Comparing and finding more affordable coverage rates for car insurance can seem to be kind of frustrating for drivers not familiar with shopping for insurance online. Drivers have so many agents and companies to choose from that it can turn into a lot of work to find cheaper car insurance rates.
Ways to get car insurance quotes
Many insurance companies like State Farm and Allstate provide prices online. Getting online rates is easy for anyone as all you need to do is type in the amount of coverage you want on the page. After the form is submitted, the quote system will obtain information on your driving record and credit history and quotes a price based on these and other factors.
This simplifies rate comparisons, but the time required to go to several different sites and type in the same information is a big time waster. But it’s also necessary to get many rate quotes if you are searching for the best price on car insurance.
There is a better way to compare rates
The easiest way to find better car insurance pricing is to use a quote form to get prices from multiple companies. It’s a real time-saver, requires much less work on your part, and makes comparison shopping a lot less work. After sending the form, it gets priced and you can choose any of the quote results. If one or more price quotes are lower than your current rates, it’s easy to complete the application and buy the new coverage. The entire process can be completed in a matter of minutes and can result in significant savings.
If you want to fill out one form to compare multiple rates now, click here to open in a new tab and enter your information. If you have coverage now, it’s recommended you type in coverages and limits just like they are on your policy. This guarantees you are getting rate quotes based on similar coverages.

Take policy discounts and save
Car insurance can cost a lot, but there may be some discounts to reduce the price significantly. Some of these disounts will be visible at the time of purchase, but some may not be applied and must be asked for before they will apply.
- Theft Prevention Discount – Vehicles with anti-theft systems prevent vehicle theft and earn discounts up to 10% off your insurance quote.
- Homeowners Savings – Just being a homeowner can earn you a little savings because maintaining a house means you have a higher level of financial diligence.
- Discount for Passive Restraints – Factory air bags may qualify for discounts up to 30%.
- Service Members Pay Less – Having a family member in the military could be rewarded with lower insurance rates.
- Early Renewal Discounts – Some larger companies give discounts for signing up prior to the expiration date on your current policy. It could save around 10% when you buy insurance online.
- Driving Data Discount – Insureds who allow companies to track when and where they use their vehicle by using a telematics device in their vehicle such as Progressive’s Snapshot may get a rate reduction if they have good driving habits.
- Distant College Student Discount – College-age children who are attending college and do not have access to a covered vehicle may be insured at a cheaper rate.
- Government Employees – Having worked for a branch of the government may qualify for a discount when you quote insurance for Versa coverage depending on your company.
- Discounts for Multiple Vehicles – Insuring all your vehicles with one company can get a discount for every vehicle.
As a disclaimer on discounts, most discount credits are not given to the overall cost of the policy. Most only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like medical payments or collision. Just because it seems like you can get free auto insurance, company stockholders wouldn’t be very happy.
Companies who might offer some of the above discounts include:
When quoting, ask each company to apply every possible discount. Some of the earlier mentioned discounts may not be available everywhere. If you would like to see a list of providers with the best insurance discounts, click here.
Which policy gives me the best coverage?
When it comes to buying the right insurance coverage, there really is no “perfect” insurance plan. Every situation is different.
Here are some questions about coverages that can help discover if you would benefit from an agent’s advice.
- Is my business laptop covered if it gets stolen from my vehicle?
- Do I need PIP (personal injury protection) coverage in my state?
- Is my teenager covered with friends in the car?
- Is business equipment covered while in my vehicle?
- Is a fancy paint job covered?
- Am I covered if hit by an uninsured driver?
- Should I sign the liability waiver when renting a car?
- How high should my medical payments coverage be?
- Does my 2018 Nissan Versa need full coverage?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions but one or more may apply to you, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, fill out this quick form.
Insurance coverage considerations
Knowing the specifics of your insurance policy can be of help when determining which coverages you need for your vehicles. The terms used in a policy can be confusing and nobody wants to actually read their policy.
Collision protection
This will pay to fix damage to your Versa caused by collision with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You will need to pay your deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision coverage pays for claims like scraping a guard rail, driving through your garage door, sustaining damage from a pot hole and backing into a parked car. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider removing coverage from older vehicles. You can also choose a higher deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Comprehensive protection
Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You need to pay your deductible first then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for claims like theft, fire damage, a tree branch falling on your vehicle, hail damage and vandalism. The most you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Uninsured or underinsured coverage
This coverage protects you and your vehicle when the “other guys” either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include medical payments for you and your occupants and also any damage incurred to your Nissan Versa.
Since a lot of drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. So UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked.
Auto liability
Liability insurance will cover damage or injury you incur to other’s property or people by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU from claims by other people, and doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. As an example, you may have liability limits of 25/50/25 which means $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, $50,000 for the entire accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000.
Liability insurance covers things like legal defense fees, medical expenses, loss of income, repair costs for stationary objects and structural damage. How much coverage you buy is a decision to put some thought into, but you should buy as much as you can afford.
Medical expense coverage
Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP reimburse you for short-term medical expenses like hospital visits, ambulance fees, doctor visits, chiropractic care and surgery. They are used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. Coverage applies to both the driver and occupants as well as being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP coverage is only offered in select states and may carry a deductible
