Trying to find cheaper auto insurance rates for your Mazda MPV? I can’t think of a single person who gets a kick out of paying for auto insurance, particularly when they are paying too much. Insurance companies such as State Farm, Allstate, Geico and Progressive all claim big savings, bombarding you with catchy ads and it is difficult to separate fact from fiction and do the work needed to find the best deal.
The easiest way to get rate comparisons is to take advantage of the fact most larger insurance companies allow for online access to provide you with a free rate quote. To start a quote, the only thing you need to do is provide details including your occupation, if you went to college, if you have a valid license, and how many miles driven. The rating information is automatically sent to insurance companies and they return rate quotes quickly.

- What is an SR-22 filing?
- If my pet gets injured in an accident are they covered?

Car insurance 101
Learning about specific coverages of a car insurance policy can help you determine which coverages you need at the best deductibles and correct limits. Car insurance terms can be impossible to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy. Listed below are typical coverages found on most car insurance policies.
Uninsured and underinsured coverage
Your UM/UIM coverage gives you protection from other motorists when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include hospital bills for your injuries as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Because many people carry very low liability coverage limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Most of the time these coverages do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Coverage for medical payments
Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP reimburse you for bills like pain medications, nursing services, prosthetic devices, EMT expenses and funeral costs. The coverages can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. They cover you and your occupants in addition to being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP coverage is not universally available and may carry a deductible
Comprehensive coverages
Comprehensive insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You need to pay your deductible first and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive insurance covers things like hitting a deer, damage from getting keyed, damage from a tornado or hurricane, a broken windshield and hail damage. The most your car insurance company will pay is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Liability insurance
This coverage can cover damage that occurs to people or other property by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU from claims by other people. Liability doesn’t cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You commonly see policy limits of 100/300/100 that means you have a $100,000 limit per person for injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $300,000, and a limit of $100,000 paid for damaged property. Alternatively, you may have one number which is a combined single limit which limits claims to one amount and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability can pay for things such as legal defense fees, emergency aid, attorney fees and medical expenses. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but you should buy as much as you can afford.
Collision insurance
This pays for damage to your MPV resulting from colliding with an object or car. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision insurance covers things like damaging your car on a curb, scraping a guard rail, crashing into a ditch and rolling your car. This coverage can be expensive, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. Another option is to choose a higher deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
