Trying to find cheaper car insurance rates for your Dodge Viper? Consumers that are new to comparing insurance coverage prices on the internet will discover locating low cost insurance is more work than they anticipated.
These discounts can lower your auto insurance rates
Auto insurance is neither fun to buy or cheap, but you might be missing out on some discounts that can help lower your rates. A few discounts will automatically apply when you quote, but lesser-known reductions have to be asked for before being credited. If you do not double check each discount you qualify for, you’re paying more than you need to.
- Resident Student – Children who are enrolled in a college that is more than 100 miles from home and do not take a car to college can receive lower rates.
- Claim-Free Discount – Insureds with no claims or accidents can earn big discounts as opposed to bad drivers.
- Drive Less and Save – Driving less could qualify for better rates on cars that stay parked.
- Government Employees – Employees or retirees of the government can earn a discount up to 10% for Viper insurance with certain companies.
- Telematics Discount – Drivers who agree to allow data collection to look at their driving habits remotely such as Drivewise from Allstate or Snapshot from Progressive might see lower rates as long as the data is positive.
- Auto/Life Discount – Not all companies offer life insurance, but some may give you a small discount if you purchase a life policy as well.
- Discount for Home Ownership – Being a homeowner can save a few bucks because owning a home is proof that your finances are in order.
- Military Rewards – Having a family member in the military can result in better auto insurance rates.
- Defensive Driver – Completing a defensive driving course can save you 5% or more and easily recoup the cost of the course.
It’s important to note that most credits do not apply to the entire policy premium. Most cut the cost of specific coverages such as comprehensive or collision. Despite the appearance that you could get a free auto insurance policy, you’re out of luck.
Popular auto insurance companies and a summarized list of policyholder discounts are shown below.
- State Farm has savings for Drive Safe & Save, anti-theft, driver’s education, safe vehicle, good driver, and multiple autos.
- Geico offers premium reductions for anti-lock brakes, multi-policy, federal employee, seat belt use, and defensive driver.
- Liberty Mutual policyholders can earn discounts including multi-car, hybrid vehicle, safety features, exclusive group savings, newly retired, preferred payment discount, and multi-policy.
- The Hartford has discounts for vehicle fuel type, driver training, bundle, good student, anti-theft, and defensive driver.
- MetLife discounts include good driver, defensive driver, claim-free, accident-free, multi-policy, good student
- Progressive offers discounts for multi-policy, homeowner, continuous coverage, good student, multi-vehicle, and online signing.

Different people need different insurance coverages
When choosing adequate coverage, there isn’t really a “best” method to buy coverage. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s.
Here are some questions about coverages that might point out if your insurance needs might need an agent’s assistance.
- Why do I need rental car insurance?
- Is my teen driver covered when they drive my company car?
- What is an SR-22 filing?
- What is covered by UM/UIM coverage?
- Is motorclub coverage worth it?
- Should I bundle my homeowners policy with my auto?
- Should I buy full coverage?
- Does medical payments coverage apply to all occupants?
- How can I get my company to pay me more for my totalled car?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions but one or more may apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to an agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, complete this form.
Auto insurance coverage information
Knowing the specifics of your policy helps when choosing which coverages you need and the correct deductibles and limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be confusing and nobody wants to actually read their policy.
Uninsured and underinsured coverage – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage protects you and your vehicle from other drivers when they do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered claims include injuries to you and your family and damage to your Dodge Viper.
Since a lot of drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. So UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked.
Collision coverage – Collision insurance covers damage to your Viper resulting from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision insurance covers claims such as driving through your garage door, damaging your car on a curb, crashing into a building, colliding with a tree and hitting a parking meter. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from older vehicles. Drivers also have the option to raise the deductible to bring the cost down.
Liability car insurance – Liability insurance can cover injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people. It protects YOU from legal claims by others. Liability doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. As an example, you may have liability limits of 50/100/50 which means $50,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, $100,000 for the entire accident, and a limit of $50,000 paid for damaged property.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as attorney fees, repair costs for stationary objects, medical services and repair bills for other people’s vehicles. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as large an amount as possible.
Comprehensive coverages – This pays for damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You need to pay your deductible first then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive coverage protects against things like vandalism, rock chips in glass, fire damage and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The highest amount you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Coverage for medical payments – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP pay for immediate expenses for things like dental work, ambulance fees, doctor visits, surgery and chiropractic care. They are often used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if you lack health insurance entirely. They cover not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants in addition to getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP is not an option in every state and may carry a deductible
Never pay more for less
As you restructure your insurance plan, do not reduce coverage to reduce premium. There are many occasions where drivers have reduced uninsured motorist or liability limits and found out when filing a claim that a couple dollars of savings turned into a financial nightmare. Your objective should be to buy the best coverage you can find at a price you can afford, but do not skimp to save money.
Consumers leave their current company for many reasons like high prices, high rates after DUI convictions, poor customer service and even unfair underwriting practices. Regardless of your reason, choosing a new company is not as difficult as it may seem.
We’ve covered some good ideas how to lower your 2009 Dodge Viper insurance car insurance rates. The most important thing to understand is the more companies you get premium rates for, the better likelihood of getting cheap insurance. You may even discover the lowest car insurance rates come from the least-expected company.
