Looking for better insurance rates for your FIAT 500? Having to pay for high-priced FIAT 500 insurance can eat up your family’s budget and put a big crunch on your finances. Doing a price comparison is a great way to lower your bills every month.
There are many auto insurance companies to buy insurance from, and even though it’s nice to have multiple companies, lots of choices makes it harder to get the best deal.
You should take the time to compare prices once or twice a year because prices tend to go up over time. Even if you think you had the best rate on 500 coverage last year other companies may now be cheaper. Block out anything you think you know about insurance because we’re going to show you one of the quickest ways to remove unneeded coverages and save money.
Buying car insurance is not that difficult. If you have car insurance now, you will most likely be able to cut costs considerably using these tips. But vehicle owners must comprehend how companies sell online and take advantage of how the system works.
How to get cheap car insurance
There are a lot of ways to shop for car insurance, but some are less labor-intensive and much quicker. You can waste hours discussing policy coverages with insurance companies in your area, or you can stay home and use the internet to accomplish the same thing much quicker.
The majority of car insurance companies are enrolled in a marketplace where prospective buyers submit their information once, and at least one company returns a competitive quote based on that data. This eliminates the need for quote requests for each company you want a rate for.
To fill out one form to compare multiple rates now click here (opens in new window).
The one disadvantage to using this type of form is that consumers can’t choose which companies to get quotes from. So if you want to select individual companies to request quotes from, we put together a list of the cheapest car insurance companies in your area. Click here for list of insurance companies.
It’s up to you which method you use, but double check that you are using identical quote information on every quote you get. If you enter different liability limits it will be nearly impossible to determine which rate is truly the best. Slightly different insurance coverages could mean much higher rates. Just keep in mind that getting more free quotes will increase your chances of finding the best price. Some regional insurers cannot provide prices over the internet, so you should also compare prices from those companies as well.

Car insurance ads are enticing
Well-known car insurance companies like Progressive, Geico, Allstate and State Farm regularly use ads on TV and radio. All the ads advertise claims about how much you will save just by moving to their company. How is it possible that every company can save you money? It’s all in the numbers.
Insurance companies have underwriting criteria for the type of driver that will not have excessive claims. For instance, a desirable risk should be between the ages of 40 and 55, has few claims, and drives less than 10,000 miles a year. A propective insured who matches those parameters will qualify for the lowest premium rates and have a good chance to save quite a bit of money when switching.
People who don’t measure up to the ideal profile will be quoted a higher premium which results in the customer buying from a different company. If you pay close attention to the ads, they say “customers who switch” not “everyone who quotes” save that much when switching. That is how insurance companies can confidently claim big savings. Because every company is different, you absolutely need to get auto insurance quotes from several different companies. It’s just too difficult to predict which company will provide the lowest auto insurance rates.
Informed drivers save more
Consumers need to have an understanding of the factors that are used to determine your policy premiums. When you know what positively or negatively positively or negatively impacts your premiums, this enables informed choices that may reward you with much lower annual insurance costs. Lots of things are used in the calculation when you get your auto insurance bill. Most are fairly basic like a motor vehicle report, but some are not quite as obvious like your continuous coverage or your vehicle rating.
- Cheaper rates after marriage – Being married actually saves money compared to being single. It may mean you are less irresponsible and statistics prove married couples file fewer claims.
- Premiums increase with driving tickets – Careful drivers get better rates than people who have multiple driving citations. Getting just one speeding ticket can increase rates to the point where it’s not affordable. Drivers unfortunate enough to have serious violations like DUI, reckless driving or excessive speeding may be required to file a SR-22 with the DMV in their state in order to continue driving.
- Rural areas have lower costs – Choosing to live in small towns and rural areas is a good thing when trying to find low car insurance rates. City drivers regularly have much more traffic and longer commutes to work. Less people translates into fewer accidents in addition to fewer liability claims.
- Prevent your car from being stolen – Purchasing a vehicle with anti-theft technology or alarm system can help lower your rates. Advanced theft deterrents like OnStar, LoJack tracking, and tamper alarms all help stop car theft and help bring rates down.
- Your credit rating is important – Having a good credit score is a big factor in your rate calculation. Drivers who have excellent credit tend to be more responsible and file fewer claims than drivers who have worse credit. If your credit is not that good, you could pay less to insure your 2015 FIAT 500 by taking the time to improve your credit score.
- Put fewer miles on your vehicle – Driving a lot of miles each year the more you’ll pay to insure your vehicle. Almost all companies price each vehicle’s coverage based upon how you use the vehicle. Autos used primarily for pleasure use receive lower rates as compared to vehicles used primarily for driving to work. Incorrect rating for your 500 can result in significantly higher rates. Double check that your declarations sheet correctly shows the correct usage.
- Coverage deductibles are a factor – Physical damage insurance, also called comprehensive and collision insurance, insures against damage to your FIAT. A few examples of covered claims are running into the backend of another car, hail damage, and windstorm damage. The deductibles you choose are how much you are required to spend out-of-pocket if a claim is determined to be covered. The more expense you pay before a claim is paid (deductible), the less money you will pay for car insurance on 500 coverage.
- Are women or men drivers cheaper? – Over the last 30 years, statistics show that men are more aggressive behind the wheel. The data does not necessarily mean that males are worse at driving than females. Men and women tend to get into at-fault accidents in similar numbers, but men cause more damage. Men also receive more costly citations such as reckless driving. Teenage male drivers cause the most accidents and therefore have the most expensive car insurance rates.
Auto insurance discounts are available to cut your rates
Companies that sell car insurance don’t list every possible discount in a way that’s easy to find, so the following list contains both well-publicized and the more hidden credits available to lower your premiums when you buy auto insurance online.
- Renewal Discounts – A few companies allow discounts for switching policies before your current policy expires. You could save around 10% when you buy auto insurance online.
- Multiple Vehicles – Insuring primary and secondary vehicles on one policy could earn a price break for each car.
- Discount for Life Insurance – Larger insurance carriers have a break if you buy life insurance from them.
- Accident Forgiveness Coverage – Not really a discount, but companies like Allstate and State Farm may permit one accident without raising rates with the catch being you have to be claim-free for a set time period.
- New Vehicle Savings – Buying insurance coverage on a new vehicle can be considerably cheaper due to better safety requirements for new vehicles.
- College Student – Children who live away from home to go to college and do not take a car to college may be able to be covered for less.
- Bundle and Save – If you can combine your auto and homeowners policy with the same insurance company you could get a discount of at least 10% off all policies.
- E-sign Discounts – A few larger online companies will provide an incentive for buying your policy online.
- Homeowners Discount – Owning a home may trigger a policy discount on auto insurance due to the fact that maintaining a home means you have a higher level of financial diligence.
- Memberships – Affiliation with a civic or occupational organization could trigger savings on your next renewal.
It’s important to note that most of the big mark downs will not be given to the overall cost of the policy. The majority will only reduce individual premiums such as collision or personal injury protection. Just because it seems like you could get a free auto insurance policy, it’s just not the way it works.
A few of the larger companies and some of the discounts are outlined below.
- State Farm may include discounts for Drive Safe & Save, anti-theft, passive restraint, student away at school, multiple policy, Steer Clear safe driver discount, and good student.
- Farmers Insurance offers discounts for distant student, early shopping, mature driver, multi-car, and bundle discounts.
- Progressive may offer discounts for multi-vehicle, online signing, continuous coverage, homeowner, and multi-policy.

Everyone needs different insurance coverages
When it comes to choosing adequate coverage, there really is no best way to insure your cars. Every situation is different and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. Here are some questions about coverages that may help highlight if your situation may require specific advice.
- Should I bundle my homeowners policy with my auto?
- Is my camper covered by my car insurance policy?
- Do I have coverage if my license is suspended?
- Does my policy cover me when driving someone else’s vehicle?
- When should I not file a claim?
- What if I owe more than I can insure my car for?
- Does insurance cover damages from a DUI accident?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions but one or more may apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies.
Car insurance 101
Having a good grasp of your insurance policy helps when choosing the best coverages and proper limits and deductibles. Insurance terms can be impossible to understand and coverage can change by endorsement. Shown next are typical coverages found on most insurance policies.
Uninsured or underinsured coverage – This coverage provides protection from other drivers when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered claims include hospital bills for your injuries and also any damage incurred to your FIAT 500.
Due to the fact that many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is a good idea.
Comprehensive protection – This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You need to pay your deductible first and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for things like theft, a tree branch falling on your vehicle and fire damage. The maximum amount your insurance company will pay is the ACV or actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Auto liability – This can cover damage that occurs to a person or their property in an accident. It protects you against claims from other people. It does not cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. Your policy might show limits of 100/300/100 that translate to a $100,000 limit per person for injuries, $300,000 for the entire accident, and a limit of $100,000 paid for damaged property.
Liability can pay for claims such as emergency aid, attorney fees and structural damage. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is your choice, but consider buying as high a limit as you can afford.
Collision – This will pay to fix damage to your 500 resulting from a collision with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You first must pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage protects against things such as rolling your car, colliding with another moving vehicle, hitting a mailbox and damaging your car on a curb. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so you might think about dropping it from older vehicles. It’s also possible to choose a higher deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Medical expense coverage – Med pay and PIP coverage reimburse you for short-term medical expenses like hospital visits, dental work, prosthetic devices, doctor visits and ambulance fees. The coverages can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if you do not have health coverage. It covers both the driver and occupants in addition to if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal Injury Protection is only offered in select states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Never pay more for less
When you buy auto insurance online, don’t be tempted to reduce coverage to reduce premium. In many instances, someone dropped uninsured motorist or liability limits only to regret that the few dollars in savings costed them thousands. The ultimate goal is to purchase a proper amount of coverage at the best cost while still protecting your assets.
In this article, we covered a lot of techniques to shop for 2015 FIAT 500 insurance online. The key concept to understand is the more quotes you get, the more likely it is that you will get a better rate. You may be surprised to find that the lowest premium rates are with a small mutual company. These smaller insurers may only write in your state and offer lower prices than their larger competitors like State Farm and Allstate.
