Are you burned out from sacrificing other expenses to make your insurance coverage payment? You’re in the same situation as most other drivers.
Many insurance companies compete for your business, and because of this it can be hard to compare car insurance companies and uncover the absolute lowest rate possible.
You need to get comparison quotes at least once a year because insurance prices are variable and change quite frequently. Even if you think you had the best price for Corolla coverage a year ago the chances are good that you can find a lower rate quote today. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about insurance coverage because you’re about to find out how to use the internet to find the best coverage while lowering your premiums.
Discount auto insurance quotes
Insuring your vehicles can cost a lot, but there are discounts available to cut the cost considerably. A few discounts will be applied at the time of quoting, but a few need to be requested specifically prior to receiving the credit.
- Safety Course Discount – Taking a safe driver course can save you 5% or more depending on where you live.
- Discount for Passive Restraints – Factory air bags or motorized seat belts can get savings of up to 25% or more.
- Low Mileage – Low mileage vehicles can earn slightly better auto insurancerates than normal.
- Homeowners Discount – Simply owning a home may trigger a policy discount on auto insurance since home ownership requires personal responsibility.
- Memberships – Joining a civic or occupational organization could qualify you for a break when shopping for auto insurance.
- Paper-free Discount – Some of the larger companies will provide an incentive for buying your policy online.
- Discounts for Multiple Vehicles – Purchasing coverage when you have all your vehicles on a single policy may reduce the rate for each vehicle.
- Early Signing – A few companies give discounts for switching to them before your current coverage expires. It could save around 10% when you buy car insurance online.
As a footnote on discounts, some credits don’t apply to the overall cost of the policy. Some only apply to specific coverage prices like comprehensive or collision. So when it seems like adding up those discounts means a free policy, companies don’t profit that way.
A list of companies and their possible discounts are:
- State Farm policyholders can earn discounts including accident-free, Steer Clear safe driver discount, driver’s education, passive restraint, student away at school, and Drive Safe & Save.
- Geico offers discounts for anti-lock brakes, defensive driver, driver training, seat belt use, and membership and employees.
- Progressive has savings for online signing, multi-policy, online quote discount, good student, and continuous coverage.
- 21st Century offers discounts including theft prevention, teen driver, anti-lock brakes, good student, homeowners, and early bird.
- American Family may have discounts that include defensive driver, mySafetyValet, early bird, accident-free, good driver, and multi-vehicle.
- The Hartford offers premium reductions for good student, air bag, bundle, defensive driver, anti-theft, driver training, and vehicle fuel type.
- AAA discounts include good driver, anti-theft, multi-policy, education and occupation, multi-car, good student, and pay-in-full.
Check with every prospective company the best way to save money. Some credits may not apply to policies in your area.

Buy insurance online
There are a variety of methods to compare insurance prices but one way is less labor-intensive and much quicker. You can waste a few hours (or days) discussing policy coverages with insurance agencies in your area, or you could use online quoting to quickly compare rates.
Many companies belong to an insurance system where insurance shoppers only type in their quote data once, and each company returns a competitive quote based on that data. This saves time by eliminating quotation requests to every company.
To participate in this free quote system, click here to start a free quote.
The only downside to using this type of form is you are unable to specify which companies you will receive quotes from. So if you prefer to pick specific insurance companies for rate comparison, we have a page of companies who write insurance in your area. Click here to view list.
However you get your quotes, make sure you are using exactly the same information for each comparison quote. If you enter different limits and deductibles on each one you can’t possibly determine which rate is truly the best. Just a small difference in coverages can mean a large discrepancy in price. And when price shopping your coverage, comparing a large number of companies helps locate the best rates. Not every company does rate quotes online, so it’s necessary to compare rates on coverage from those companies, too.
Why you might pay lower rates
When buying auto insurance it’s important to understand the different types of things that play a part in calculating your policy premiums. When you understand what determines base rates, this allows you to make educated decisions that could help you find better auto insurance rates.
- The more you drive the more you pay – Driving a lot of miles in a year’s time the more you will pay for auto insurance. Most companies charge to insure your cars based upon how much you drive. Autos left parked in the garage can get a lower rate than vehicles that have high annual mileage. It’s a good idea to make sure your auto insurance declarations sheet reflects annual mileage, because improper ratings can cost you money. An improperly rated Corolla can result in significantly higher rates.
- Improve your credit score and save – Having a bad credit score will be a significant factor in determining premium rates. If your credit score is low, you could save money insuring your 2001 Toyota Corolla if you clean up your credit. Insureds with very good credit scores tend to file fewer claims than drivers with lower ratings.
- Cautious drivers pay less – Your driving record impacts your car insurance rates tremendously. Even one speeding ticket or other violation can boost insurance rates by twenty percent. Good drivers get better rates than people who have multiple driving citations. Drivers with flagrant tickets such as DUI or willful reckless driving may be required to prove financial responsibility with the DMV in their state in order to legally drive.
- Save money with higher physical damage deductibles – Insurance for physical damage, termed comprehensive and collision coverage on your policy, helps pay for damage to your vehicle. Some examples of covered claims could be collision with another vehicle, collision with an animal, and damage from a fallen tree branch. Comp and collision deductibles tell how much you are required to spend out-of-pocket before your auto insurance pays a claim. The more money the insured is willing to pay, the better rate you will receive for Corolla coverage.
Tailor your car insurance coverage to you
When it comes to choosing proper insurance coverage, there is no cookie cutter policy. Every situation is different so your insurance needs to address that. For instance, these questions could help you determine if your situation might need an agent’s assistance.
- I have a DUI can I still get coverage?
- Should I have a commercial auto policy?
- Can I afford to pay high deductible claims out of pocket?
- When can my company non-renew my policy?
- Is my 2001 Toyota Corolla covered for smoke damage?
- What if I don’t agree with a claim settlement offer?
- Does my insurance cover a custom paint job?
- What happens if I owe more than my 2001 Toyota Corolla is worth?
- Am I covered when delivering products for my home-based business?
If it’s difficult to answer those questions, then you may want to think about talking to an insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, fill out this quick form or go to this page to view a list of companies.

Do you really save 40% when you switch?
Respected companies like Geico, State Farm and Progressive consistently run television and radio advertisements. All the ads seem to make the promise of big savings if you get a free car insurance quote and switch to their company. How is it plausible that every one can have lower policy pricing? It’s all in the wording.
Insurance companies have an ideal profile for the driver that earns them the most money. One example of a preferred risk might have to be over the age of 50, has no driving citations, and has excellent credit. Any person who fits those characteristics will most likely get cheap prices and as a result will probably save a lot of money.
Drivers who fall short of those standards must pay higher premium rates which translates to business going elsewhere. The ads state “people that switch” but not “all drivers who get quotes” save that much money. That’s why companies can make the claims of big savings.
That is why you absolutely need to get price quotes at each policy renewal. It’s just not possible to know which company will provide you with the cheapest rates.
Information about specific coverages
Learning about specific coverages of a car insurance policy can help you determine which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. Policy terminology can be impossible to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring. These are typical coverages offered by car insurance companies.
Medical expense coverage – Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance pay for immediate expenses such as hospital visits, surgery, doctor visits, EMT expenses and pain medications. The coverages can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. They cover all vehicle occupants in addition to being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP coverage is not an option in every state but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Collision coverages – This coverage covers damage to your Corolla resulting from colliding with an object or car. You have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision insurance covers claims like crashing into a building, driving through your garage door, scraping a guard rail, sustaining damage from a pot hole and backing into a parked car. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to raise the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Uninsured or underinsured coverage – This coverage gives you protection when other motorists do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered claims include medical payments for you and your occupants and damage to your 2001 Toyota Corolla.
Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Normally the UM/UIM limits are set the same as your liablity limits.
Auto liability insurance – This coverage can cover damage or injury you incur to other people or property in an accident. This coverage protects you against claims from other people. It does not cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. As an example, you may have liability limits of 25/50/25 which means a limit of $25,000 per injured person, a limit of $50,000 in injury protection per accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Occasionally you may see a combined limit which limits claims to one amount and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability coverage protects against things like emergency aid, medical expenses and medical services. How much liability should you purchase? That is your choice, but buy as high a limit as you can afford.
Comprehensive protection – Comprehensive insurance coverage will pay to fix damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for things like hail damage, damage from getting keyed, damage from a tornado or hurricane, hitting a bird and rock chips in glass. The maximum payout you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Never pay more for less
As you quote car insurance, don’t be tempted to sacrifice coverage to reduce premiums. There are too many instances where an insured cut comprehensive coverage or liability limits only to regret that the few dollars in savings costed them thousands. Your focus should be to buy enough coverage at a price you can afford, but do not skimp to save money.
We just showed you some good ideas how you can compare 2001 Toyota Corolla insurance rates online. The key thing to remember is the more you quote car insurance, the higher your chance of finding low cost car insurance. You may be surprised to find that the best price on car insurance is with the least-expected company. Smaller companies can often insure niche markets at a lower cost as compared to the big name companies such as State Farm and Allstate.
