Trying to find cheaper insurance for a BMW 3 Series can normally be a lot of work, but you can use these tips to save time. There is a better way to find auto insurance online and you need to know the quickest way to quote coverages for a BMW and obtain the cheapest rates from local insurance agents and online providers.
Find discounts to get cheap insurance quotes
Some insurers do not list all possible discounts very well, so the below list has a few of the more common as well as some of the hidden savings tricks you should be using when you buy auto insurance online. If you do not check that you are getting every discount possible, you’re paying more than you need to.
- Military Rewards – Having a deployed family member could mean lower prices.
- Drive Safe and Save – Drivers who avoid accidents could pay up to 40% less for 3 Series insurance than drivers with accident claims.
- Renewal Discounts – A few insurance companies offer discounts for renewing your policy prior to your current policy expiring. You may see this discount when you get auto insurance quotes online.
- Driver’s Education for Students – Cut your cost by having your teen driver successfully complete driver’s ed class as it will make them better drivers and lower rates.
- Resident Student – who live away from home to go to college and do not have a car can receive lower rates.
- Theft Prevention System – Vehicles that have factory alarm systems and tracking devices are stolen less frequently and therefore earn up to a 10% discount.
- Discount for Life Insurance – Some insurance companies give a discounted premium rate on car insurance if you buy auto and life insurance together.
- Student Discounts – Maintaining excellent grades can earn a discount of 20% or more. The good student discount can last up to age 25.
- Telematics Devices – Drivers who elect to allow data collection to study where and when they drive by using a telematics device like In-Drive from State Farm and Progressive’s Snapshot might get better premium rates if they show good driving skills.
- Seat Belts Save – Buckling up and requiring all passengers to buckle their seat belts can save a little off the personal injury premium cost.
One last thing about discounts, some credits don’t apply the the whole policy. Most only cut specific coverage prices like liability and collision coverage. So when it seems like you could get a free insurance policy, insurance companies aren’t that generous.
Some of the larger companies that may have most of the discounts above may include but are not limited to:
Before you buy a policy, ask every insurance company which discounts they offer. Savings may not apply to policies in your area. If you would like to view companies who offer cheap insurance quotes, click this link.

Cheap auto insurance
Shopping for lower auto insurance rates can take hours if you don’t utilize the most efficient way. You could waste time talking about coverages with agents in your area, or you could use online quotes to achieve your goal.
Most major companies belong to an insurance system where prospective buyers enter their coverage request one time, and each company returns a rated price based on that data. This system prevents you from having to do quote requests to every company.
To compare rates now click here (opens in new window).
The single downside to using this type of system is you can’t choose the companies to get pricing from. So if you want to choose specific providers to receive pricing from, we have assembled a list of auto insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.
The method you choose is up to you, but make absolute certain that you use the same coverage data for every company. If you are comparing differing limits you will not be able to make a fair comparison for your BMW 3 Series.
Tailor your insurance coverage to you
When it comes to choosing proper insurance coverage, there really is no “best” method to buy coverage. Every insured’s situation is different.
Here are some questions about coverages that may help you determine whether or not you might need professional guidance.
- Should I drop comprehensive coverage on older vehicles?
- Where can I get insurance after a DUI in my state?
- When should I buy a commercial auto policy?
- Am I covered by my employer’s commercial auto policy when driving my personal car for business?
- Does my policy cover my teen driver if they drive my company car?
- Should I buy additional glass protection?
If you can’t answer these questions but you think they might apply to your situation then you might want to talk to an agent. If you don’t have a local agent, complete this form. It’s fast, doesn’t cost anything and you can get the answers you need.
Car insurance coverage breakdown
Having a good grasp of a car insurance policy helps when choosing which coverages you need and the correct deductibles and limits. Policy terminology can be impossible to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring.
Liability coverage – Liability insurance provides protection from damage that occurs to a person or their property that is your fault. This coverage protects you from claims by other people. Liability doesn’t cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You might see policy limits of 100/300/100 that means you have a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a per accident bodily injury limit of $300,000, and a total limit of $100,000 for damage to vehicles and property.
Liability insurance covers things such as loss of income, repair bills for other people’s vehicles, structural damage and attorney fees. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a personal decision, but you should buy higher limits if possible.
Comprehensive coverage – This coverage pays for damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You need to pay your deductible first then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive can pay for things such as a tree branch falling on your vehicle, hitting a bird, vandalism, a broken windshield and rock chips in glass. The highest amount your car insurance company will pay is the cash value of the vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Collision coverage – Collision insurance pays for damage to your 3 Series resulting from a collision with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You will need to pay your deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage pays for claims like backing into a parked car, sideswiping another vehicle, rolling your car and scraping a guard rail. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so consider removing coverage from older vehicles. Another option is to bump up the deductible to bring the cost down.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage – Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle from other drivers when they are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. It can pay for hospital bills for your injuries as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Because many people have only the minimum liability required by law, their limits can quickly be used up. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a good idea.
Medical payments coverage and PIP – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP pay for expenses for dental work, X-ray expenses, hospital visits, chiropractic care and ambulance fees. They can be used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if you are not covered by health insurance. Medical payments and PIP cover not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants as well as being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP is only offered in select states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage

Find Good Coverage for Less
As you quote auto insurance, never sacrifice coverage to reduce premiums. In too many instances, someone dropped full coverage only to regret at claim time they didn’t have enough coverage. Your aim should be to find the BEST coverage for the lowest price and still be able to protect your assets.
Consumers who switch companies do it for a number of reasons such as extreme rates for teen drivers, policy cancellation, poor customer service and even an unsatisfactory settlement offer. No matter why you want to switch, choosing a new insurance company is less work than it seems.
Some insurance companies do not provide the ability to get a quote online regional carriers only sell coverage through independent agents. Discount 1993 BMW 3 Series insurance can be found online and with local insurance agents, and you should compare rates from both so you have a total pricing picture.
