Looking for cheaper insurance rates for your Subaru Legacy? Finding cheaper insurance for a Subaru Legacy can normally be difficult, but you can learn the following methods to make it easier.
There are more efficient ways to buy insurance and we’ll show you the proper way to quote coverages on a Subaru and get the cheapest rates from both online companies and local agents.
Compare insurance rate quotes
Comparing insurance rates can be challenging if you don’t utilize the best way to get rate quotes. You can waste hours talking to local insurance agents in your area, or you could save time and use the web to accomplish the same thing much quicker.
Most car insurance companies participate in an industry program where insurance shoppers complete one form, and at least one company then gives them pricing based on that information. This prevents consumers from doing quote requests for every insurance company.

The only downside to comparing rates this way is you don’t know exactly which companies you will receive quotes from. So if you prefer to choose from a list of companies for rate comparison, we put together a list of insurance companies in your area. Click here to view list.
You can use whichever method you prefer to find lower rates, just make sure you are using the same coverages and limits on every price quote you get. If your comparisons have different coverage information you can’t possibly determine the best price for your Subaru Legacy.

Which policy gives me the best coverage?
When it comes to choosing the right insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there isn’t really a one size fits all plan. Every insured’s situation is different.
For example, these questions might point out whether your personal situation might need professional guidance.
- Should I drop comprehensive coverage on older vehicles?
- Are my tools covered if they get stolen from my vehicle?
- Am I better off with higher deductibles on my 2014 Subaru Legacy?
- Does my insurance cover damage caused when ticketed for reckless driving?
- Am I covered if I break a side mirror?
- Am I covered when driving in Canada or Mexico?
- Where can I find DUI or SR-22 insurance?
- What is PIP insurance?
- Does my medical payments coverage pay my health insurance deductible?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions but one or more may apply to you, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, simply complete this short form. It only takes a few minutes and can provide invaluable advice.
What insurance coverages do you need?
Knowing the specifics of insurance helps when choosing appropriate coverage for your vehicles. The coverage terms in a policy can be difficult to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy.
Comprehensive (Other than Collision) – This coverage will pay to fix damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. A deductible will apply then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive coverage pays for things such as damage from flooding, damage from getting keyed, a broken windshield and hitting a bird. The maximum payout a insurance company will pay at claim time is the ACV or actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Medical expense insurance – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage provide coverage for bills for funeral costs, X-ray expenses, surgery, hospital visits and EMT expenses. They can be used in conjunction with a health insurance program or if you do not have health coverage. It covers all vehicle occupants in addition to any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP is not an option in every state and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Liability coverage – Liability insurance protects you from injuries or damage you cause to a person or their property that is your fault. This coverage protects you from legal claims by others, and doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You commonly see limits of 25/50/25 which means a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a total limit of $25,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Some companies may use one number which is a combined single limit which combines the three limits into one amount with no separate limits for injury or property damage.
Liability coverage pays for things like repair bills for other people’s vehicles, structural damage, attorney fees, court costs and medical expenses. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is your choice, but consider buying as high a limit as you can afford.
Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers – This coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other drivers when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include medical payments for you and your occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Since many drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. So UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family. Frequently your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.
Collision coverage – Collision coverage will pay to fix damage to your Legacy caused by collision with another car or object. You will need to pay your deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision coverage protects against things like damaging your car on a curb, hitting a mailbox, sideswiping another vehicle, crashing into a ditch and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider dropping it from older vehicles. You can also bump up the deductible to save money on collision insurance.
