Trying to find cheaper insurance can seem to be kind of frustrating for people new to online insurance quotes. With so many insurers available, it can be a difficult situation to find the best price.
Compare quotes for auto insurance
There are several ways to shop for auto insurance, but there is one way that is more efficient than others. You can waste a lot of time driving to local insurance agents in your area, or you can utilize online quotes to quickly compare rates.
Most of the larger companies participate in an industry program that enables customers to enter their policy data once, and at least one company returns a rated price based on the submitted data. This prevents consumers from doing repetitive form submissions for each company. To access this free quoting program, click here to open in new window.
The one downside to getting quotes like this is you don’t know exactly which insurance companies you want to price. So if you prefer to choose from a list of companies to compare, we put together a list of companies who write auto insurance in your area. Click here for list of insurance companies.
It’s up to you which method you use, but try to use identical coverages for each quote you get. If each company quotes unequal deductibles or liability limits it will be next to impossible to determine which rate is truly the best. Just a small difference in coverage limits may result in a large different in cost. Just keep in mind that obtaining a wide range of quotes will improve the odds of getting a better price.

More discounts mean affordable premiums
Companies don’t list all their discounts in a way that’s easy to find, so we took the time to find some of the more common and the harder-to-find discounts that you can inquire about if you buy car insurance online. If you do not check that you are getting every discount available, you may be paying too high a price.
- Multiple Vehicles – Buying coverage for all your vehicles on one policy can get a discount on all vehicles.
- Mature Driver Discount – Drivers over the age of 55 can possibly qualify for lower premium rates for Trans Sport coverage.
- Government Employees – Federal government employees may reduce rates when you quote car insurance for Trans Sport coverage but check with your company.
- Theft Deterent System – Vehicles with anti-theft systems are stolen less frequently and that can save you a little bit as well.
- Seat Belt Usage – Drivers who always wear seat belts and also require passengers to buckle their seat belts can save up to 15% on medical payment and PIP coverage.
As a sidenote, most discounts do not apply to the entire policy premium. Some only reduce specific coverage prices like comp or med pay. If you do the math and it seems like having all the discounts means you get insurance for free, you’re out of luck. Any amount of discount will reduce the cost of coverage.
A few companies that may have these money-saving discounts include:
It’s a good idea to ask each insurance company which discounts you may be entitled to. Some discounts may not apply to policyholders in your area. If you would like to view providers that can offer you the previously mentioned discounts, click this link.
It’s not one size fits all
When buying adequate coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is not a one size fits all plan. Every situation is different.
For example, these questions may help highlight if your insurance needs would benefit from professional advice.
- What is covered by UM/UIM coverage?
- Should I put collision coverage on all my vehicles?
- Which companies will insure high-risk drivers?
- Is borrowed equipment or tools covered if stolen or damaged?
- Do I need roadside assistance coverage?
- Are my friends covered when driving my 1994 Pontiac Trans Sport?
- Should I rate my 1994 Pontiac Trans Sport as pleasure use or commute?
- When should I buy a commercial auto policy?
- What is the difference between comprehensive and collision coverage?
- Should I file a claim if it’s only slightly more than my deductible?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions but one or more may apply to you, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form.
Car insurance coverages for a Pontiac Trans Sport
Knowing the specifics of your car insurance policy can be of help when determining appropriate coverage and the correct deductibles and limits. Policy terminology can be ambiguous and reading a policy is terribly boring.
Collision coverage protection
This covers damage to your Trans Sport resulting from colliding with another car or object. You first must pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision coverage pays for claims such as rolling your car, colliding with another moving vehicle, driving through your garage door, damaging your car on a curb and sideswiping another vehicle. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider dropping it from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to increase the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Liability car insurance
Liability coverage protects you from damages or injuries you inflict on a person or their property that is your fault. It protects you from legal claims by others, and does not provide coverage for your injuries or vehicle damage.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You commonly see liability limits of 50/100/50 that translate to a $50,000 limit per person for injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $100,000, and a limit of $50,000 paid for damaged property.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as structural damage, loss of income and repair costs for stationary objects. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but consider buying as high a limit as you can afford.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage
Your UM/UIM coverage provides protection from other motorists when they are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. It can pay for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your Pontiac Trans Sport.
Due to the fact that many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a good idea.
Comprehensive coverage
Comprehensive insurance pays for damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You need to pay your deductible first and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for claims like damage from getting keyed, theft, hitting a deer and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The most a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the market value of your vehicle, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Medical payments coverage and PIP
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage pay for expenses for pain medications, chiropractic care, hospital visits, X-ray expenses and surgery. The coverages can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you are not covered by health insurance. Medical payments and PIP cover both the driver and occupants in addition to any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not universally available and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
