Cheap auto insurance price quotes online
There are a variety of methods to compare auto insurance prices but some are less time-consuming than others. You could spend the better part of a day talking to insurance agencies in your area, or you can stay home and use the internet to quickly compare rates.
Most car insurance companies enroll in a system that enables customers to submit their information once, and every company can provide price quotes for coverage. This system prevents you from having to do form submissions for each company. To compare rates now click here to open in new window.
The one disadvantage to getting quotes like this is you don’t know exactly the companies to receive prices from. So if you prefer to pick individual companies to receive pricing from, we have assembled a list of companies who write auto insurance in your area. Click here to view list.
Compare rates however you want, just ensure you’re using nearly identical coverages and limits for every company. If you enter different coverage information it will be impossible to truly determine the lowest rate. Just a small difference in coverage limits can result in a big premium difference. And when comparing auto insurance rates, know that comparing more quotes helps improve the odds of finding more affordable rates. Some smaller insurers to not give online quotes, so you also need to get price quotes from those companies as well.

Earn discounts to get lower-cost car insurance rates
Some insurers don’t necessarily list every policy discount very well, so we took the time to find a few of the more common and the harder-to-find car insurance savings. If you’re not getting every credit available, you are paying more than you should be.
- Accident Forgiveness – Not really a discount, but a handful of insurance companies will turn a blind eye to one accident before hitting you with a surcharge if you have no claims for a set time period.
- Driver’s Education for Students – Teen drivers should enroll and complete driver’s education in high school.
- Early Payment Discounts – By making one initial payment instead of paying each month you may reduce your total bill.
- College Student – Youth drivers who are attending college and do not have a car may be able to be covered for less.
- Homeowners Discount – Just owning your own home can get you a discount because it requires a higher level of personal finance.
- Seat Belt Discounts – Drivers who require all occupants to use their safety belts can save a little off PIP or medical payments premium.
- Good Student – This discount can be rewarded with saving of up to 25%. Most companies allow this discount up to age 25.
- Theft Deterent Discount – Cars, trucks, and SUVs optioned with advanced anti-theft systems have a lower chance of being stolen and can earn a small discount on your policy.
- Save with More Vehicles Insured – Buying insurance for several vehicles with the same company can reduce the rates for all insured vehicles.
- Paperless Signup – Some of the larger companies may give you up to $50 simply for signing on their website.
One thing to note about discounts is that most discounts do not apply to all coverage premiums. A few only apply to the cost of specific coverages such as liability and collision coverage. So even though you would think you can get free auto insurance, it just doesn’t work that way.
A list of companies and the discounts they provide are shown below.
- The Hartford may offer discounts for bundle, anti-theft, defensive driver, air bag, and driver training.
- American Family offers discounts including multi-vehicle, mySafetyValet, air bags, early bird, and good student.
- Progressive policyholders can earn discounts including good student, online quote discount, online signing, homeowner, continuous coverage, and multi-policy.
- Travelers includes discounts for good student, hybrid/electric vehicle, multi-policy, save driver, continuous insurance, early quote, and driver training.
- Farmers Insurance has savings for business and professional, teen driver, multi-car, good student, homeowner, and mature driver.
- USAA may have discounts that include annual mileage, driver training, multi-vehicle, vehicle storage, family discount, and defensive driver.
- Liberty Mutual has discounts for good student, safety features, hybrid vehicle, newly retired, newly married, new graduate, and preferred payment discount.
Double check with all companies you are considering which discounts you may be entitled to. Savings might not apply in your area.
Informed drivers can reduce insurance rates
An important part of buying insurance is that you know some of the things that help determine your premiums. When you know what positively or negatively controls the rates you pay, this allows you to make good choices that can help you get lower auto insurance prices. Many things are considered when pricing auto insurance. Some of the criteria are obvious like an MVR report, although some other factors are less apparent such as your marital status or how safe your car is.
- Marriage is a factor – Having a wife or husband actually saves money on your policy. Marriage is viewed as being more stable financially and insurance companies reward insureds because married drivers tend to file fewer claims.
- Stress out and pay more – Did you know your career choice can influence rates? Occupational choices like fire fightersair traffic controllers and miners generally have the highest rates due to high stress levels and extremely grueling work hours. Conversely, occupations such as actors, historians and performers generally pay rates lower than average on V60 insurance.
- Where you reside is a factor – Having an address in small towns and rural areas has definite advantages when trying to find low car insurance rates. City drivers regularly have much more traffic and longer commutes to work. Less people living in that area means a lower chance of having an accident in addition to fewer liability claims.
- Younger drivers pay more – Older people are viewed as being more responsible, tend to file fewer claims , and usually have better credit.Inexperience drivers are statistically proven to be easily distracted when driving so auto insurance rates are higher.
- Males tend to take more risk – Over the last 50 years, statistics have shown that females tend to be a little less risky than males. This data doesn’t prove that women are BETTER drivers than men. Women and men tend to get into at-fault accidents at a similar rate, but males tend to have higher claims. Men also tend to receive more major tickets such as DWI and reckless driving. Youthful male drivers generally have the highest accident percentage so they pay the highest premiums.
Tailor your auto insurance coverage to you
When it comes to buying coverage, there really is not a “best” method to buy coverage. Everyone’s situation is a little different so your insurance should reflect that For instance, these questions might help in determining whether you will benefit from professional help.
- Do I really need UM/UIM coverage?
- Does coverage extend to a rental car in a foreign country?
- Am I covered if my car is in a flood?
- How many claims can I have before being cancelled?
- Does insurance cover damages from a DUI accident?
- Where can I find high-risk insurance?
- Is my dog or cat covered if injured in an accident?
- If my 2016 Volvo V60 is totaled, can I afford another vehicle?
- Is my camper covered by my car insurance policy?
If you don’t know the answers to these questions but you think they might apply to your situation, you might consider talking to a licensed insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, take a second and complete this form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area.

Do car insurance companies bend the truth?
Car insurance companies such as State Farm, Allstate and Geico endlessly run ads on TV and radio. They all seem to advertise claims about savings if you get a free insurance coverage quote and switch to their company. Is it even possible that every company can offer you a better deal? Here is how they do it.
Insurance providers have specific guidelines for the type of insured that will be a good risk. A good example of a profitable insured may be between 25 and 40, has never had a policy lapse, and has a short commute. Any driver that hits that “sweet spot” receives the best prices and therefore will pay quite a bit less when switching companies.
Drivers who do not meet the requirements will be charged higher prices with the end result being the customer not purchasing. The ads state “drivers who switch” not “all people who quote” will save that much if they switch. That’s why companies can make it sound like they have such great auto insurance rates.
Because each company has a different risk profile, drivers should do a quote comparison often. Because without a comparison, you cannot know with any certainty which company will have the best rates.
Car insurance coverage basics
Understanding the coverages of your car insurance policy helps when choosing appropriate coverage at the best deductibles and correct limits. The terms used in a policy can be difficult to understand and coverage can change by endorsement. Below you’ll find typical coverages found on the average car insurance policy.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection from other motorists when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered claims include hospital bills for your injuries as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Since a lot of drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their limits can quickly be used up. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is a good idea. Most of the time these limits are set the same as your liablity limits.
Collision coverage – This pays for damage to your V60 from colliding with an object or car. You have to pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision insurance covers claims like hitting a parking meter, crashing into a ditch and colliding with a tree. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are 8 years or older. Drivers also have the option to increase the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Comprehensive insurance – This coverage pays for damage that is not covered by collision coverage. A deductible will apply then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive coverage pays for claims such as hail damage, damage from a tornado or hurricane, a broken windshield and hitting a bird. The highest amount your car insurance company will pay is the cash value of the vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Liability auto insurance – This coverage provides protection from injuries or damage you cause to people or other property in an accident. It protects you from legal claims by others. It does not cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Liability coverage has three limits: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have limits of 100/300/100 that translate to a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a limit of $300,000 in injury protection per accident, and a limit of $100,000 paid for damaged property. Occasionally you may see a combined limit which combines the three limits into one amount without having the split limit caps.
Liability can pay for claims such as medical expenses, funeral expenses and loss of income. How much liability coverage do you need? That is up to you, but consider buying higher limits if possible.
Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – Med pay and PIP coverage provide coverage for short-term medical expenses like nursing services, rehabilitation expenses, X-ray expenses and pain medications. They are often used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. They cover not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and also covers being hit by a car walking across the street. Personal injury protection coverage is only offered in select states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
One last thing
We just covered some good ideas how you can reduce 2016 Volvo V60 insurance rates online. The most important thing to understand is the more times you quote, the better your comparison will be. Consumers may even find the best price on auto insurance is with a small mutual company. Smaller companies may cover specific market segments cheaper compared to the large companies like Allstate, Geico and Progressive.
While you’re price shopping online, never buy poor coverage just to save money. In too many instances, someone sacrificed comprehensive coverage or liability limits to discover at claim time they didn’t have enough coverage. Your goal should be to get the best coverage possible at an affordable rate, but don’t skip important coverages to save money.
