Are you irritated from not being able to scrape enough together to insure your Chevy every month? You are in the same boat as most other drivers. Since drivers have many companies to choose from, it’s nearly impossible to find the most cost effective insurance company.
The purpose of this post is to instruct you on how to get online quotes and some tips to save money. If you currently have a car insurance policy, you will most likely be able to reduce your rates substantially using this information. Drivers only need an understanding of the tricks to compare rates online.
Insurance policy discounts
Insurance is neither fun to buy or cheap, but you might find some hidden discounts that could drop your premiums quite a bit. Most are applied at the time of quoting, but once in a while a discount must be asked about before you will receive the discount.
- Resident Student – Youth drivers who live away from home at college and do not take a car to college may qualify for this discount.
- No Claims – Claim-free drivers get the best insurance rates compared to accident-prone drivers.
- Save over 55 – If you qualify as a senior citizen, you can get a small discount on rates for Impala coverage.
- Air Bag Discount – Vehicles equipped with air bags and/or automatic seat belt systems could see savings as much as 30%.
- Life Insurance – Select insurance carriers reward you with a lower price if you buy some life insurance too.
- Discounts for Government Workers – Employees or retirees of the government could provide a small rate reduction for Impala coverage depending on your company.
A little disclaimer on discounts, some credits don’t apply to the entire cost. Most only cut the cost of specific coverages such as physical damage coverage or medical payments. Despite the appearance that it’s possible to get free car insurance, nobody gets a free ride.
Companies that have many of the previously listed discounts may include but are not limited to:
When getting a coverage quote, ask every prospective company what discounts are available to you. Some discounts listed above might not apply everywhere. To locate companies with discount insurance rates, click this link.

How do I know if I need professional advice?
When buying adequate coverage for your vehicles, there is no best way to insure your cars. Everyone’s situation is a little different and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. These are some specific questions may help highlight if you might need professional guidance.
- Am I covered when pulling a rental trailer?
- Should I waive the damage coverage when renting a car?
- What is the difference between comprehensive and collision coverage?
- What is the ISO rating for a 2002 Chevy Impala?
- Does liability extend to a camper or trailer?
- How can I find cheaper teen driver insurance?
- Should I buy full coverage?
- Am I covered if my car is in a flood?
- Can I rate high risk drivers on liability-only vehicles?
- Am I covered when renting a car or should I buy coverage from the car rental agency?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions but you know they apply to you then you might want to talk to an insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, simply complete this short form or go to this page to view a list of companies. It is quick, free and can provide invaluable advice.
Specific coverage details
Having a good grasp of your policy can be of help when determining the right coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. The terms used in a policy can be difficult to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring. Listed below are the normal coverages found on most auto insurance policies.
Auto collision coverage
This pays for damage to your Impala from colliding with another car or object. A deductible applies then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision coverage protects against things like backing into a parked car, crashing into a building, scraping a guard rail, damaging your car on a curb and rolling your car. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. Another option is to increase the deductible to save money on collision insurance.
Uninsured or underinsured coverage
This coverage provides protection when the “other guys” do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered claims include medical payments for you and your occupants and also any damage incurred to your Chevy Impala.
Since many drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. So UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Frequently the UM/UIM limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Liability
This provides protection from injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people. This coverage protects you against other people’s claims. It does not cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have limits of 100/300/100 that means you have $100,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a limit of $300,000 in injury protection per accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000. Alternatively, you may have one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which combines the three limits into one amount without having the split limit caps.
Liability coverage protects against claims like attorney fees, repair costs for stationary objects, medical expenses and legal defense fees. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is your choice, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as high a limit as you can afford.
Comprehensive protection
Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first must pay your deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive insurance covers things like rock chips in glass, hitting a deer and a tree branch falling on your vehicle. The highest amount your auto insurance company will pay is the cash value of the vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Medical expense coverage
Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance kick in for bills such as X-ray expenses, funeral costs, doctor visits, dental work and hospital visits. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. It covers all vehicle occupants and also covers if you are hit as a while walking down the street. PIP is not universally available and may carry a deductible
A penny earned…
In this article, we presented a lot of techniques to reduce 2002 Chevy Impala insurance car insurance rates online. The most important thing to understand is the more rate comparisons you have, the more likely it is that you will get a better rate. Consumers could even find that the lowest car insurance rates are with a lesser-known regional company. Regional companies may have significantly lower premium rates on certain market segments as compared to the big name companies such as Progressive or Geico.
When searching for affordable auto insurance quotes, do not buy lower coverage limits just to save a few bucks. There have been many situations where someone dropped liability limits or collision coverage only to discover later that the savings was not a smart move. The goal is to purchase a proper amount of coverage at the best possible price while not skimping on critical coverages.
