Finding more affordable rates on auto insurance could be difficult for drivers who have little experience online price comparisons. Consumers have so many companies to choose from that it can easily become a lot of work to compare rates.
Smart consumers take time to quote other rates as often as possible due to the fact that insurance prices change frequently. Even if you got the best deal on Ram pickup coverage a couple years back there may be better deals available now. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about auto insurance because I’m going to teach you the things you must know in order to remove unneeded coverages and save money.
Cheapest insurance coverage quotes
Performing a rate comparison is a ton of work if you don’t know the most efficient way to do it. You can waste hours talking to insurance companies in your area, or you could save time and use the web to maximize your effort.
Most of the larger companies enroll in a system where insurance shoppers submit one quote, and each company can give them a price for coverage. This system prevents you from having to do quotation requests for each company you want a rate for.
To use this form to compare rates click here to start a free quote.
The one downside to using this type of system is you can’t choose the providers to get pricing from. If you would rather choose from a list of companies to request quotes from, we have a listing of companies who write insurance coverage in your area. Click here to view list.
Whichever method you choose, make sure you are using exactly the same quote information with every price quote. If you enter different coverage information it will be impossible to make a fair comparison for your Dodge Ram Pickup 2500. Just slight variations in insurance coverages may result in large price differences. And when comparing insurance coverage rates, know that comparing all the rates in your area will enable you to find the best offered rates.

Situations that may require an agent’s advice
When buying proper insurance coverage, there really is no perfect coverage plan. Everyone’s needs are different.
For instance, these questions can help discover whether or not you will benefit from professional help.
- Should I buy full coverage?
- Does my 2010 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 qualify for pleasure use?
- Do I need PIP coverage since I have good health insurance?
- Is my ex-spouse still covered by my policy?
- Why do I only qualify for high-risk insurance?
- When can I cancel my policy?
- Does my insurance cover damage caused when ticketed for reckless driving?
- Does my car insurance cover rental cars?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions but you know they apply to you, you may need to chat with a licensed agent. To find an agent in your area, complete this form.
What car insurance coverages do you need?
Having a good grasp of a car insurance policy can help you determine the right coverages for your vehicles. The terms used in a policy can be difficult to understand and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording.
Comprehensive insurance – Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You need to pay your deductible first and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive insurance covers things like hail damage, damage from a tornado or hurricane, damage from getting keyed, rock chips in glass and falling objects. The highest amount your car insurance company will pay is the ACV or actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) – Your UM/UIM coverage gives you protection when the “other guys” either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered losses include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Due to the fact that many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is important protection for you and your family. Normally these limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Collision – Collision coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage resulting from a collision with another car or object. You first must pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage pays for claims such as colliding with another moving vehicle, sideswiping another vehicle, crashing into a ditch, damaging your car on a curb and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. Another option is to bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance reimburse you for short-term medical expenses such as chiropractic care, doctor visits and ambulance fees. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers you and your occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is only offered in select states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Liability coverages – Liability coverage can cover damage or injury you incur to people or other property in an accident. This coverage protects you against claims from other people, and does not provide coverage for damage to your own property or vehicle.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You might see policy limits of 50/100/50 that means you have a limit of $50,000 per injured person, a limit of $100,000 in injury protection per accident, and a limit of $50,000 paid for damaged property. Some companies may use one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which provides one coverage limit rather than limiting it on a per person basis.
Liability insurance covers things like legal defense fees, emergency aid, repair bills for other people’s vehicles and funeral expenses. How much liability should you purchase? That is a decision to put some thought into, but buy as high a limit as you can afford.
