Looking for better car insurance rates for your Honda S2000? Being forced to pay for high-priced car insurance premiums can bleed your checking account and put the squeeze on your family’s finances. Since you have so many companies to choose from, it can be impossible to find the best car insurance company.
Consumers should take time to shop coverage around periodically because car insurance rates go up and down regularly. Even if you got the best rate on S2000 coverage at your last renewal a different company probably has better prices today. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about car insurance because you’re about to learn the fastest way to remove unneeded coverages and save money.
Do you qualify for discounts?
Insurance is not inexpensive, but companies offer discounts to reduce the price significantly. Many of these discounts will be applied automatically at the time of purchase, but some need to be asked for prior to getting the savings.
- Senior Citizen Rates – If you’re over the age of 55, you could receive a small decrease in premiums on S2000 coverage.
- Drivers Ed for Students – It’s a good idea to have your young drivers complete a driver education course if offered at their school.
- Service Members Pay Less – Having an actively deployed family member may qualify for rate reductions.
- Multi-car Discount – Drivers who insure multiple vehicles on a single policy can get a discount on all vehicles.
- New Vehicle Savings – Buying coverage on a new vehicle can cost up to 25% less because newer models are generally safer.
- Full Payment Discount – If you can afford to pay the entire bill instead of paying each month you could save up to 5%.
- Student Discounts – Performing well in school can save 20 to 25%. The discount lasts until age 25.
As a footnote on discounts, some of the credits will not apply to all coverage premiums. Most only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like medical payments or collision. So even though you would think all those discounts means the company will pay you, you won’t be that lucky.
A list of companies and the discounts they provide can be found below.
- Progressive policyholders can earn discounts including online quote discount, good student, continuous coverage, online signing, and multi-policy.
- SAFECO offers premium reductions for teen safety rewards, homeowner, safe driver, bundle discounts, anti-lock brakes, multi-car, and teen safe driver.
- American Family has discounts for bundled insurance, good student, defensive driver, good driver, air bags, mySafetyValet, and early bird.
- MetLife offers discounts including claim-free, good student, good driver, accident-free, defensive driver, multi-policy
- Geico discounts include anti-theft, defensive driver, driver training, membership and employees, air bags, military active duty, and multi-vehicle.
- The Hartford includes discounts for anti-theft, vehicle fuel type, air bag, defensive driver, and bundle.
Before you buy a policy, ask each company how many discounts you can get. Some of the earlier mentioned discounts may not apply to policies in every state. To choose insurance companies that provide some of the discounts listed above, follow this link.

Don’t assume everyone needs the same auto insurance coverage
When buying the best auto insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is no single plan that fits everyone. Every situation is different and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. For example, these questions can help discover whether you would benefit from professional advice.
- What is the difference between comprehensive and collision coverage?
- Does coverage extend to Mexico or Canada?
- Do I have any recourse if my insurance company denies a claim?
- Why is insurance for a teen driver so high?
- How do I file an SR-22 for a DUI in my state?
- What is covered by UM/UIM coverage?
- What vehicles should carry emergency assistance coverage?
- I have good health insurance, so how much medical payments coverage do I need?
If you can’t answer these questions then you might want to talk to an agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, simply complete this short form or click here for a list of auto insurance companies in your area. It is quick, free and may give you better protection.
Insurance specifics
Knowing the specifics of your policy can be of help when determining the right coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. Policy terminology can be confusing and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording. Shown next are typical coverage types found on most insurance policies.
Medical expense coverage – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage kick in for expenses such as doctor visits, ambulance fees, surgery, dental work and pain medications. They are used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance plan or if you do not have health coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover all vehicle occupants and also covers getting struck while a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is only offered in select states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Comprehensive protection – Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage that is not covered by collision coverage. A deductible will apply then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for things like hitting a deer, vandalism, a tree branch falling on your vehicle, damage from a tornado or hurricane and damage from getting keyed. The highest amount you’ll receive from a claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Liability coverage – This coverage protects you from damage that occurs to a person or their property in an accident. It protects you against other people’s claims. Liability doesn’t cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. You commonly see values of 25/50/25 which means $25,000 bodily injury coverage, $50,000 for the entire accident, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property.
Liability coverage pays for claims like repair costs for stationary objects, emergency aid, legal defense fees and medical expenses. How much liability should you purchase? That is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as much as you can afford.
Uninsured or underinsured coverage – This protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other drivers when they do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered claims include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and also any damage incurred to your 2007 Honda S2000.
Since many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their limits can quickly be used up. So UM/UIM coverage is very important.
Collision – This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage resulting from a collision with an object or car. You have to pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision coverage protects against claims such as driving through your garage door, colliding with a tree, sustaining damage from a pot hole, colliding with another moving vehicle and scraping a guard rail. This coverage can be expensive, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are older. Drivers also have the option to choose a higher deductible to bring the cost down.
Get your money’s worth
As you prepare to switch companies, you should never buy less coverage just to save a little money. In many instances, someone sacrificed full coverage only to regret at claim time that the small savings ended up costing them much more. The ultimate goal is to buy the best coverage you can find at the best price while not skimping on critical coverages.
Cheaper insurance can be found from both online companies in addition to many insurance agents, so you need to shop insurance coverage with both to have the best chance of lowering rates. Some insurance providers don’t offer price quotes online and usually these regional insurance providers only sell coverage through local independent agents.
