Searching for cheaper car insurance rates for your Ford Bronco? No one in their right mind looks forward to buying car insurance, especially when they know they are paying too much. Companies like Geico and Progressive promote their brand names with fancy advertisements and it is challenging if not impossible to see past the geckos and flying pigs and take the time to shop coverage around.
Shop car insurance online
Comparing car insurance rates can take hours if you don’t understand the most efficient way. You could spend the better part of a day driving to local insurance agents in your area, or you can stay home and use the web to maximize your effort.
Many companies participate in an industry program where prospective buyers send in one quote, and each participating company can give them a price based on that information. This eliminates the need for quotation requests to each company.
To compare rates using this form now click here (opens in new window).
The one downside to doing it this way is that consumers can’t choose the companies you want to price. If you prefer to choose specific providers for rate comparison, we have assembled a list of companies who write car insurance in your area. Click to view list.
However you get your quotes, make darn sure you compare nearly identical coverage data for every quote you compare. If the quotes have different values for each quote it’s impossible to decipher which rate is best.

Informed decisions result in lower insurance rates
An important part of buying insurance is that you know some of the things that aid in calculating your premiums. When consumers understand what determines base rates, this empowers consumers to make smart changes that may reward you with big savings.
- Age of drivers – Inexperience drivers are statistically shown to be inattentive and easily distracted when at the wheel of a vehicle so they pay higher insurance rates. Older insureds are more responsible, cost insurance companies less in claims and receive fewer citations.
- Eliminate incidental coverages – There are many add-on coverages that can add up if you aren’t careful. Coverage for things like rental car reimbursement, towing, and additional equipment coverage may not be needed and are just wasting money. These may sound like a good investment initially, but if you have no use for them eliminate them to save money.
- Better rates on safer vehicles – Vehicles that have high safety ratings are cheaper to insure. Vehicles built for safety reduce the chance of injuries and lower injury rates translates directly to fewer claims passed on to you as lower rates. If your Ford Bronco earned at least an “acceptable” rating on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety website it is probably cheaper to insure.
- Insurance companies don’t like frequent insurance claims – Auto insurance companies give the best rates to insureds who do not file claims often. If you file a lot of claims you can pretty much guarantee increased rates or even have your policy non-renewed. Auto insurance is designed for larger claims.
- Low stress job equals lower prices – Did you know your occupation can influence how much you pay for insurance? Occupational choices like doctors, architects and medical professionals tend to pay higher premiums than the average policyholder attributed to intense work requirements and lots of time spent at work. On the flip side, occupations like farmers, engineers and performers have the lowest average rates for Bronco coverage.
- Do males or females drive better? – Over the last 50 years, statistics have shown females are less aggressive when driving. Now that doesn’t mean women are better drivers. Women and men tend to get into fender benders at a similar rate, but the males have costlier accidents. In addition to higher claims, males also receive more major tickets like driving under the influence (DUI).
- Improve your credit rating – Having a bad credit score is a large factor in determining your rates. So if your credit history is lower than you’d like, you could pay less to insure your 1996 Ford Bronco by repairing your credit. Insureds with high credit scores tend to be more responsible than drivers who have lower ratings.
You may qualify for discounts
Auto insurance companies don’t always publicize every discount very well, so we researched a few of the more well known as well as the least known discounts that may be available.
- Resident Student – Kids who live away from home at college and don’t have a car may be able to be covered for less.
- Discount for Swiching Early – Select insurance companies give a discount for signing up before your current policy expires. You may see this discount when you get insurance quotes online.
- Membership in Organizations – Belonging to qualifying employment or professional organizations could qualify you for a break on your next renewal.
- Driver Training Discounts – Taking time to complete a course that instructs on driving safety can save you 5% or more if your company offers it.
- Discount for Home Ownership – Owning a home can earn you a little savings because it demonstrates responsibility.
- Include Life Insurance and Save – Larger insurance companies have a small discount if you purchase a life policy as well.
- Good Student – Performing well in school can earn a discount of 20% or more. This discount can apply until age 25.
- Accident-Free Discounts – Drivers with accident-free driving histories pay much less in comparison to drivers who are more careless.
- Federal Employees – Being employed by or retired from a federal job may qualify for a discount when you quote insurance for Bronco coverage with certain companies.
We need to note that most credits do not apply to your bottom line cost. The majority will only reduce specific coverage prices like liability and collision coverage. Just because you may think all the discounts add up to a free policy, companies don’t profit that way. Any amount of discount will help lower the cost of coverage.

There’s no such thing as the perfect insurance policy
When it comes to buying the right insurance coverage, there isn’t really a “best” method to buy coverage. Everyone’s situation is unique and your policy should reflect that. Here are some questions about coverages that can help discover whether your personal situation would benefit from an agent’s advice.
- How much underlying liability do I need for an umbrella policy?
- When should I drop full coverage on my 1996 Ford Bronco?
- Will my vehicle be repaired with OEM or aftermarket parts?
- Does my policy cover my teen driver if they drive my company car?
- Is my cargo covered for damage or theft?
- Exactly who is provided coverage by my policy?
If you’re not sure about those questions then you might want to talk to an agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form or click here for a list of insurance companies in your area. It’s fast, free and may give you better protection.

Insurance coverage basics
Having a good grasp of insurance helps when choosing the best coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be confusing and coverage can change by endorsement. Shown next are the normal coverages found on most insurance policies.
Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision)
Comprehensive insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against things like fire damage, a broken windshield and rock chips in glass. The maximum amount you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Liability car insurance
This coverage provides protection from injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU from legal claims by others. It does not cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You commonly see limits of 25/50/25 that means you have $25,000 bodily injury coverage, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a total limit of $25,000 for damage to vehicles and property.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as legal defense fees, repair costs for stationary objects and attorney fees. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as large an amount as possible.
Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance
This protects you and your vehicle from other motorists when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries and damage to your Ford Bronco.
Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is very important.
Collision protection
Collision insurance pays for damage to your Bronco resulting from a collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. You first must pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage protects against claims like hitting a mailbox, sustaining damage from a pot hole, hitting a parking meter, damaging your car on a curb and colliding with another moving vehicle. This coverage can be expensive, so you might think about dropping it from older vehicles. It’s also possible to raise the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Insurance for medical payments
Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP reimburse you for expenses like hospital visits, ambulance fees, funeral costs and X-ray expenses. They are often used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you are not covered by health insurance. They cover both the driver and occupants and also covers being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP is not an option in every state and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Stretch your dollar
Cheaper 1996 Ford Bronco insurance is attainable both online as well as from independent agents, and you should be comparing both to get a complete price analysis. There are still a few companies who do not offer online rate quotes and usually these smaller companies only sell through independent insurance agents.
When trying to cut insurance costs, never reduce coverage to reduce premium. In too many instances, an accident victim reduced liability coverage limits and found out when filing a claim that it was a big error on their part. The goal is to buy a smart amount of coverage at the best possible price, but don’t skip important coverages to save money.
