Trying to find cheaper insurance rates for your Audi A6? Nobody I know looks forward to paying premiums for insurance, particularly when they are paying too much.
Multiple insurance companies compete for your hard-earned dollar, and because of this it can be hard to compare auto insurance companies and get the definite lowest rate possible.
You need to check insurance prices before your next renewal because insurance prices change quite often. If you had the best deal on A6 coverage on your last policy there may be better deals available now. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about insurance because it’s time to teach you one of the easiest ways to save money, get proper coverage and the best rates.
If you currently have a car insurance policy, you should be able to save some money using these tips. Buying car insurance is not that difficult. Although car owners benefit from understanding the methods companies use to price insurance differently because it can help you find the best coverage.
What determines Audi A6 insurance costs?
Many different elements are used when quoting car insurance. Some are obvious such as your driving record, although some other factors are less apparent like where you live or how financially stable you are.
- Bad credit hurts insurance prices – Having a bad credit score can be a huge factor in determining what you pay. If your credit leaves room for improvement, you could pay less to insure your 2009 Audi A6 if you improve your credit rating. Drivers with very high credit ratings tend to be better drivers and file fewer claims than those with bad credit.
- Car and home together may be cheaper – The majority of insurers will give a discount to insureds who consolidate policies with them. It’s known as a multi-policy discount. Even if you already get this discount, it’s in your best interest to shop around to verify if the discount is saving money.
- Little extras can really add up – Insurance policies have a lot of optional add-on coverages that you can get tricked into buying if you aren’t diligent. Coverages like rental car reimbursement, towing coverage, and additional equipment coverage may be wasting your money. They may seem like a good idea at first, but if you don’t need them eliminate the coverages to reduce your premium.
- Liability insurance is important – Liability coverage will afford coverage if you are determined to be liable for causing personal injury or damage in an accident. It provides you with a defense in court which can be incredibly expensive. Liability insurance is quite affordable compared to comp and collision, so drivers should make sure they buy enough to cover all assets.
- Reserve policy claims for larger damages – Auto insurance companies provide the best rates to people who file claims infrequently. If you tend to file frequent claims, you can expect higher rates. Your car insurance is meant to be used in the event of more catestrophic claims.
- Cut auto insurance rates and deter theft – Selecting a car model with an alarm system can get you a discount on your auto insurance. Theft deterrent systems such as LoJack tracking devices, vehicle tamper alarm systems or GM’s OnStar system help track and prevent car theft.

These discounts can lower your insurance coverage rates
Not many people think insurance is cheap, but there may be some discounts that can help lower your rates. Most are applied at the time of quoting, but a few need to be specially asked for before you will receive the discount.
- Onboard Data Collection – People who choose to allow driving data collection to monitor their driving habits by installing a telematics device such as Progressive’s Snapshot may see discounts if they have good driving habits.
- Anti-lock Brake System – Vehicles with ABS and/or traction control are much safer to drive and earn discounts up to 10%.
- Switch and Save Discount – A few insurance coverage companies allow discounts for switching to them before your current policy expires. Ten percent is about the average savings.
- Discounts for Good Drivers – Insureds without accidents can pay as much as 50% less on A6 coverage than drivers with accidents.
- Accident Waiver – but certain companies allow you one accident before your rates go up if you have no claims before the accident.
- Driver Training Discounts – Participating in a safe driver course is a good idea and can lower rates if you qualify.
- Home Ownership Discount – Just owning your own home may trigger a policy discount on insurance coverage because of the fact that having a home requires personal responsibility.
- Multi-car Discount – Drivers who insure more than one vehicle on one policy can reduce rates for all insured vehicles.
Discounts lower rates, but some credits don’t apply to all coverage premiums. Most only apply to specific coverage prices like comprehensive or collision. Just because you may think all the discounts add up to a free policy, companies don’t profit that way.
A list of insurance coverage companies and a partial list of their discounts include:
- State Farm includes discounts for good student, student away at school, good driver, accident-free, defensive driving training, Drive Safe & Save, and driver’s education.
- Geico has discounts for membership and employees, five-year accident-free, emergency military deployment, seat belt use, and air bags.
- SAFECO may have discounts that include bundle discounts, drive less, homeowner, anti-theft, and accident prevention training.
- Farmers Insurance may include discounts for bundle discounts, electronic funds transfer, youthful driver, early shopping, good student, and pay in full.
- AAA offers discounts including AAA membership discount, education and occupation, good driver, multi-car, multi-policy, and pay-in-full.
- USAA policyholders can earn discounts including multi-vehicle, vehicle storage, defensive driver, family discount, new vehicle, multi-policy, and annual mileage.
Before buying, ask each company which discounts they offer. Some credits might not be available to policyholders everywhere.
Different people need different insurance coverages
When it comes to buying the best insurance coverage, there isn’t really a perfect coverage plan. Every insured’s situation is different and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. For instance, these questions can aid in determining if your situation would benefit from professional advice.
- Does my personal policy cover me when driving out-of-state?
- Is my teenager covered with friends in the car?
- Is my Audi A6 covered if I use it for business?
- How can I get high-risk coverage after a DUI?
- Do I need to file an SR-22 for a DUI in my state?
- Is upholstery damage covered by car insurance?
- Does my policy cover me when driving someone else’s vehicle?
- Will I be non-renewed for getting a DUI or other conviction?
- Will my insurance pay for OEM parts?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions but one or more may apply to you then you might want to talk to an agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, simply complete this short form or click here for a list of insurance companies in your area.
Information about specific coverages
Having a good grasp of your policy can help you determine the best coverages for your vehicles. The coverage terms in a policy can be ambiguous and nobody wants to actually read their policy. These are the usual coverages found on most insurance policies.
Coverage for collisions
Collision insurance pays for damage to your A6 resulting from a collision with an object or car. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision can pay for claims like crashing into a ditch, driving through your garage door and sideswiping another vehicle. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are older. Drivers also have the option to choose a higher deductible to save money on collision insurance.
UM/UIM Coverage
Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection when the “other guys” either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. It can pay for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and also any damage incurred to your Audi A6.
Since a lot of drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. So UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked.
Comprehensive or Other Than Collision
This coverage pays for damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You need to pay your deductible first and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive can pay for things like fire damage, hitting a deer, a broken windshield, hitting a bird and rock chips in glass. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Medical costs insurance
Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP pay for bills such as rehabilitation expenses, EMT expenses, hospital visits and X-ray expenses. The coverages can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if you do not have health coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants in addition to getting struck while a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is not universally available but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Liability auto insurance
Liability coverage provides protection from damage or injury you incur to a person or their property. This insurance protects YOU from claims by other people. Liability doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Liability coverage has three limits: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. You might see values of 100/300/100 which stand for $100,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a limit of $300,000 in injury protection per accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as repair costs for stationary objects, pain and suffering and funeral expenses. How much liability coverage do you need? That is up to you, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase higher limits if possible.
