Searching for lower auto insurance rates for your Toyota Tundra? Are you regretting buying high-priced auto insurance? Believe me when I say you’re not alone.
There is such a variety of insurance companies to buy insurance from, and although it’s a good thing to be able to choose, so many choices can make it hard to compare rates.
You should make it a habit to shop coverage around periodically because auto insurance prices change quite often. Just because you found the lowest rates on Tundra insurance six months ago you can probably find a better premium rate now. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about auto insurance because you’re about to learn the easiest way to get good coverage at a lower rate.
Cheapest car insurance rate quotes
There are multiple methods you can shop for car insurance but some are more efficient than others. You could waste time talking about coverages with agents in your area, or you could save time and use the internet for quick rates.
Many of the larger companies belong to a marketplace where prospective buyers enter their policy data once, and each company provides a quote determined by their information. This eliminates the need for quote forms for each company you want a rate for. To access this free quoting program, click here (opens in new window).
The one downside to pricing coverage this way is you can’t choose which companies to receive prices from. If you would rather choose specific providers to compare prices, we put together a list of the cheapest car insurance companies in your area. Click here to view list.
You can use whichever method you prefer to find lower rates, just ensure you are comparing the same deductibles and coverage limits for every quote you compare. If you have mixed coverages it will be very difficult to make a fair comparison for your Toyota Tundra. Quoting even small variations in limits could throw off the whole comparison. Keep in mind that comparing all the rates in your area provides better odds of finding lower pricing.

Drivers save money with these discounts
Companies that sell car insurance don’t necessarily list every disount available very clearly, so here is a list a few of the more well known and the harder-to-find credits available to you.
- Senior Citizen Discount – Seniors may qualify for a slight reduction on a insurance coverage quote on Tundra insurance.
- Waiver for an Accident – This one isn’t a discount, but some companies like State Farm and Progressive will allow you to have one accident before your rates go up so long as you are claim-free before the accident.
- Payment Discounts – By making one initial payment rather than paying in monthly installments you may have a lower total premium amount.
- Professional Memberships – Having an affiliation with a civic or occupational organization could qualify you for a break on car insurance.
- Military Deployment Discount – Being on active duty in the military may qualify for rate reductions.
- Fewer Miles Equal More Savings – Fewer annual miles on your Toyota could qualify for lower car insurancerates on the low mileage vehicles.
A little note about advertised discounts, some of the credits will not apply to the overall cost of the policy. Some only apply to individual premiums such as liability, collision or medical payments. Even though the math looks like all the discounts add up to a free policy, nobody gets a free ride.
Insurance companies who may offer most of the discounts above include:
When quoting, ask each company or agent how many discounts you can get. A few discounts may not be available in every state.
Special considerations
When choosing proper insurance coverage, there is no “perfect” insurance plan. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s and your policy should reflect that. Here are some questions about coverages that might point out if you will benefit from professional help.
- Is my camper covered by my car insurance policy?
- Can I drive in Mexico and have coverage?
- Is my Toyota Tundra covered if I use it for business?
- When should I remove comp and collision on my 2009 Toyota Tundra?
- What is roadside assistance coverage?
- How can I get my company to pay me more for my totalled car?
- Can my babysitter drive my car?
- Is my 2009 Toyota Tundra covered for smoke damage?
- Am I covered by my spouse’s policy after a separation?
- Will I lose any money if I cancel my policy before it expires?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, fill out this quick form or go to this page to view a list of companies.
Insurance policy specifics
Having a good grasp of your insurance policy can be of help when determining the best coverages and the correct deductibles and limits. The terms used in a policy can be confusing and coverage can change by endorsement. Below you’ll find the normal coverages found on the average insurance policy.
Collision – Collision insurance pays for damage to your Tundra from colliding with another car or object. A deductible applies then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision can pay for claims such as sideswiping another vehicle, colliding with a tree and crashing into a building. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. You can also bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Comprehensive auto coverage – This coverage pays for damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. A deductible will apply then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive coverage pays for claims like damage from getting keyed, a broken windshield, damage from a tornado or hurricane and hitting a bird. The most you’ll receive from a claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
UM/UIM (Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist) coverage – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection from other drivers when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. It can pay for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and also any damage incurred to your Toyota Tundra.
Due to the fact that many drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, their limits can quickly be used up. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a good idea. Usually these coverages are similar to your liability insurance amounts.
Auto liability insurance – This coverage protects you from injuries or damage you cause to people or other property that is your fault. It protects YOU against claims from other people. Liability doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have limits of 25/50/25 that means you have $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, $50,000 for the entire accident, and $25,000 of coverage for damaged propery. Some companies may use a combined limit that pays claims from the same limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability coverage pays for claims such as medical expenses, repair costs for stationary objects, structural damage, attorney fees and emergency aid. How much coverage you buy is a decision to put some thought into, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as large an amount as possible.
Medical payments and PIP coverage – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP reimburse you for immediate expenses for things like pain medications, chiropractic care and nursing services. They are often utilized in addition to your health insurance plan or if there is no health insurance coverage. It covers you and your occupants as well as getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not an option in every state and may carry a deductible
