Are you drained from sacrificing to insure your Acura every month? Your situation is no different than millions of other consumers. Since consumers have many options when it comes to insurance coverage, it’s difficult to choose the most affordable company.
Shopping for affordable car insurance can be fairly easy. If you have insurance now or are shopping for new coverage, you can use these techniques to shop for the lowest rates while maximizing coverage. Drivers only need an understanding of the best way to shop for car insurance online.
How to compare insurance price quotes
Effectively comparing insurance prices can be a lot of work if you aren’t aware of the best way to get rate quotes. You could spend the better part of a day discussing policy coverages with insurance agencies in your area, or you could save time and use the web to maximize your effort.
Many popular insurance companies participate in an industry program where insurance shoppers enter their policy data once, and at least one company then gives them pricing for coverage. This eliminates the need for quotation requests to each company.

The one disadvantage to pricing coverage this way is that you can’t choose the insurers to get pricing from. So if you prefer to pick specific insurance companies to request quotes from, we put together a list of companies who write insurance in your area. View list of insurance companies.
You can use whichever method you prefer to find lower rates, just ensure you’re using apples-to-apples quote information on every quote. If you use unequal deductibles or liability limits it’s impossible to determine which rate is truly the best.

Tailor your car insurance coverage to you
When buying coverage, there is no single plan that fits everyone. Everyone’s situation is a little different and your policy should reflect that. Here are some questions about coverages that may help highlight whether you will benefit from professional help.
- Why am I be forced to buy a membership to get insurance from some companies?
- I have a DUI can I still get coverage?
- How much underlying liability do I need for an umbrella policy?
- Am I covered if I wreck a rental car?
- Do I have any recourse if my insurance company denies a claim?
- Is my vehicle covered by my employer’s policy when using it for work?
- Am I covered if my car is in a flood?
- Is a blown tire covered by insurance?
If you can’t answer these questions but you know they apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to an agent. Auto insurance coverage information
Learning about specific coverages of insurance aids in choosing the best coverages and proper limits and deductibles. The coverage terms in a policy can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring. These are the usual coverages found on most insurance policies.
Collision coverage – Collision coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage from colliding with an object or car. You will need to pay your deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision coverage protects against claims like hitting a mailbox, scraping a guard rail, crashing into a ditch, crashing into a building and backing into a parked car. This coverage can be expensive, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. Drivers also have the option to raise the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Coverage for liability – Liability insurance will cover damage that occurs to people or other property in an accident. It protects YOU against other people’s claims, and does not provide coverage for your own vehicle damage or injuries.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. You commonly see liability limits of 100/300/100 that means you have a $100,000 limit per person for injuries, a limit of $300,000 in injury protection per accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000. Some companies may use one limit called combined single limit (CSL) that pays claims from the same limit rather than limiting it on a per person basis.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as medical services, medical expenses, legal defense fees, pain and suffering and court costs. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is your choice, but buy as much as you can afford.
Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision) – This pays for damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You first have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive insurance covers things such as a broken windshield, fire damage, vandalism and falling objects. The highest amount a insurance company will pay at claim time is the ACV or actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance – This protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other motorists when they are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered claims include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as damage to your 1996 Acura SLX.
Because many people carry very low liability coverage limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. So UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits are set the same as your liablity limits.
Insurance for medical payments – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP reimburse you for immediate expenses for pain medications, X-ray expenses and rehabilitation expenses. The coverages can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance plan or if you do not have health coverage. It covers not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and also covers any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not universally available and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
