Searching for cheaper auto insurance rates for your Volkswagen Golf R? Nobody that owns a car anticipates paying for auto insurance, in particular when they could lower their rates if they shopped around.
Insurance companies such as Progressive, State Farm and Geico continually hit you with advertising and it is challenging if not impossible to avoid their marketing magic and effectively compare rates to find the best deal.
The quickest method we recommend to compare rates is to take advantage of the fact most larger insurance companies pay for the opportunity to give you rate quotes. The one thing you need to do is provide information including an estimate of your credit level, if a SR-22 is needed, daily mileage, and the make and model of your vehicles. That information is automatically sent to insurance companies and you receive quotes instantly.

Car insurance is unique, just like you
When it comes to buying adequate coverage, there isn’t really a “perfect” insurance plan. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s so this has to be addressed. For instance, these questions may help highlight whether your personal situation might need an agent’s assistance.
- Should I file a claim if it’s only slightly more than my deductible?
- Do I pay less if my vehicle is kept in my garage?
- Is my state a no-fault state?
- What are the best liability limits?
- Am I covered when driving on a suspended license?
- Is my trailer covered?
If you can’t answer these questions, you may need to chat with an agent. To find an agent in your area, fill out this quick form or click here for a list of car insurance companies in your area.

Insurance coverage basics
Having a good grasp of insurance can be of help when determining the best coverages and the correct deductibles and limits. Insurance terms can be confusing and coverage can change by endorsement. Below you’ll find the normal coverages offered by insurance companies.
Liability insurance
Liability insurance provides protection from injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people in an accident. It protects YOU from claims by other people, and doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. As an example, you may have policy limits of 25/50/25 which stand for $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a limit of $50,000 in injury protection per accident, and $25,000 of coverage for damaged propery. Another option is one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which limits claims to one amount rather than limiting it on a per person basis.
Liability can pay for things like repair costs for stationary objects, attorney fees and bail bonds. How much liability should you purchase? That is your choice, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as much as you can afford.
Comprehensive (Other than Collision)
This covers damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You need to pay your deductible first and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive can pay for claims such as damage from a tornado or hurricane, vandalism, a tree branch falling on your vehicle and fire damage. The highest amount you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Medical expense insurance
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage reimburse you for short-term medical expenses like dental work, prosthetic devices and chiropractic care. They are used in conjunction with a health insurance program or if you are not covered by health insurance. They cover both the driver and occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is only offered in select states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers
This protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other drivers when they do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered claims include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your Volkswagen Golf R.
Due to the fact that many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their limits can quickly be used up. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is very important. Frequently these coverages are set the same as your liablity limits.
Auto collision coverage
This covers damage to your Golf R resulting from a collision with another car or object. A deductible applies and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision can pay for things like sustaining damage from a pot hole, driving through your garage door and scraping a guard rail. This coverage can be expensive, so consider removing coverage from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
