.
Comprehensive (Other than Collision) – This pays for damage that is not covered by collision coverage. A deductible will apply and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive can pay for things like damage from a tornado or hurricane, damage from flooding and fire damage. The maximum amount you’ll receive from a claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers – This coverage provides protection from other motorists when they are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries as well as damage to your GMC Yukon.
Due to the fact that many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is very important. Usually the UM/UIM limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.
Medical expense insurance – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage reimburse you for immediate expenses such as prosthetic devices, EMT expenses, dental work and chiropractic care. The coverages can be used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. They cover all vehicle occupants as well as any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not available in all states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Collision coverages – Collision insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by collision with another car or object. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision can pay for things such as sustaining damage from a pot hole, backing into a parked car, driving through your garage door and rolling your car. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. Drivers also have the option to bump up the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
