Want lower insurance rates for your Volvo V60? Are you intimidated by the crazy number of insurance companies? Lot’s of other drivers are too. There are such a vast assortment of companies available that it can easily turn into a chore to compare rates.
It’s a good idea to check insurance prices every six months because insurance prices are variable and change quite frequently. Even if you think you had the lowest price on V60 coverage last year other companies may now be cheaper. There is lot of inaccurate information about insurance on the internet, but you can learn some good information on how to stop overpaying for insurance.
You may qualify for discounts
Companies that sell car insurance do not advertise all their discounts very well, so we break down both well-publicized and also the more inconspicuous car insurance savings. If you’re not getting every credit available, you could be paying more than you need to.
- Multiple Cars – Purchasing coverage when you have primary and secondary vehicles on the same car insurance policy can reduce the rates for all insured vehicles.
- Theft Prevention Discount – Cars, trucks, and SUVs equipped with anti-theft or alarm systems are stolen less frequently and therefore earn up to a 10% discount.
- Multiple Policy Discount – When you combine your home and auto insurance and insure them with the same company you may earn up to 20% off your total premium.
- Anti-lock Brake Discount – Anti-lock brake equipped vehicles can reduce accidents so you can save 10 percent or more.
- Driver’s Ed – Require your teen driver to complete a driver education course in school or through a local driver safety program.
- College Student – who are attending college and won’t have access to an insured vehicle could get you a discount.
- Seat Belts Save – Buckling up and requiring all passengers to fasten their seat belts could cut 10% or more off the PIP or medical payment premium.
- Air Bag Discount – Vehicles with factory air bags or automatic seat belts can qualify for discounts of 20 to 30 percent.
- Accident Free – Drivers who don’t have accidents pay less compared to drivers with a long claim history.
As a disclaimer on discounts, some credits don’t apply to the overall cost of the policy. Some only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like physical damage coverage or medical payments. Despite the fact that it seems like all the discounts add up to a free policy, that’s just not realistic.
Companies and a summarized list of policyholder discounts are included below.
- Progressive may have discounts that include online quote discount, multi-policy, good student, online signing, homeowner, and continuous coverage.
- AAA may offer discounts for education and occupation, good driver, anti-theft, pay-in-full, and multi-car.
- Farmers Insurance policyholders can earn discounts including pay in full, switch companies, multi-car, mature driver, youthful driver, and distant student.
- Geico discounts include air bags, emergency military deployment, multi-vehicle, anti-theft, and anti-lock brakes.
- Esurance offers discounts for multi-car, online quote, emergency road assistance, homeowner, anti-theft, paid-in-full, and claim free.
- SAFECO may include discounts for anti-theft, accident prevention training, multi-car, bundle discounts, drive less, and teen safety rewards.
- State Farm has savings for good student, multiple autos, driver’s education, Steer Clear safe driver discount, and passive restraint.

How to buy insurance coverage online
There are multiple methods to shop for insurance coverage, but one way is easier and takes less work. You can waste a lot of time driving to local insurance agents in your area, or you can utilize online quoting to achieve your goal.
All the larger companies are enrolled in a marketplace where prospective buyers send in one quote, and at least one company returns a competitive quote determined by their information. This saves time by eliminating quote requests to each individual insurance coverage company.
To use this form to compare rates click here (opens in new window).
The one downside to using this type of form is that consumers can’t choose which carriers you want to price. If you prefer to choose individual companies to receive pricing from, we have a page of insurance coverage companies in your area. View list of insurance companies.
However you get your quotes, be sure you’re using equivalent deductibles and coverage limits for each comparison quote. If you compare different values for each quote it’s not possible to determine the lowest rate for your Volvo V60. Just slight variations in insurance coverages may cause a big price difference. And when price shopping your coverage, comparing all the rates in your area helps locate a lower rate. Some insurance companies are not set up to provide prices over the internet, so it’s recommended that you also compare price estimates on coverage from those companies, too.
There’s no such thing as the perfect insurance policy
When choosing the right insurance coverage, there is no cookie cutter policy. Every situation is different.
Here are some questions about coverages that may help you determine whether or not you could use an agent’s help.
- Is there coverage for injuries to my pets?
- Should I carry comprehensive and collision coverage?
- What can I do if my company denied a claim?
- Is my state a no-fault state?
- What is the rate difference between pleasure use and commuting?
- When do I need to add a new car to my policy?
- Does my personal policy cover me when driving out-of-state?
- Do I need roadside assistance coverage?
- Is my vehicle covered by my employer’s policy when using it for work?
If you can’t answer these questions, you might consider talking to an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, complete this form.
Car insurance coverage information
Understanding the coverages of insurance can help you determine the best coverages and proper limits and deductibles. Insurance terms can be ambiguous and nobody wants to actually read their policy.
Liability auto insurance – Liability coverage will cover damage that occurs to people or other property. It protects YOU against other people’s claims, and doesn’t cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You commonly see limits of 50/100/50 which stand for a limit of $50,000 per injured person, a per accident bodily injury limit of $100,000, and property damage coverage for $50,000. Some companies may use a combined limit which provides one coverage limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability can pay for things like funeral expenses, medical services, emergency aid, structural damage and medical expenses. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is up to you, but you should buy as high a limit as you can afford.
Comprehensive coverages – This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first have to pay a deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against claims such as hail damage, theft, hitting a deer, falling objects and a broken windshield. The maximum payout you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Uninsured and underinsured coverage – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection from other motorists when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. This coverage pays for medical payments for you and your occupants as well as damage to your Volvo V60.
Since many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their limits can quickly be used up. So UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Normally the UM/UIM limits are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.
Coverage for medical payments – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage reimburse you for short-term medical expenses such as pain medications, chiropractic care and surgery. The coverages can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and also covers any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is not available in all states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Collision – This will pay to fix damage to your V60 resulting from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision coverage pays for things such as rolling your car, colliding with a tree, hitting a mailbox and driving through your garage door. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from older vehicles. It’s also possible to bump up the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Don’t break the bank
In this article, we covered a lot of ways to lower your 2015 Volvo V60 insurance premium rates. It’s most important to understand that the more price quotes you have, the better your comparison will be. Consumers could even find that the biggest savings come from a small mutual company.
People leave their current company for any number of reasons including unfair underwriting practices, being labeled a high risk driver, lack of trust in their agent and denial of a claim. Regardless of your reason, finding a great new company is less work than it seems.
When you buy car insurance online, do not skimp on critical coverages to save a buck or two. In too many instances, drivers have reduced collision coverage only to regret at claim time that saving that couple of dollars actually costed them tens of thousands. Your strategy should be to get the best coverage possible for the lowest cost while not skimping on critical coverages.
