Want lower insurance coverage rates for your Mercedes-Benz SL-Class? When searching for more affordable insurance, do you get overwhelmed by the crazy number of insurance coverage providers? drivers have so many choices that it can turn into a real hassle to locate the lowest premium rates.
You may qualify for discounts
Companies offering auto insurance don’t always advertise all possible discounts very clearly, so the list below contains both the well known and the harder-to-find credits available to you. If you are not receiving all the discounts you deserve, you may be paying too high a price.
- 55 and Retired – Older drivers can get better auto insurance rates for SL-Class coverage.
- Multi-policy Discount – If you can bundle your home and auto insurance and insure them with the same company they may give you a discount of approximately 10% to 15%.
- Data Collection Discounts – Policyholders that allow their insurance company to look at their driving habits by installing a telematics device such as State Farm’s In-Drive could see a rate decrease as long as they are good drivers.
- More Vehicles More Savings – Insuring several vehicles with the same company can get a discount on all vehicles.
- Professional Organizations – Affiliation with certain professional organizations can get you a small discount on your next renewal.
- Discount for Low Mileage – Keeping the miles down on your Mercedes-Benz may enable drivers to earn substantially lower rates.
As is typical with insurance, most credits do not apply to the entire cost. The majority will only reduce specific coverage prices like comp or med pay. Just because you may think you could get a free auto insurance policy, companies don’t profit that way. But all discounts should help reduce the cost of your policy.
A list of auto insurance companies and a selection of discounts can be read below.
- Geico may offer discounts for multi-policy, defensive driver, driver training, membership and employees, anti-lock brakes, and air bags.
- MetLife offers discounts including good student, multi-policy, defensive driver, accident-free, and good driver.
- Progressive offers discounts for online quote discount, continuous coverage, good student, multi-policy, online signing, and multi-vehicle.
- Travelers offers premium reductions for hybrid/electric vehicle, home ownership, good student, IntelliDrive, and early quote.
- SAFECO has savings for accident prevention training, teen safety rewards, safe driver, homeowner, and multi-car.

There’s no such thing as the perfect auto insurance policy
When buying coverage for your personal vehicles, there isn’t really a perfect coverage plan. Everyone’s needs are different.
For example, these questions might point out if you might need professional guidance.
- What is the ISO rating for a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class?
- Can I rent a car in Mexico?
- When does my teenage driver need to be added to my policy?
- What is the rate difference between pleasure use and commuting?
- How much can I save by bundling my policies?
- Is my custom paint covered by insurance?
- Is business property covered if stolen from my car?
- Should I drop comprehensive coverage on older vehicles?
- Can I pay claims out-of-pocket if I buy high deductibles?
- Does car insurance cover theft of personal property?
If you’re not sure about those questions, you may need to chat with a licensed insurance agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, complete this form.
Switch companies and save? Really?
Respected companies like State Farm and Allstate regularly use ads in print and on television. They all make an identical promise about how much you will save just by moving your policy. How can each company charge lower premium rates? It’s all in the numbers.
Many companies quote the lowest rates for the type of driver that earns them a profit. For example, this type of driver might be over age 30, has a clear driving record, and has great credit. Any new insured who fits those characteristics will most likely get cheap prices and have a good chance to save some money.
Potential insureds who do not fit this stringent profile will get a higher rate and ends up with the customer not buying. The ad wording is “people who switch” but not “all drivers who get quotes” save that much money. That’s why insurance companies can confidently make those claims.
Each company has different criteria, so you should compare many company’s rates. Because without a comparison, you cannot know which company will fit you best based on your risk profile.
Specific coverages for a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
Understanding the coverages of insurance can be of help when determining which coverages you need at the best deductibles and correct limits. Policy terminology can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring.
Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP pay for short-term medical expenses like X-ray expenses, EMT expenses and surgery. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. Coverage applies to not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and will also cover getting struck while a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not universally available but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Collision – Collision insurance covers damage to your SL-Class resulting from a collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage pays for things such as hitting a parking meter, damaging your car on a curb, backing into a parked car, sideswiping another vehicle and colliding with another moving vehicle. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so you might think about dropping it from vehicles that are 8 years or older. Drivers also have the option to choose a higher deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) – This coverage provides protection when other motorists do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered losses include injuries to you and your family as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Since many drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, their limits can quickly be used up. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Frequently the UM/UIM limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Comprehensive insurance – This coverage covers damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. A deductible will apply and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for things such as falling objects, damage from a tornado or hurricane, hail damage and a tree branch falling on your vehicle. The maximum amount a insurance company will pay at claim time is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider dropping full coverage.
Liability insurance – This can cover damage that occurs to other’s property or people by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU against claims from other people. It does not cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. As an example, you may have liability limits of 25/50/25 that translate to $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $50,000, and a total limit of $25,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Alternatively, you may have one limit called combined single limit (CSL) that pays claims from the same limit without having the split limit caps.
Liability coverage pays for things such as emergency aid, medical services and bail bonds. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but consider buying as high a limit as you can afford.

Cheaper insurance is a realistic goal
When trying to cut insurance costs, never reduce coverage to reduce premium. Too many times, consumers will sacrifice full coverage to discover at claim time that saving that couple of dollars actually costed them tens of thousands. The ultimate goal is to get the best coverage possible at the best cost.
Drivers leave their current company for any number of reasons including delays in paying claims, policy non-renewal, lack of trust in their agent or not issuing a premium refund. Whatever your reason, finding a new company is not as difficult as it may seem.
Discount 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class insurance can be bought on the web in addition to many insurance agents, and you need to price shop both to have the best selection. Some insurance companies may not provide online price quotes and usually these smaller providers work with independent agents.
