This information will let you in on how to get online quotes and some money-saving tips. If you currently have a car insurance policy, you will most likely be able to lower your premiums substantially using these techniques. Drivers just need to understand the proper methods to compare price quotes over the internet.
Car insurance discounts are available to lower your rates
Companies that sell car insurance don’t always advertise every disount available very clearly, so below is a list a few of the more well known and also the lesser-known credits available to you.
- Early Renewal Discounts – Some car insurance companies give discounts for switching to them prior to the expiration date on your current policy. The savings is around 10%.
- Theft Deterent – Vehicles that have factory alarm systems and tracking devices are stolen less frequently and therefore earn up to a 10% discount.
- Multi-line Discount – Not all car insurance companies offer life insurance, but some may give you better prices if you take out life insurance from them.
- Waiver for an Accident – Not really a discount, but certain companies will turn a blind eye to one accident without raising rates as long as you don’t have any claims prior to the accident.
- ABS and Traction Control Discounts – Cars, trucks, and SUVs with ABS braking systems or traction control have fewer accidents so companies give up to a 10% discount.
- Good Driver Discount – Drivers who avoid accidents may save up to 50% more for Titan insurance than drivers with accident claims.
- Air Bag Discount – Cars that have air bags or motorized seat belts may qualify for discounts of 20 to 30 percent.
- Driving Data Discount – Drivers who agree to allow their company to analyze their driving habits by using a small device installed in their vehicle such as Allstate’s Drivewise and State Farm’s In-Drive system might see lower rates if they have good driving habits.
- Defensive Driver Discounts – Passing a defensive driver course could cut 5% off your bill if your company offers it.
It’s important to understand that most discount credits are not given to your bottom line cost. Some only reduce specific coverage prices like comprehensive or collision. Even though it may seem like you would end up receiving a 100% discount, you aren’t that lucky.
A list of companies and their possible discounts can be read below.
- Geico may include discounts for defensive driver, multi-vehicle, emergency military deployment, seat belt use, air bags, and daytime running lights.
- Travelers may offer discounts for continuous insurance, early quote, home ownership, driver training, good student, and multi-car.
- Nationwide may have discounts that include good student, accident-free, multi-policy, anti-theft, family plan, and defensive driving.
- Farmers Insurance offers premium reductions for teen driver, mature driver, alternative fuel, pay in full, distant student, and early shopping.
- Esurance includes discounts for defensive driver, online quote, homeowner, online shopper, claim free, and DriveSense.
- State Farm offers discounts for safe vehicle, driver’s education, multiple policy, defensive driving training, Steer Clear safe driver discount, good driver, and good student.
- Progressive has savings for homeowner, online quote discount, continuous coverage, online signing, and multi-vehicle.
- Mercury Insurance policyholders can earn discounts including multi-policy, annual mileage, anti-theft, low natural disaster claims, and age of vehicle.
When getting a coverage quote, ask each company or agent which discounts you qualify for. Some discounts listed above might not be offered on policies everywhere. If you would like to see a list of car insurance companies who offer free car insurance quotes, follow this link.

Everyone needs different car insurance coverages
When it comes to buying the right insurance coverage, there really is no one size fits all plan. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs.
For instance, these questions could help you determine if you might need an agent’s assistance.
- Does coverage extend to my business vehicle?
- Is there coverage for injuries to my pets?
- Is rental equipment covered for theft or damage?
- Should I have a commercial auto policy?
- Do I have coverage if my license is suspended?
- Do I have any recourse if my insurance company denies a claim?
- Do I benefit by insuring my home with the same company?
- Am I covered when using my vehicle for business?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions, then you may want to think about talking to an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, fill out this quick form. It is quick, free and can provide invaluable advice.
Are you falling for claims of savings?
Consumers can’t ignore all the ads for the lowest price insurance from companies such as Allstate, Geico and Progressive. They all seem to advertise claims about savings if you change your coverage to them.
That’s great but how can every company make almost identical claims?
All the different companies have specific characteristics for the right customer that will not have excessive claims. An example of a desirable insured may need to be between the ages of 30 and 50, has never had a claim, and has great credit. Any new insured that meets those criteria is entitled to the best price and is almost guaranteed to cut their rates substantially.
Insureds who do not meet the ideal profile may be forced to pay higher premium rates and business going elsewhere. The ad wording is “drivers that switch” not “everyone who quotes” save that kind of money. That’s the way companies can make claims like that.
This illustrates why it is so important to get as many free auto insurance quotes as possible. It’s just not possible to know which insurance companies will have better premium rates than you’re paying now.
Insurance coverages 101
Knowing the specifics of your policy aids in choosing the right coverages and proper limits and deductibles. The terms used in a policy can be difficult to understand and coverage can change by endorsement.
Liability coverage – This protects you from damages or injuries you inflict on people or other property by causing an accident. This coverage protects you against other people’s claims. Liability doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. As an example, you may have liability limits of 25/50/25 which means a limit of $25,000 per injured person, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property. Another option is one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which provides one coverage limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability coverage protects against things such as medical services, pain and suffering, emergency aid and funeral expenses. How much liability should you purchase? That is up to you, but consider buying as high a limit as you can afford.
Medical expense insurance – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage provide coverage for immediate expenses for X-ray expenses, hospital visits and rehabilitation expenses. They are used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if you lack health insurance entirely. They cover both the driver and occupants and will also cover if you are hit as a while walking down the street. PIP is only offered in select states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers – Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle when the “other guys” do not carry enough liability coverage. This coverage pays for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Because many people only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their limits can quickly be used up. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Most of the time these coverages are similar to your liability insurance amounts.
Comprehensive (Other than Collision) – Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first must pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive can pay for things like fire damage, a tree branch falling on your vehicle and damage from getting keyed. The maximum amount you’ll receive from a claim is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Collision – Collision insurance covers damage to your Titan resulting from colliding with an object or car. You will need to pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision coverage protects against things like hitting a mailbox, colliding with another moving vehicle and colliding with a tree. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider removing coverage from older vehicles. It’s also possible to choose a higher deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Be Smart and Buy Smart
Low-cost 2012 Nissan Titan insurance is available from both online companies as well as from independent agents, and you need to price shop both to have the best rate selection. Some insurance companies do not offer the ability to get a quote online and usually these regional insurance providers prefer to sell through independent agents.
When shopping online for car insurance, it’s a bad idea to sacrifice coverage to reduce premiums. There are a lot of situations where an insured cut liability coverage limits only to regret at claim time that the small savings ended up costing them much more. Your goal should be to find the BEST coverage at a price you can afford, but do not sacrifice coverage to save money.
Consumers change insurance companies for any number of reasons including high rates after DUI convictions, policy cancellation, unfair underwriting practices or even delays in responding to claim requests. Regardless of your reason, choosing a new insurance company is actually quite simple.
