Want the cheapest car insurance rates for your Lexus RX 450h? Do you get exhausted from scraping nickels together to pay car insurance each month? You are in the same boat as the majority of other drivers. Online insurance companies like State Farm, Farmers Insurance, Geico and Allstate increase brand awareness with fancy advertisements and it is difficult to see through the deception and find the best price available.
If you have insurance now or are looking for a new policy, you can learn to shop for the lowest rates and still get good coverage. Finding affordable coverage is not that difficult. Drivers just need to learn how to buy car insurance over the internet.
How to shop auto insurance online
Shopping for lower auto insurance rates is a ton of work if you don’t utilize the most efficient way to do it. You can waste a few hours (or days) talking about coverages with agents in your area, or you can stay home and use online quoting to get pricing more quickly.
Many popular insurance companies belong to an insurance system that allows shoppers to enter their coverage request one time, and every company can give them a price determined by their information. This eliminates the need for repetitive form submissions to each company. To compare pricing click to open in new window.
The only downside to pricing coverage this way is you don’t know exactly the providers you will receive quotes from. If you prefer to choose individual companies to compare, we have assembled a list of the cheapest auto insurance companies in your area. Click here to view list.
Whichever way you use, try to use exactly the same deductibles and coverage limits with each company. If you have different liability limits it will be next to impossible to determine the lowest rate for your Lexus RX 450h.

Save money by taking advantage of discounts
Some providers don’t always advertise all disounts in a way that’s easy to find, so we took the time to find both the well known as well as the least known auto insurance savings. If you are not receiving all the discounts you qualify for, you’re paying more than you need to.
- Seat Belt Usage – Using a seat belt and requiring all passengers to use their safety belts can save up to 10 percent (depending on the company) on medical payment and PIP coverage.
- College Student Discount – Any of your kids living away from home attending college without a vehicle on campus may be able to be covered for less.
- Passive Restraint Discount – Options like air bags can receive discounts as much as 30%.
- Policy Bundle Discount – When you combine your homeowners and auto insurance with one insurance company you may earn over 10 percent off each policy depending on the company.
- Save with a New Car – Insuring a vehicle that is new can save you some money since newer models are generally safer.
Discounts reduce rates, but you should keep in mind that some of the credits will not apply to the entire policy premium. Most only reduce individual premiums such as liability, collision or medical payments. So despite the fact that it appears having all the discounts means you get insurance for free, company stockholders wouldn’t be very happy.
A few of the larger companies and some of their more popular discounts include:
- State Farm may have discounts that include passive restraint, Steer Clear safe driver discount, anti-theft, multiple autos, good student, student away at school, and driver’s education.
- Progressive includes discounts for online quote discount, multi-policy, multi-vehicle, homeowner, online signing, good student, and continuous coverage.
- Progressive offers discounts including multi-vehicle, online signing, homeowner, good student, continuous coverage, and multi-policy.
- MetLife offers premium reductions for good student, accident-free, good driver, multi-policy, defensive driver, claim-free
- Farm Bureau may include discounts for youthful driver, 55 and retired, multi-policy, multi-vehicle, and good student.
- Geico has savings for multi-policy, driver training, military active duty, membership and employees, good student, federal employee, and daytime running lights.
- SAFECO policyholders can earn discounts including safe driver, bundle discounts, teen safe driver, anti-theft, homeowner, and accident prevention training.
If you are trying to find inexpensive insurance coverage quotes, ask every company which discounts can lower your rates. Some of the earlier mentioned discounts may not apply everywhere. If you would like to view companies who offer auto insurance discounts, follow this link.
How much insurance do I need?
When it comes to choosing adequate coverage, there really is not a one size fits all plan. Everyone’s situation is unique and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. Here are some questions about coverages that may help highlight whether your personal situation may require specific advice.
- Am I covered when using my vehicle for business?
- I have health insurance so do I need medical payments coverage?
- Is my business laptop covered if it gets stolen from my vehicle?
- Is business equipment covered while in my vehicle?
- Can my babysitter drive my car?
- When does my teenage driver need to be added to my policy?
- How much can I save by bundling my policies?
- Do I need PIP coverage since I have good health insurance?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions, then you may want to think about talking to an insurance agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, take a second and complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies. It is quick, free and can help protect your family.
Coverages available on your policy
Knowing the specifics of insurance helps when choosing which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. Insurance terms can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement. Shown next are the usual coverages found on the average insurance policy.
Medical expense insurance – Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance provide coverage for expenses like nursing services, ambulance fees, funeral costs, chiropractic care and doctor visits. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers all vehicle occupants as well as any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not available in all states and may carry a deductible
Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection when the “other guys” do not carry enough liability coverage. This coverage pays for medical payments for you and your occupants as well as damage to your 2015 Lexus RX 450h.
Because many people have only the minimum liability required by law, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is very important. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.
Comprehensive (Other than Collision) – Comprehensive insurance coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You first must pay your deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive can pay for things like falling objects, a broken windshield, damage from flooding, damage from getting keyed and hitting a deer. The most you’ll receive from a claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Collision – This will pay to fix damage to your RX 450h caused by collision with another car or object. You have to pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage pays for claims like crashing into a building, crashing into a ditch and damaging your car on a curb. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so you might think about dropping it from vehicles that are 8 years or older. It’s also possible to bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Coverage for liability – This will cover damage or injury you incur to people or other property that is your fault. It protects you from claims by other people. Liability doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. Your policy might show values of 100/300/100 which means a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a total limit of $100,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Alternatively, you may have one number which is a combined single limit which provides one coverage limit without having the split limit caps.
Liability coverage pays for things such as loss of income, medical expenses and structural damage. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but consider buying as large an amount as possible.
