Looking for lower car insurance rates for your BMW 2 Series? Frustrated by the crazy number of car insurance providers in your area? You have so many options that it can easily turn into a difficult challenge to find better premium rates.
Compare free insurance quotes
When looking for affordable insurance coverage quotes, there are a couple ways of comparing price quotes from many insurance companies in your state. The easiest way by far to comparison shop is simply to get online rate quotes. It is quite easy and can be accomplished using a couple different methods.
- The easiest and least time consuming way to get quotes would be an industry-wide quote request form click here to open form in new window. This form prevents you from having to do boring form submissions for every company. One form submission gets insurance cost estimates from many national carriers. It’s the quickest way to get rates.
- A slightly less efficient method to shop for insurance online is spending the time to visit each individual company website and go through the quote process again. For example, we’ll assume you are doing a rate comparison from Liberty Mutual, Farmers and Geico. To do that, you would have to spend time going to each site individually and type in your information over and over, which can take a lot of time.

- The hardest method to get rate quotes is to spend time driving to and from local insurance agencies. The fact that you can get quotes online makes this unnecessary unless you’re the type of person who wants the peace of mind of a local agent. It is possible to comparison shop online but still have the advice of a local agent.
Which method you use is up to you, but make sure you are using the exact same coverage information for each quote you get. If you are comparing unequal deductibles or liability limits it will be very difficult to find the best deal for your BMW 2 Series. Slightly different limits could mean much higher rates. It’s important to know that getting more free quotes will enable you to find better pricing. Not every company allows you to get price estimates online, so you need to compare price quotes from them, too.

Does insurance coverage advertising bend the truth?
Popular insurance coverage providers such as Allstate, Geico and Progressive consistently run ads on TV and radio. They all seem to say the same thing that drivers will save a bundle if you switch your coverage. But how can every company save you money? Here is how they do it.
Most companies give the best rates for the type of insured that makes them money. An example of a profitable customer could be over age 30, insures multiple vehicles, and drives less than 10,000 miles a year. A customer getting a price quote that meets those criteria will get very good premium rates and is almost guaranteed to save a lot if they switch.
Drivers who are not a match for the ideal profile will be charged higher premium rates and the prospect going elsewhere. If you listen to the ad wording, they say “people that switch” but not “all drivers who get quotes” can save as much as they claim. That’s the way insurance companies can make those claims. Because of these techniques, drivers should get insurance coverage quotes from several different companies. It’s impossible to know with any certainty which company will have the best rates at this point in time.
Verify you’re earning every discount
Insuring your fleet can be pricey, but you might be missing out on some discounts that may help make it more affordable. Some discounts apply automatically when you quote, but a few must be specially asked for prior to getting the savings.
- Low Mileage Discounts – Driving less may allow you to get slightly better insurancerates than normal.
- One Accident Forgiven – Not really a discount, but companies like Geico and Liberty Mutual allow you one accident before your rates go up as long as you don’t have any claims for a specific time period.
- Drivers Ed for Students – Require your teen driver to enroll and complete driver’s education as it can save substantially.
- Sign Online – Certain companies will discount your bill up to fifty bucks simply for signing digitally online.
- Memberships – Belonging to a civic or occupational organization could qualify you for a break on your next insurance statement.
- Use Seat Belts – Drivers who always wear seat belts and also require passengers to buckle up can save up to 15% off PIP or medical payments premium.
As a sidenote, some of the credits will not apply to the entire cost. The majority will only reduce individual premiums such as medical payments or collision. So when the math indicates all the discounts add up to a free policy, companies don’t profit that way.
Companies and the discounts they provide are shown below.
- Geico discounts include membership and employees, driver training, five-year accident-free, multi-policy, air bags, and military active duty.
- MetLife may have discounts that include multi-policy, good student, defensive driver, accident-free, and good driver.
- State Farm includes discounts for anti-theft, good driver, multiple policy, multiple autos, safe vehicle, Steer Clear safe driver discount, and accident-free.
- Progressive may offer discounts for online signing, multi-policy, multi-vehicle, continuous coverage, homeowner, and online quote discount.
- Mercury Insurance has discounts for good driver, location of vehicle, age of vehicle, anti-theft, professional/association, accident-free, and low natural disaster claims.
- 21st Century offers premium reductions for homeowners, 55 and older, driver training, good student, theft prevention, and automatic seat belts.
- Allstate policyholders can earn discounts including FullPay discount, good student, anti-theft, defensive driver, EZ pay plan discount, and early signing.
It’s a good idea to ask each company to apply every possible discount. Savings may not apply to policies in your area. For a list of insurers that provide some of the discounts listed above, click here.
When should I discuss my situation with an agent?
When buying the best insurance coverage coverage, there isn’t really a single plan that fits everyone. Everyone’s situation is a little different.
Here are some questions about coverages that can help discover whether or not you will benefit from professional help.
- Is borrowed equipment or tools covered if stolen or damaged?
- What is the ISO rating for a 2016 BMW 2 Series?
- Am I getting all the discounts available?
- When can I cancel my policy?
- Am I covered when driving someone else’s vehicle?
- Do I need added coverage for expensive stereo equipment?
- Do I need PIP coverage since I have good health insurance?
- Which companies will insure high-risk drivers?
If you’re not sure about those questions but one or more may apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, take a second and complete this form.

Car insurance policy coverages for a BMW 2 Series
Learning about specific coverages of car insurance helps when choosing appropriate coverage for your vehicles. Car insurance terms can be confusing and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording.
Comprehensive or Other Than Collision
Comprehensive insurance coverage will pay to fix damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You first must pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive insurance covers claims like theft, rock chips in glass, damage from getting keyed, falling objects and damage from flooding. The highest amount you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Liability coverage
This coverage provides protection from damage or injury you incur to other people or property. This coverage protects you against other people’s claims. It does not cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.
It consists of three limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have values of 50/100/50 which means a $50,000 limit per person for injuries, a limit of $100,000 in injury protection per accident, and a limit of $50,000 paid for damaged property.
Liability can pay for claims like medical expenses, loss of income, medical services and repair bills for other people’s vehicles. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as much as you can afford.
UM/UIM Coverage
Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants when the “other guys” either have no liability insurance or not enough. It can pay for injuries to you and your family as well as damage to your BMW 2 Series.
Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a good idea.
Auto collision coverage
This coverage pays for damage to your 2 Series resulting from a collision with an object or car. You have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision coverage protects against things such as damaging your car on a curb, crashing into a building, scraping a guard rail, backing into a parked car and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so consider removing coverage from older vehicles. Another option is to choose a higher deductible to save money on collision insurance.
Medical costs insurance
Med pay and PIP coverage kick in for expenses for things like chiropractic care, pain medications, X-ray expenses, prosthetic devices and EMT expenses. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance plan or if you do not have health coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants as well as any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP is only offered in select states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Smart consumers save more
When getting insurance coverage quotes online, make sure you don’t sacrifice coverage to reduce premiums. In too many instances, an insured dropped physical damage coverage only to regret that a couple dollars of savings turned into a financial nightmare. Your goal should be to buy a smart amount of coverage at an affordable rate while not skimping on critical coverages.
We’ve covered some good ideas how to save on 2016 BMW 2 Series insurance. The key concept to understand is the more rate comparisons you have, the better chance you’ll have of finding cheaper insurance coverage. You may be surprised to find that the most savings is with the least-expected company.
More affordable car insurance can be bought online and from local agencies, so you should be comparing quotes from both to have the best selection. Some insurance companies may not offer internet price quotes and most of the time these small, regional companies only sell through independent agents.
