Buying the lowest price auto insurance may at first seem to be rather difficult for beginners to shopping for insurance on the internet. With such a large choice of online companies, how are we expected to have a chance to compare each option to find the cheapest available price?
Consumers need to get comparison quotes before your policy renews because auto insurance prices are adjusted regularly by insurance companies. If you had the best rates for Pilot insurance on your last policy you may be paying too much now. Block out anything you think you know about auto insurance because you’re about to find out the best methods to reduce your cost while improving coverage.
Locating more affordable insurance coverage is not that difficult. Essentially everyone who is shopping for insurance will more than likely be able to cut their insurance bill. But consumers need to learn how companies compete online because it can help you find the best coverage.
First Step: Get free insurance quotes
Performing a rate comparison is a ton of work if you don’t know the best way to get rate quotes. You can waste a few hours (or days) discussing policy coverages with insurance companies in your area, or you could save time and use the web to get prices fast.
Most of the larger companies participate in an industry program that enables customers to only type in their quote data once, and each participating company can provide price quotes. This saves time by eliminating quotation requests to each company.

The only downside to using this type of system is you are unable to specify the insurers you want to price. So if you want to select specific providers for rate comparison, we have a page of low cost insurance companies in your area. View list of insurance companies.
The approach you take is up to you, just make sure you compare apples-to-apples deductibles and coverage limits for each comparison quote. If you are comparing different liability limits it will be very difficult to determine the lowest rate for your Honda Pilot. Just slight variations in limits could mean much higher rates. And when comparison shopping, having more price comparisons will improve the odds of getting a lower rate than you’re paying now.

Will just any policy work for me?
When choosing coverage for your vehicles, there really is not a “best” method to buy coverage. Everyone’s situation is unique.
These are some specific questions could help you determine if your situation will benefit from professional help.
- If my 2007 Honda Pilot is totaled, can I afford another vehicle?
- Should I file a claim if it’s only slightly more than my deductible?
- How can I find cheaper teen driver insurance?
- Am I covered when delivering products for my home-based business?
- Will I lose any money if I cancel my policy before it expires?
- Can I rent a car in Mexico?
- Am I getting all the discounts available?
- Is my dog or cat covered if injured in an accident?
If you’re not sure about those questions, then you may want to think about talking to a licensed agent. To find an agent in your area, fill out this quick form.
Car insurance 101
Learning about specific coverages of your policy can help you determine the right coverages for your vehicles. The coverage terms in a policy can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring.
Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance reimburse you for immediate expenses like nursing services, rehabilitation expenses and surgery. They are used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. They cover you and your occupants as well as any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not universally available and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Coverage for collisions
Collision insurance pays for damage to your Pilot from colliding with an object or car. You first must pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision can pay for claims like colliding with a tree, hitting a mailbox, rolling your car, sustaining damage from a pot hole and crashing into a building. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are older. Another option is to increase the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Comprehensive insurance
This will pay to fix damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You need to pay your deductible first and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for things such as falling objects, theft and damage from getting keyed. The maximum amount you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider dropping full coverage.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)
This provides protection from other motorists when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. This coverage pays for injuries to you and your family and also any damage incurred to your Honda Pilot.
Since a lot of drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, their limits can quickly be used up. So UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Most of the time these limits are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.
Coverage for liability
Liability insurance provides protection from damages or injuries you inflict on people or other property by causing an accident. It protects you against claims from other people, and does not provide coverage for damage to your own property or vehicle.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You might see values of 25/50/25 which stand for a limit of $25,000 per injured person, $50,000 for the entire accident, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property. Some companies may use a combined limit which combines the three limits into one amount without having the split limit caps.
Liability insurance covers things like attorney fees, pain and suffering, medical services, court costs and bail bonds. How much coverage you buy is your choice, but you should buy as high a limit as you can afford.
