Want better auto insurance rates for your Subaru Outback? Finding lower-cost auto insurance on the internet is somewhat difficult for people that are not comfortable with quoting and comparison shopping online. With so many insurance agents and insurers to choose from, how can you have a chance to compare every auto insurance company to find the cheapest available price?
Find discounts to get cheap insurance coverage rates
Auto insurance companies don’t always advertise every disount available in an easy-to-find place, so we took the time to find both well-publicized and the more hidden credits that you can use to lower your rates.
- Smart Student Discounts – Performing well in school can save 20 to 25%. This discount can apply up to age 25.
- Data Collection Discounts – People who choose to allow companies to monitor their driving habits by using a telematics device in their vehicle like Allstate’s Drivewise could see a rate decrease as long as the data is positive.
- Discounts for Responsible Drivers – Insureds without accidents can save up to 40% or more on their car insurance quote on Outback insurance than drivers with accident claims.
- Paperless Signup – A few larger online companies will give you a small discount for completing your application over the internet.
- Distant College Student Discount – Older children who are enrolled in a college that is more than 100 miles from home and won’t have access to an insured vehicle can receive lower rates.
Just know that most of the big mark downs will not be given to your bottom line cost. Some only reduce individual premiums such as comp or med pay. Even though it appears it’s possible to get free car insurance, nobody gets a free ride.
A few popular companies and some of the premium reductions they offer are included below.
- Progressive policyholders can earn discounts including homeowner, continuous coverage, online signing, good student, multi-vehicle, multi-policy, and online quote discount.
- AAA offers discounts including education and occupation, AAA membership discount, pay-in-full, multi-car, good student, anti-theft, and multi-policy.
- Farmers Insurance discounts include distant student, switch companies, alternative fuel, youthful driver, and electronic funds transfer.
- Geico includes discounts for good student, air bags, anti-theft, anti-lock brakes, emergency military deployment, five-year accident-free, and seat belt use.
- Esurance offers premium reductions for online shopper, emergency road assistance, paid-in-full, anti-lock brakes, good student, and safety device.
- SAFECO has discounts for multi-car, accident prevention training, homeowner, anti-lock brakes, and anti-theft.
- State Farm has savings for good student, Steer Clear safe driver discount, anti-theft, safe vehicle, good driver, passive restraint, and multiple policy.
If you want cheaper car insurance quotes, ask each company what discounts are available to you. Some discounts might not be offered everywhere. If you would like to choose from a list of insurance coverage companies who offer discounts, click this link.

Tailor your car insurance coverage to you
When it comes to buying the right insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is not a cookie cutter policy. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s.
For example, these questions could help you determine if you might need professional guidance.
- What is covered by UM/UIM coverage?
- Do I have any recourse if my insurance company denies a claim?
- Am I covered if I hit my neighbor’s mailbox?
- Is my dog or cat covered if injured in an accident?
- I don’t drive much so do I pay less?
- Does my medical payments coverage pay my health insurance deductible?
If you can’t answer these questions but a few of them apply, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, complete this form.
Auto insurance savings promises
Companies like Allstate, Geico and Progressive constantly bombard you with ads on TV and radio. They all seem to have a common claim that you can save if you switch your coverage. How can each company save you money? It’s all in the words they use.
Companies give the cheapest rates for the type of insured that earns them the highest profit. One example of a desirable insured might have to be over the age of 35, carries full coverage, and insures a new vehicle. Any new insured that hits that “sweet spot” will get the preferred premium rates and is almost guaranteed to save when switching.
Potential insureds who are not a match for those criteria will be charged higher premium rates and this can result in the customer buying from a different company. If you listen closely, the ads state “drivers that switch” not “everyone who quotes” save that much. This is how companies can state the savings. Different companies use different criteria so you really need to compare quotes as often as possible. It’s not possible to predict with any certainty which company will give you lower rates than your current company.
Coverages available on your policy
Learning about specific coverages of a car insurance policy can be of help when determining appropriate coverage for your vehicles. The coverage terms in a policy can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring.
Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance – Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle when the “other guys” are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered losses include hospital bills for your injuries as well as damage to your Subaru Outback.
Because many people only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their limits can quickly be used up. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage should not be overlooked.
Liability insurance – Liability insurance protects you from damages or injuries you inflict on other’s property or people in an accident. It protects you against other people’s claims. It does not cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. You commonly see liability limits of 100/300/100 which stand for a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a limit of $100,000 paid for damaged property.
Liability coverage protects against things such as medical services, pain and suffering, bail bonds, loss of income and emergency aid. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is up to you, but buy higher limits if possible.
Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision) – Comprehensive insurance coverage pays for damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You first have to pay a deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive coverage pays for things such as falling objects, theft and a tree branch falling on your vehicle. The most you’ll receive from a claim is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Insurance for medical payments – Med pay and PIP coverage reimburse you for short-term medical expenses such as funeral costs, X-ray expenses and nursing services. They can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if you do not have health coverage. It covers you and your occupants and also covers if you are hit as a while walking down the street. PIP coverage is only offered in select states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Collision coverages – Collision coverage covers damage to your Outback from colliding with an object or car. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage pays for things such as sideswiping another vehicle, hitting a parking meter and crashing into a building. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. Another option is to bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
