Trying to find cheaper insurance rates for your Hyundai Sonata Hybrid? There isn’t anyone who gets a kick out of paying for insurance, particularly when it costs too dang much. You have multiple auto insurance companies to pick from, and although it’s nice to have a selection, so many choices can make it hard to compare company pricing.
Verify you’re getting every discount
Insurance can be prohibitively expensive, but there are discounts available that you may not even know about. Some discounts will apply when you get a quote, but occassionally some discounts must be inquired about before being credited.
- Anti-lock Brake Discount – Cars, trucks, and SUVs with ABS braking systems or traction control can reduce accidents and will save you 10% or more.
- Student Driver Training – Teen drivers should sucessfully take a drivers education course if it’s offered in school.
- Discounts for Multiple Vehicles – Buying coverage for multiple vehicles with the same company can get a discount for every vehicle.
- Senior Citizen Rates – If you’re over the age of 55, you are able to get a discount up to 10% for Sonata Hybrid insurance.
- Defensive Driver Discount – Taking time to complete a course teaching defensive driver skills may get you a small discount if you qualify.
- Air Bag Discount – Vehicles equipped with air bags may qualify for discounts of 25 to 30%.
As a footnote on discounts, some of the credits will not apply to the entire cost. Some only apply to the price of certain insurance coverages like comp or med pay. So when it seems like you would end up receiving a 100% discount, companies don’t profit that way.
A few of the larger companies and a partial list of their discounts are:
- State Farm may offer discounts for multiple autos, driver’s education, student away at school, passive restraint, anti-theft, defensive driving training, and Steer Clear safe driver discount.
- American Family discounts include multi-vehicle, good student, air bags, Steer into Savings, defensive driver, and TimeAway discount.
- Geico may include discounts for military active duty, multi-policy, driver training, five-year accident-free, and emergency military deployment.
- 21st Century offers discounts including driver training, 55 and older, defensive driver, student driver, and anti-lock brakes.
- Progressive offers premium reductions for multi-policy, online quote discount, continuous coverage, good student, multi-vehicle, and online signing.
Double check with each company or agent how you can save money. Some discounts may not apply in your area. To choose companies that have a full spectrum of discounts, follow this link.

When should I discuss my situation with an agent?
When it comes to choosing the right insurance coverage, there is no cookie cutter policy. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s so this has to be addressed. Here are some questions about coverages that may help you determine if you might need an agent’s assistance.
- Does my policy pay for OEM or aftermarket parts?
- Can my teen drive my company car?
- When can my company non-renew my policy?
- Do I have coverage if my license is suspended?
- Do I need higher collision deductibles?
- When should my teen driver be added to my policy?
- Do I need medical payments coverage since I have good health insurance?
- What is the minimum liability in my state?
- Why am I be forced to buy a membership to get insurance from some companies?
- What is high-risk coverage and where do I buy it?
If you’re not sure about those questions but you think they might apply to your situation, then you may want to think about talking to a licensed insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area. It’s fast, doesn’t cost anything and can help protect your family.
Insurance coverages 101
Having a good grasp of your policy can help you determine the best coverages and proper limits and deductibles. Insurance terms can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement. Shown next are the normal coverages offered by insurance companies.
Collision coverage – This coverage will pay to fix damage to your Sonata Hybrid resulting from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. You have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision coverage pays for claims such as scraping a guard rail, backing into a parked car, hitting a parking meter, rolling your car and colliding with another moving vehicle. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from vehicles that are 8 years or older. Drivers also have the option to raise the deductible to save money on collision insurance.
Liability auto insurance – Liability insurance provides protection from damage that occurs to other’s property or people by causing an accident. It protects you from claims by other people. It does not cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have liability limits of 50/100/50 which means $50,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a total of $100,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and property damage coverage for $50,000.
Liability coverage protects against claims such as bail bonds, structural damage, pain and suffering and emergency aid. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is your choice, but consider buying as much as you can afford.
Comprehensive coverage – Comprehensive insurance will pay to fix damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive can pay for things such as vandalism, falling objects, damage from getting keyed, damage from a tornado or hurricane and fire damage. The maximum payout you’ll receive from a claim is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Medical payments coverage and PIP – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage provide coverage for bills like doctor visits, chiropractic care, pain medications, ambulance fees and dental work. They are used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. It covers both the driver and occupants in addition to if you are hit as a while walking down the street. PIP coverage is not an option in every state but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage – This protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other motorists when they do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered losses include injuries to you and your family as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Because many people only carry the minimum required liability limits, their limits can quickly be used up. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family.
Better coverage you can count on
Some companies do not provide rates over the internet and many times these smaller providers prefer to sell through independent insurance agents. Lower-priced 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid insurance is attainable from both online companies and also from your neighborhood agents, and you need to comparison shop both to have the best selection.
As you shop your coverage around, you should never buy lower coverage limits just to save a few bucks. There are too many instances where consumers will sacrifice physical damage coverage only to regret that the small savings ended up costing them much more. Your goal should be to find the BEST coverage at the best cost.
In this article, we presented many ways to shop for 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid insurance online. It’s most important to understand that the more providers you compare, the more likely it is that you will get a better rate. You may even find the lowest prices are with an unexpected company. These companies often have lower rates on specific markets than their larger competitors like State Farm or Progressive.
