- If you don’t have a lot of time, the easiest way to compare a lot of rates at once is a comparison rater form click here to open form in new window. This method prevents you from having to do separate quotes for every company. One form compares rates direct from many companies. This is by far the quickest method.
- A less efficient way to shop for insurance online consists of going to each company’s website to complete their respective quote request forms. For examples sake, let’s say you are doing a rate comparison from Liberty Mutual, Allstate and Travelers. You would need to navigate to each company’s site and repeatedly enter your information, which is why the first method is quicker. To view a list of companies in your area, click here.

Insurance agents can help
When choosing the right insurance coverage, there is no perfect coverage plan. Everyone’s situation is unique.
Here are some questions about coverages that can help discover whether your personal situation might need professional guidance.
- I have good health insurance, so how much medical payments coverage do I need?
- Do I need roadside assistance coverage?
- How much underlying liability do I need for an umbrella policy?
- Do I have any recourse if my insurance company denies a claim?
- Do I need to file an SR-22 for a DUI in my state?
- Should I put collision coverage on all my vehicles?
- Am I covered by my employer’s commercial auto policy when driving my personal car for business?
- Are my tools covered if they get stolen from my vehicle?
- Are my friends covered when driving my car?
If you’re not sure about those questions but one or more may apply to you, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, complete this form.
Car insurance policy coverages for a Chevy Lumina
Having a good grasp of your car insurance policy helps when choosing the best coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. Policy terminology can be ambiguous and reading a policy is terribly boring.
Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision) – This coverage will pay to fix damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You need to pay your deductible first then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive insurance covers claims such as theft, hitting a deer and vandalism. The maximum payout a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the cash value of the vehicle, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Auto liability – Liability insurance can cover damage that occurs to people or other property by causing an accident. It protects you from legal claims by others. It does not cover damage to your own property or vehicle.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You might see policy limits of 25/50/25 which stand for a limit of $25,000 per injured person, a limit of $50,000 in injury protection per accident, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property. Alternatively, you may have a combined single limit or CSL that pays claims from the same limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as attorney fees, medical services, legal defense fees, structural damage and funeral expenses. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is up to you, but consider buying as much as you can afford.
Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance – Your UM/UIM coverage provides protection from other drivers when they do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered losses include hospital bills for your injuries and damage to your Chevy Lumina.
Because many people only carry the minimum required liability limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is a good idea. Frequently these limits are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.
Insurance for medical payments – Med pay and PIP coverage kick in for bills for EMT expenses, pain medications, funeral costs and prosthetic devices. They are used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover both the driver and occupants as well as getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP is not an option in every state and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Collision – This coverage covers damage to your Lumina from colliding with an object or car. You have to pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision insurance covers claims like sideswiping another vehicle, colliding with another moving vehicle, damaging your car on a curb, backing into a parked car and sustaining damage from a pot hole. This coverage can be expensive, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. It’s also possible to increase the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
