Car insurance discounts help slash rates
The price of auto insurance can be rather high, but you may qualify for discounts that you may not know about. Some trigger automatically when you quote, but a few must be manually applied in order for you to get them. If you do not check that you are getting every discount you deserve, it’s possible you qualify for a lower rate.
- Student Discount for Driver Training – Teen drivers should enroll and complete driver’s education in school or through a local driver safety program.
- Telematics Data Discounts – Drivers who elect to allow companies to analyze driving patterns by using a telematics device in their vehicle such as Progressive’s Snapshot and State Farm’s In-Drive could save a few bucks if their driving habits are good.
- ABS Braking Discount – Vehicles with ABS and/or traction control are safer to drive so you can save 10 percent or more.
- Multi-car Discount – Buying coverage for multiple cars or trucks with one company can get a discount for every vehicle.
- Use Seat Belts – Forcing all vehicle occupants to fasten their seat belts can save up to 15% off PIP or medical payments premium.
- Passive Restraints and Air Bags – Vehicles equipped with air bags and/or automatic seat belt systems can get savings up to 30%.
- Government Employee Discount – Simply working for the federal government could cut as much as 10% off for Corolla insurance with select insurance companies.
- Lower Rates for Military – Having an actively deployed family member could trigger a small discount.
- Discount for Life Insurance – Select insurance carriers reward you with a discount if you purchase a life insurance policy as well.
- Professional Organizations – Having an affiliation with a professional or civic organization can get you a small discount on car insurance.
As is typical with insurance, most credits do not apply to your bottom line cost. Most cut the price of certain insurance coverages like liability, collision or medical payments. Just because you may think adding up those discounts means a free policy, it doesn’t quite work that way. Any amount of discount will lower the amount you pay for coverage.
A few companies who might offer these discounts include:

Save money with these tips
Smart consumers have a good feel for the rating factors that go into determining the level of your policy premiums. When consumers understand what impacts premium levels, this enables informed choices that could help you find much lower annual insurance costs. Multiple criteria are used when you get a price on insurance. Some are pretty understandable such as your driving record, although some other factors are more transparent like your continuous coverage or how safe your car is.
The list below includes most of the major factors used by your company to calculate premiums.
- Lower rates with continuous coverage – Having a gap between insurance policy dates can be a quick way to increase your insurance coverage rates. In addition to paying higher premiums, being ticketed for driving with no insurance will get you a fine, jail time, or a revoked license.
- Where do you drive? – The more you drive each year the higher your rate. Most companies charge to insure your cars determined by how the vehicle is used. Cars that sit idle most of the time qualify for better rates than vehicles that are driven to work every day. It’s a good idea to make sure your insurance coverage declarations sheet correctly shows the correct usage, because it can save money. An incorrectly rated Corolla may be costing you.
- Be proud to be claim-free – Car insurance companies award the lowest premiums to policyholders who are not frequent claim filers. If you are the type of insured that files lots of claims you can expect either a policy non-renewal or much higher rates. Insurance coverage is intended to be relied upon for claims that you cannot pay yourself.
- See if your company offers a multi-policy discount – Most companies afford discounts to people who consolidate policies with them such as combining an auto and homeowners policy. This can amount to ten or even up to twenty percent in some cases. Even with this discount, drivers will still want to compare other insurance prices to help ensure you have the lowest rates. You may still be able to find better rates by buying insurance from more than one company.
- What are your coverage deductibles? – Physical damage deductibles define the amount you are willing to pay out-of-pocket before your insurance coverage pays a claim. Physical damage protection, also known as collision and other-than-collision, protects your car from damage. Examples of covered claims could be collision with another vehicle, vandalism, and damage caused by road hazards. The more expense you are required to pay out-of-pocket, the less your insurance coverage will be for Corolla insurance.
- Women tend to be lower risk – Over the last 50 years, statistics have shown that females take fewer risks when driving. The data does not necessarily mean that women are better drivers. Males and females cause auto accidents at a similar rate, but the males tend to have higher claims. Not only that, but men also receive more major tickets like driving under the influence (DUI). Teenage male drivers cause the most accidents and therefore pay the highest rates.
- Only buy what you need – Policies have optional add-on coverages that can waste your money if you aren’t diligent. Things like vanishing deductibles, towing coverage, and extra equipment coverage could be just wasting money. These may sound like a good investment when you first buy your policy, but if you don’t need them remove them from your policy.
Which is the best auto insurance?
When it comes to buying the best auto insurance coverage, there isn’t really a “perfect” insurance plan. Everyone’s situation is unique so this has to be addressed. For instance, these questions might point out if your insurance needs could use an agent’s help.
- Is my teenager covered with friends in the car?
- Why am I required to buy liability insurance?
- What is the minimum liability in my state?
- Do all my vehicles need collision coverage?
- Am I insured when driving a different vehicle?
- If my pet gets injured in an accident are they covered?
- What is an SR-22 filing?
- Is my nanny covered when driving my vehicle?
If you’re not sure about those questions, then you may want to think about talking to an agent. It’s fast, doesn’t cost anything and can help protect your family.

Coverage specifics
Learning about specific coverages of car insurance helps when choosing the right coverages for your vehicles. Car insurance terms can be impossible to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring. These are typical coverages available from car insurance companies.
Comprehensive protection
This covers damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first must pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against things like hitting a bird, damage from a tornado or hurricane, hitting a deer and hail damage. The maximum amount a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the market value of your vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Liability auto insurance
This provides protection from damages or injuries you inflict on people or other property in an accident. This coverage protects you from legal claims by others. It does not cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Coverage consists of three different limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. You commonly see limits of 50/100/50 that means you have a limit of $50,000 per injured person, $100,000 for the entire accident, and $50,000 of coverage for damaged propery.
Liability coverage pays for things like structural damage, funeral expenses, loss of income, repair bills for other people’s vehicles and attorney fees. How much liability should you purchase? That is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as much as you can afford.
Uninsured or underinsured coverage
Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage gives you protection when other motorists either have no liability insurance or not enough. It can pay for medical payments for you and your occupants as well as damage to your Toyota Corolla.
Because many people carry very low liability coverage limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages should not be overlooked.
Medical expense coverage
Med pay and PIP coverage provide coverage for short-term medical expenses such as doctor visits, surgery, pain medications, X-ray expenses and nursing services. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance plan or if you are not covered by health insurance. Medical payments and PIP cover you and your occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is only offered in select states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Collision coverage
Collision coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage resulting from a collision with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You will need to pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision can pay for things such as crashing into a building, crashing into a ditch, rolling your car, driving through your garage door and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from older vehicles. You can also bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Affordable insurance is out there
Some companies don’t offer rate quotes online and these smaller companies prefer to sell through independent insurance agencies. Cheaper car insurance can be bought online in addition to local insurance agencies, and you should be comparing both to have the best selection.
In this article, we covered a lot of tips how to reduce 1995 Toyota Corolla insurance auto insurance rates online. The key thing to remember is the more rate comparisons you have, the higher the chance of saving money. You may even find the biggest savings come from the least-expected company. Smaller companies may only write in your state and offer lower premium rates than the large multi-state companies such as State Farm, Geico and Nationwide.
